The text appearing in a book, newspaper, or other printed publication, especially with reference to its size, form, or style. An indentation or mark made on a surface or soft substance. Write clearly without joining the letters together.

PLANNING

Planning is an important part of any process. Its ideal that you plan before executing a piece of design because you need to know how its going to turn out.

Make lots of lists and keep your self organized printing isn’t just a process every idea has a thought process.

Make thumbnails sketch out a million ideas chances are you might like one of them!

When Creating your artwork make sure you save your Files at 300ppi you can select this option from starting a new document in most programmes. Its usually default but always double check because you want your artwork to always print at the highest standard.

COLOUR When beginning to print you need to make sure you prepare your document successfully if its going to be digitally printed or you are just printing art work to expose you need to make sure you have used the right colour mode. Colour modes determine how an image will be represented on screen or in print. There are two kinds of colour modes the first is..... Cmyk which stands for cyan magenta yellow and key. Key actually stands for the colour black. It is always best to create your document ensure that you

have a better idea of how your colors are going to print.RGB is the colour mode used for screen based images. It is made up of red , green and blue and is known as the additive colour mode because when red green and blue are added together it will produce white. Spot Colour is a colour outside of the CMYK colour mode you need only use this option if you need a very specific colour. You would use a spot colour if you were creating something like a business card.

GRIDS In graphic design a grid is a structure usually two-dimensional made up of a series of intersecting straight vertical, horizontal, and angular or curved guide lines used to structure content. The grid serves as an armature on which a designer can organize graphic elements images, glyphs, paragraphs in a rational, easy to absorb manner. A grid can be use to organize graphic elements in relation to a page, in relation to other graphic elements on the page, or relation to other parts of the same graphic element or shape. A construction grid that helps to organize a design area. The design grid makes it easier to design clearly, consistently and with continuity. It is a system of guidelines, borders (margins), and columns into which elements are placed and to which they are aligned.

Before document layout begins following design elements should be established: Format -Type area and margins -Columns (column width, column spacing, column height) -Basic typeface and point sizes -Column spacing (number of lines in a column) -Margin types -Pagination (number of pages in the document) -Color scheme

CROPS & BLEEDS

When you create a document that will be printed, crops and bleeds are essential elements to ensure that your final document retains a professional look. This is why printers require crops and bleeds notifications to ensure a professional look to your printed document. You might have an image then bleeds right to the end of the page so you allow extra room so what ever you want to be visible doesn’t get trimmed off or lost.

Crop marks are really useful when printing because if your cutting it yourself you can see exactly where to trim so your work is accurate and all the pages are the same size. Make sure you don’t put any of your content you want visible outside the live area as you will loose it
