EXCLUSIVE The 2016 Executive Board has been elected, with the return of some familiar faces and the addition of a few new hands to the team. On Wednesday 16 September, the society voted to return both Jayden Èvett and Miia Korpela to office for another term as President and VP for the Treasury. Likewise, Anastasia Roberts – outgoing VP Society has been returned, although this time as a

an Executive Officer, to allow her to be allocate more time to next year’s play, Mambo Italiano (more on page 5). New to the Board is student of Italian Josh Ruddock as the new VP Media and actual-Italian Alexa Zelensky as VP Administration. The addition of these two to the Board has now making our Italian to Kiwi ratio a nice 2:3! The AGM was a great review of the activities of the year, which

were discussed and society member feedback was taken so that we can provide better and more tailored events next year. The Executive has resolved to deal with a wider variety of issues and partner with a wider array of clubs and schools to make this happen.

ESECUTIVO New exec sworn in

I swear…: Alexa Zelensky is sworn into office on a copy of L’Inferno by Jayden Èvett at the 2015 AGM

Who to contact? If you’ve got any questions, here’s who to talk to:

The Society had a new, more unique tradition introduced this year with all serving Executive Officers being required to be sworn in before taking office from their predecessor. Using a copy of what is commonly considered the ‘bible of academic Italian,’ members-elect swore on Dante Alighieri’s l’Inferno to uphold cats

their office, do their best for the Society and uphold the good name of Italian at Victoria. The brief ceremony was quite amusing, with certain members of the Executive getting confused between swearing an oath and swearing in general. Nevertheless the Society is on a fantastic footing for 2016 with a strong and dedicated team

SPORT La Coppa in faculty hands

POST MATCH WITH

RORY McKENZIE

The Faculty team has walked away from the latest match in the highly contested Coppa dell’Aquila Italiana series, with a monstrous 12-6 win over the Society. There was a high turn out of spectators to this game, which was pitched to be the most ferocious of the year, and players certainly did not disappoint with a rough and tumble match seeing the Society lose control of the cup. A rough game, there were plenty of injuries, bumps and bruises over the course of the hour. The arena being much smaller than your average field meant that personal space was far and few between. One of the more spectacular falls of the match was when Faculty team member Tim Smith went head first into the western wall of the Arena, some how not managing to concuss himself. Spectators put it down to his glorious 8

MAN OF THE MATCH

Jared Dellows Society, Goal Jared’s game was strong, he was a source of constant strength for the Society throughout the whole match and really pushed through for their defence, regardless of the outcome.

Il Vittoriano: Rory, what would you put your team’s victory down to? Rory McKenzie: Marco’s leadership. His inspirational leadership really pulled everyone together (as well as providing all the players.) IV: So, in your opinion, where did the Society go wrong? RMcK: It was an inexperienced side coming up against the best Italy had to offer it was a real learning curve for the society. IV: Any comment on the post-match missing ball saga? RMcK: I was shocked when I first heard the news and it was a real dampener on our success as a team... It is difficult to know who to put the blame on. It's not like Italians to be disorganised though...
