For Bora Aksu’s Autumn/Winter 2018 collection, the inspiration came from the tale of Margaret Ann Bulkley – a young woman who went against the grain of Georgian society to become one of the most respected surgeons of her time. As a champion for proper medical care for the lower classes, she did so by disguising herself as a man. This metamorphosis provided the creative inspiration to the latest collection which contrasts opulence with simplicity, hard and soft textures, and layered gowns with traditional tailoring. While the collection showcased feminine touches of light pastels of lilacs, blues and powder pinks with silk tulles and pleated organzas, it was effortlessly layered with masculine elements of cashmere wool, heavy velvets and boyish looks. In the end, the collection once again showcased Aksu’s signature style of feminine grace and fluidity with the masculine.
