FOR URBAN OUTFITTERS

-If you are at Uni, Intern as much as you possibly can! It’s the only time you can work for free and have a student loan to help with the finance. -Also, interning is the best way to meet people and also takes away the scare factor of starting a design role after university. Work really hard and be nice to people along the way, you never know who you might end up working with in the future. -Don’t get disheartened if you don’t get a job straightaway – keep yourself busy with personal projects. -Meet as many people as you can in the industry. The best place to do this is at exhibitions and workshops the more people you get to know the better.

Carry on doing the work you enjoy.

Leif Podhajsky

leif podhajsky is an australian artist and Creative Director from melbourne.. Podhajsky believes.: “the concepts I explore are universal to all humans and I believe we have lost touch with a lot of these in our modern lives. We’re all secretly searching for answers to true happiness and contentment.”[

“Leif’s work explores themes of connectedness, the relevance of nature and the psychedelic or altered experience. Pursuing a symbiosis between digital techniques and organic outcomes.”

Leif creates artwork and design for a number of brands, record labels and musicians around the world such as; Nike, Sony Music, Vice, Warner Records, Warp Records, Smart Car, Atlantic, XL, 4AD, Ninja Tune, Modular Records, Foals, Tame Impala, Grimes, The Horrors, Lykke Li, Bonobo.

FIRST PAID WORK - The first piece I got paid for in graphic design was probably re-doing a medical form. It was completely boring and it was just layout and I think I got paid one-hundred dollars. I was pretty happy. I think I kept the check.

FIRST BAND I think it was actually Tame Impala. I didn’t actually plan on doing album artwork. I just started putting stuff up online that I was doing at the time and Modular contacted me out of the blue to do a pitch for their album cover. That was a lucky break. Could you see yourself doing more in the future? Maybe live action or \ stop-motion? I think so, yeah. It’s pretty fun. It’d like to try everything. I’ve done a lot of live visuals for friends’ bands.

“I try and work with artists who I respect - whose music I would want to listen to. A lot of albums that have my work on them are on solid rotation. Ideally I like to spend a lot of time with the music working out a story and concept which I can capture the whole albums feel and flow.
