BRIEF : To select a public place of heritage importance and suggest how a design intervention can help encourage public interactionand conversations , celebrating the 75 years of independence.
Our design for a public space in the Old city of Ahmedabad draws insipration and aims to celebrate the city and it’s heritage.
The design is centred around 3 Fibreglass panels celebrating the culture of Ahmedabad, 75 years to India’s Independence and the people. These panels are flanked by streams of water in the sandstone slab, these streams of water celebrate other important heritage sites of Gujarat and create a cool and calming sensation for user experience. A cool flame runs along the slit of the Sabarmati river, creating cold winds and a comfortable micro climate.
The panels and water help create an ever changing light and mood around the space creating oppurtunities for interaction. The built form does not dictate function, rather creates an open yet comfortable space for chance and planned encounters alike.
3 PANELS CELEBRATING -
1. THE CITY OF AHMEDABAD
Its history, culture, heritage and art.
2. THE PEOPLE
By creating cutouts in the panel, people are allowed to interact with it and it liveliness and excitement. It celebrates the people around the exhibit
3. 75 YEARS TO INDIA’S INDEPENDENCE
The last panel celebrates India’s independence by reflecting indian culture and values in motifs and patterns, educating and enlighting people.

BRIEF : To study and access the impact zone, and through this defining each end user type to re-eshtablish the significance of the impact zone and its existance.

The project mainly focuses around preserving the heritage of the heritage city, bringing back the essanece. The precinct is a thriving commercial spine with busting marketplaces.
The aim of our project was to find a fair and just solution to the issues of encroachment and delapitation of the monuments lost in the urban fabric of the city.
Preserving the structures while maintaing the culture and providing appropriate spaces for those re - allocated , all while trying to minimize the former.
Our design intervention makes use of the now ‘DEAD’ Stock Exchange building anf the spaces that are left abandoned.
The increasing encroachment , not only restricts vehicular movement but also puts other activities at a stake.
The plaza is proposed in a place that is mismanaged and used to unethically park two wheeler vehicles.
The proposed space allows public interaction and creates awareness about the significance of green spaces in the city.
The chosen site lies around one single axis, on which stands the JAMA MASJID , RAJA NO HAJIRO and RANI NO HAJIRO.
From the time of setting up of fish markets to the MANEK CHOWK market , the places get lively by the hour.
With this design proposal , we aim to create a green lung in the city , with minimum built intervention , creating a public plaza which becomes a place of rest in the hustle of the city during the day and an extension of the food markets of Manek Chowk in the night.
Maximum public impact with minimum built structures to conserve the heritage and architecture of the old city.
The old city faces an acute shortage of greenspace , this plaza aims to create the same along the busy street and serve a refreshing haven for all.
The plaza follows the direction of the two natural existing trees and eventually allowing the design to follow its natural course.
This represents an organic form of style , incorporating all the existing natural elements.
The primary site encapsulates RANI NO HAJIRO and THE OLD STOCK EXCHANGE BUILDING of Ahmedabad , which further expands into the RAJA NO HAJIRO and the JAMA MASJID.
