SoNA Music Director Paul Haas enjoys a distinctive career as conductor, composer and installation artist. His guest conducting engagements have included performances with Orchestra of St. Luke’s, San Antonio Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony, among others, as well as festival appearances.

Over the last decade, he has written commissions for a wide variety of iconic venues, including the Park Avenue Armory and Rubin Museum of Art in New York, Grace Cathedral in San

Dr. Cory Mixdorf Trombone

Dr. Cory Mixdorf is proud to be a part of the distinguished faculty at the University of Arkansas where he maintains a strong studio and directs the RAZORBONES, the U of A Trombone Ensemble, who was selected to perform at the 2022 International Trombone Festival. In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. Mixdorf maintains a regular schedule as a guest artist and clinician on the national and international levels. Along with frequent solo recital tours, his most recent endeavors include: performing a full recital at the 2023 International Trombone Festival, touring with the Blue Ridge Trombone Quartet, recurring performances at the American Trombone Workshop, touring Germany and recording an album with the brass ensemble, Eurobrass, and recording his award-winning solo album “Songs and Elegies,” which is available on all streaming audio services.

Dr. Mixdorf holds positions with two other regional orchestras in addition to the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas - the Fort Smith Symphony and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra.

Francisco, the Anchorage Museum of Art in Alaska and the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

In addition to his position as Music Director of SoNA, Haas is the founder and Artistic Director of Sympho, a trailblazing concert production company that creates powerful and emotional musical experiences, collaborating with leading artists and using unexpected performance methods and unorthodox venues.

He has served as Acting Principal Trombone of the Tulsa Symphony and Acting Second Trombonist with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the New World Symphony, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic among others. Before his appointment at the University of Arkansas, Dr. Mixdorf served as Assistant Professor of Trombone at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa as well as Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in trombone performance and pedagogy from Indiana University. His principal teachers include Peter Ellefson, M. Dee Stewart, Nancy Vogt, D. Paul Pollard, Bruce Tychinski and Brad Edwards. Dr. Mixdorf is a Greenhoe Performing Artist.

When not playing trombone, Dr. Mixdorf spends every minute possible with his beloved wife Elizabeth and children, Miles, Madelyn, Mason, Meyer, and Montgomery.

Overture Society

Gifts of any size to the Overture Society provide general operating support for concerts, education programs, community outreach, and administrative expenses.

Chair Sponsorships

Chair Sponsorships support the musicians in the orchestra and help SoNA attract and retain the best talent in the region. A gift of $2,500 will support a Principal musician for a season, and a gift of $1,000 will support a section musician.

Members of the Maestro’s Circle are donors who have committed to multi-year gifts of $5,000 or more annually. Contributions to the Maestro’s Circle help support the financial stability and long-term growth of SoNA.
