n May, we celebrate all things strawberry, and at the Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival, you can eat the fruit of honor in more than 50 different ways, while also indulging in a pie-eating contest, strawberry bake-off, continuous entertainment on three stages, a parade and one of the largest carnivals on the East Coast. Following the festival, be sure to explore Pungo’s 16 pick-your-own farms for sustainable, local produce and farm-crafted treats to take home as a sweet souvenir. During Memorial Day weekend, the beach transforms into a beachfront bash of red, white and blue. Being home to some of the largest military bases in the country calls for a huge weekend-long salute and celebration of our Armed Forces. Hosted by the USO, the Patriotic Festival, a three-day event in June, presents live performances from national touring artists and has become one of the most popular summer festivals on the East Coast.

Standing tall at 34 ft., the majestic bronze statue of King Neptune welcomes locals and visitors alike at the gateway of Neptune Park, located on the boardwalk at 31st Street. The King’s reign over Virginia Beach is reason to celebrate the beach life annually during the Neptune Festival, a commemoration made up of more than 40 events across all three of the city’s beaches during September and October. Enjoy art from around the nation at the Neptune Art & Craft Show; sip local Virginia wines during tasting events; catch a wave; run an 8K; or see how sculptures come to life in the sand during the 10day International Sand Sculpting Championships.

S
andbridge is a relaxing and peaceful community where you can truly slow down and unwind on your vacation. Here are some of our favorite ways to live it up while we’re here.

VA C AT I O N R E N TA L S :
Sandbridge is the hub of vacation rentals and condos in Virginia Beach. From quaint beach houses to ocean-side retreats, luxury condos and everything in between, Sandbridge offers a variety of stunning beach house rentals for families of all sizes. Local rental companies have everything you need from vacation specials, pet-friendly accommodations, and premium rentals for all budgets and family sizes.
K AYA K I N G A N D S TA N D U P PA D D L E B O A R D I N G :
The unencumbered beauty of the Back Bay makes it one of our favorite places to explore by water. There is no shortage of great local outfitters offering guided kayak and paddleboard tours of both Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. While beginners are welcome on the bay, the ocean tours, launching at Little Island Park, do require experience.
CAMPING AND HIKING:
Located in southern Sandbridge, False Cape State Park is a mile-wide barrier spit between Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean offering primitive beachfront camping, where you can camp in near complete isolation right on the beach. With no public vehicle access, False Cape can only be reached by hiking, biking, small boats, or the park’s beach transport and tram services, through the neighboring Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. With 15 hiking and biking trails, varying in length and ranging from easy to difficult, there are many ways to explore one of the last remaining undeveloped areas on the east coast. We’d recommend navigating the entire 15.3 miles of trails in the park, where you will experience beaches of both an ocean and a bay, dunes, maritime forests, marshes, and wooded swamps, all in one visit.
WILDLIFE VIEWING:
With 9,108 acres, the refuge is made up of barrier islands, dunes, beach woodland, freshwater marshes, maritime forests, ponds and ocean beaches, and is situated on a thin strip of coastline between the Atlantic and Back Bay. More than 300 species call the park home, offering some of the best bird-watching opportunities on the East Coast.
FAT T I R E B I K I N G :
If you think navigating a bike down our wide, sandy beaches sounds like an impossible feat, you have to try it out on a fat tire bike, which can be rented from one of the area’s equipment outfitters. From the oceanfront to the Chesapeake Bay, there may be no better view than biking along the water’s edge and the wide tires of these bikes makes riding on the wet sand as easy as riding on pavement. Live music, street performers on Atlantic Avenue, outdoor cafes, hot dog and snow cone vendors, the popular Rudee Inlet marina area; and our famous three-mile boardwalk, perfect for rollerblading, jogging or cruising down the strip on a fat tire bike. 3 Spots You Can’t Miss at the Oceanfront The Virginia Beach Oceanfront is a hub of cool drinks, good food, and live music, all within a beach cruiser’s ride from our fresh, sandy beaches. From unique shops to unbeatable seafood, this place is a must on any Virginia Beach itinerary. Here are a few of our favorite spots to get you started.
AT L A N T I C AV E N U E
For a mix of eclectic coastal finds and great dining options, it’s hard to beat Atlantic Avenue. From classic beach staples like Sunsations, to charming local boutique clothing and gift shops, Atlantic Avenue has a little something for everyone. For a shopper’s paradise, check out local shop, True Woman, for great styles and reasonably-priced clothing in reasonable sizes and Bargain Beachwear for a huge selection of all of the beach attire you could want at a great price and finish the day with dinner at one of the endless eateries on the strip. For food and fun, you can’t go wrong with Beachside Social, featuring indoor shuffleboard, or the open-air beachside vibes of Ocean 27.
RUDEE INLET
At the south end of the Oceanfront, the Rudee Inlet is the go-to spot for fishing charters, jet skiing, parasailing and waterside dining. Head out on a charter to reel in the big one, feel the wind in your face as you glide across the water on a jet ski, and catch a seagull’s-eye-view of the Atlantic Ocean as you fly up in the air parasailing. To complete your seaside adventure in tasty fashion, enjoy seafood done right while overlooking the water at Big Sam’s Raw Bar, Rockafeller’s, or Rudee’s on the Inlet.
VIRGINIA BEACH BOARDWALK
The Virginia Beach Boardwalk, at the Oceanfront, is a 28-feet wide marvel that stretches three miles, and features a separate bike path, ideal for strolling, rollerblading and biking. Entertainment is offered nightly during the summer months and four oceanfront stages at 7th, 17th, and 24th and 31st Streets provide live musical acts. Along the boardwalk, there’s a variety of quaint outdoor restaurants and vendors offering bike and surrey rentals. Nautical sculptures adorn many of the side streets which lead to Atlantic Avenue.

Head East down Shore Drive to First Landing State Park for a morning hike through preserved marshland dotted with towering Bald Cypress Trees adorned with Spanish moss. Opt for the Bald Cypress Trail, a 1.5 mile hike through and around the cypress swamps.
3:30
p.m.
Head back across the Lesner Bridge to Tula Adventure Sports, where you can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for an afternoon spent exploring the creeks and waterways of Broad Bay, including First Landing State Park, which is only a half-mile from where you’ll launch.

A day of hiking and paddling your way through the Bay area can really build up an appetite. Mermaid Winery, the first urban winery in the state of Virginia, offers over 800 wines from around the world and a menu featuring fresh, local ingredients.

After your hike, head across the street to Fort Story Military Base to climb the steps of the historic Cape Henry Lighthouse - the first Federal Construction project approved by the new government following the Revolutionary War. The climb to the top can be a doozy, but the 360° views of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean are well worth it.
Head down to Pleasure House Road for a walk along the Chesapeake Bay at Chic’s Beach. After a busy day, you can’t beat relaxing by the water’s edge at sunset. While the sun rises over the Atlantic Ocean, the angle of the Chesapeake Bay Beach sets you up perfectly to enjoy the sun setting over the water.

Refuel with a pit stop at Commonwealth Brewing Company, who serves up their mouthwatering craft creations out of an old repurposed firehouse. With ample outdoor patio space, lawn games, and food trucks, this is a great place to spend an afternoon outside.

Close the night out by catching a show at HK on the Bay, just a couple of blocks off the water. The small, intimate setting puts you right in the middle of the action for some of the best live music around. Enjoy some local beers on tap and dance the night away to some of our favorite local bands.

Local’s Guide to Town Center
While nationally recognized brands will bring you in, Town Center is also home to many gems that can only be found locally. Do yourself a favor and check them out.
SHOPPING
With shops like Eclectic Design Florist & Gift, a must-visit for lovers of plants, there’s no shortage of shopping options at Town Center.
R E S TA U R A N T S
Start your day with a nitro brew coffee or juice and a smoothie bowl at Town Center Cold Pressed, whose locally-sourced menu is as tasty as it is good for you. With other delicious food options like Saffron Indian Bistro, Zushi Japanese Bistro, Taste Unlimited, Quirk, and Keagan’s Irish Pub, you’ll be eating good for many days to come.
DRINKS
While it may be a nationally-franchised restaurant, the brews pouring out of Gordon Biersch Restaurant Brewery are all created and brewed locally, and definitely worth a sip. While deciding which beer to try may be difficult, drinking them certainly isn’t. Twist Martini & Associates is the place to be if you’re looking to end your evening with a couple of cocktails.
DESSERTS
Candy connoisseurs can find some of our favorite local confections at The Royal Chocolate. With their melt-in-your-mouth chocolate made right there in the shop, this place is worth a visit for the aromas alone. For a delicious dessert with a decidedly French twist, Lamia’s Crepes offers tasty crepes made in the true French tradition, created on traditional crepe pans right before your eyes. After you finish your crepe, we recommend heading over to Confetti Caffe & Gelato, for a scoop of mouthwatering homemade gelato. Don’t leave Town Center without stopping by one of the newest additions, Macaron Tart. With all natural, made from scratch, French macarons and tarts, this woman-owned local bakery prepares small batches in-house to ensure that the quality is always high, and it shows in every bite.

No matter how high your handicap is, Topgolf has a variety of games that are enjoyable for any skill level. We like going early - the rounds are cheaper before noon, the crowds are smaller, and their brunch is killer. While lounging on the beach can seem like the peak of relaxation, take your R&R up a notch with some pampering at the Flowering Almond Spa, located at The Founders Inn hotel. Treat yourself right and opt for the Flowering Almond Manicure Indulgence, which comes with a relaxing hand massage with anti-aging lotion, nourishing Jojoba oil, and Vitamin E, in addition to the traditional manicure experience.
While you may have opted to spend some time away from the beaches, that doesn’t mean you have to fully avoid our coastal vibes. Themed like the traditional tiki bars of the 50s and 60s, Auntie’s mouthwatering, house-crafted classic tiki drinks, and Filipino and Hawaiian-inspired menu, will help you end your Inland day the island way.

Outside of the summer season, dogs are welcomed for a walk at any time on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, and encouraged to get a little sandy off-leash on any of our beaches. • HEAD TO A BREWERY
When you’re in need of a pint or two, our breweries are a great place to take the dogs and kick back for a day. • SPEND A DAY AT THE PARK
From state parks to dog parks, there are plenty of spots to let Fido run off some of that puppy energy. • FETCH A BITE TO EAT
You can also grab a bite at various pet-friendly patios and doggie decks around the city.

hether you’re into invigorating hikes, adventurous trails or scenic routes, Va Beach’s state parks, wildlife refuges and miles of protected beaches are sure to have you craving the great outdoors. At First Landing State Park, you can hike through seven distinct ecosystems. In fact, this registered Natural Landmark was the site of the settlers’ first landing in 1607 and has since become Virginia’s most visited state park. Walk along 1.25 miles of beachfront and stop to take in the beauty of dunes, tidal marsh and the maritime forest; or follow 19 miles of interpretive hiking, running and biking trails through protected habitats, including one of the most endangered habitat types in the world, the maritime forest community. Along each trail within the 2,888-acre park, you’ll encounter a different scene, from freshwater ponds and Spanish moss to stunning views of the Chesapeake Bay. Farther south in Sandbridge Beach, the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge provides incredible scenic hikes along several trails through dunes, woodland, marshes and ocean beaches. Given its remote location, the park has become a haven for loggerhead sea turtles, peregrine falcons and bald eagles, all of which you’ll have the opportunity to encounter as you explore the 9,108acre refuge—a local favorite! Feeling extra adventurous? Hike through the refuge to reach False Cape State Park, accessible only by foot or by boat. Featuring six miles of pristine beaches, False Cape is a wildlife watcher’s delight and a destination for more than 300 species of birds, including a snow geese population of 10,000.

golfing
W
hether you’re looking to drive, chip, putt or ride around in the golf cart holding the cooler, Virginia Beach has what you need to make sure your game stays on par. With more than 198 holes of golf from which to choose, Virginia Beach has something for every handicap, including courses and holes designed by some of the legends of the game. Here is where to find some of the best golfing in Virginia Beach. GOLF COURSES
The City of Virginia Beach offers five public golf courses, all of which are leased and privately operated and managed, including Red Wing Lake, Bow Creek, Kempsville Greens, Stumpy Lake, and Virginia Beach National. Virginia Beach National, designed by golf greats Pete Dye and Curtis Strange, is a former Tournament Players Club (TPC) course that is now available for anyone to play. Another premier venue, The Signature at West Neck, is an Arnold Palmer Signature design and offers a challenging and beautiful championship course, perfect for a day chasing the little white ball.

TOPGOLF
For those who spend more time in the hazards than on the green, swing into your day with brunch and a couple rounds of Topgolf. If you’ve never been to a Topgolf, you definitely need to give this game a try. No matter how high your handicap is, Topgolf has a variety of games that are enjoyable for any skill level. We like going early. The rounds are cheaper before noon, the crowds are smaller, and their brunch is killer. The chicken and waffle sliders and a couple of classic mimosas are enough to power us through a round or two. While you are technically outside, Topgolf is completely covered and open for business rain or shine, making it the perfect option when your usual round of 18 gets rain-checked.
MINI GOLF
If putting around is more your speed, look no further than the Oceanfront District, which has many miniature golf options that everyone in your group will enjoy. Whether you prefer to play golf among the waterfalls and palm trees of Shipwreck Golf and Pirates Paradise Mini Golf, on a safari at Jungle Golf Virginia Beach, or even test your luck in one of our blacklight indoor mini golf options, we have you covered.

BALD CYPRESS TRAIL
For a scenic hike through the enchanting cypress swamps, Bald Cypress Trail offers a 1.6-mile loop, including several boardwalks and platforms overlooking the low wetlands. This trail features an abundance of wildflowers throughout, and is ideal for all experience levels. Dogs are also able to use this trail while on a leash. The trailhead is located at the park’s trail center, accessed through the south entrance off of Shore Drive, which is the main hub for accessing the nine interpretive trails running through First Landing’s seven distinct ecosystems.
CAPE HENRY TRAIL
This six-mile trail is the longest within First Landing State Park, stretching from the park’s northern border to southernmost entrance off of Atlantic Avenue. Accessible to both hikers and bicyclists, and running parallel to Shore Drive, the Cape Henry Trail passes through an old-style beach neighborhood where salt boxes sit comfortably next to contemporary renovations. The flat trail, shaded in places by pine and live oak trees, is perfect for avid bird watchers; you’ll see osprey and egrets, and maybe even an elusive eagle. The trail heads through the park, past the beaches of the secluded narrows, and connects at the northern tip of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.
PLEASURE HOUSE POINT N AT U R A L A R E A
With over 118 acres of pristine maritime forests, marshland and beaches, the Pleasure House Point Natural Area includes three sandy trails that are a must for visiting hikers. Each soft trail can be easily completed by hikers of all skill levels in an hour or two. The natural area’s location between the Lynnhaven River and the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, make this natural sanctuary a beautiful place to spend the day.
STUMPY LAKE LOOP

Places for Sunrise & Sunset Photos
T
o see the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean and set over the Chesapeake Bay, in the same day, is an experience that is uniquely Virginia Beach. Whether you are using a camera or camera phone, you’re guaranteed to get the perfect sunrise and sunset shots at these places.
SUNRISE
A sunrise in Virginia Beach is a sight you won’t soon forget. With the world still sound asleep, the show is about to begin—and you have a front-row seat. Sandbridge Beaches Watch through the dancing sea oats on the dunes of Sandbridge, as the waking sun glistens on the morning surf. Whether you take in the daybreak on the Little Island Pier, on the beaches of the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge, or relaxing on the deck of your vacation rental, you really can’t go wrong here. King Neptune Statue For the quintessential Virginia Beach shot, we love getting King Neptune himself in the foreground with the colors of the sunrise peeking out from behind him.

Outdoor Activities
Virginia Beach Fishing Pier Like King Neptune, the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier is a local icon that makes for a great sunrise photo. Whether you actually take your shot on the pier, or you get the silhouette of the pier from further down the beach, this always makes for a great picture. Oceanfront Hotels Although you can always get a great shot by standing on the beach or boardwalk, the perspective that comes with our oceanfront hotel balconies will bring it to the next level - literally. Croatan Beach What sets Croatan Beach apart from the others is that this beach is a favorite of our local surfers, who often head out before the sun comes up waves.
SUNSET
After a busy day, you can’t beat a walk along the water’s edge at sunset. While the sun rises over the Atlantic Ocean, the angle of the Chesapeake Bay Beach sets you up perfectly to enjoy the sun setting over the water. Chic’s Beach Whether taking an evening stroll or setting up a beach chair to take in the show, this is the easiest spot to capture that unforgettable sunset shot in Virginia Beach. Chesapeake Bay Get the perfect shot of the last light of day by dropping a paddle board or kayak into the water and floating right up to it. Be sure to capture the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in the background for a classic Va Beach touch.
Rudee Inlet With the bridge in the foreground and the boats of the marina against the sunset in the background, this is one of our favorite marina sunset shots. Broad Bay At favorite local eateries like the Back Deck, Bubba’s, and Chick’s Oyster Bar, you can enjoy a sunset with a side of fresh seafood and delicious drinks while sitting out over the water in the Chesapeake Bay District. The Narrows The tapering waterway bordering First Landing State Park, known to Virginia Beach locals as The Narrows, is one of our favorite hidden spots to snap a beautiful shot over the water. ith it’s location on the southern tip of the Chesapeake Bay, our coastal community makes for a seafood-centric culinary culture, which boasts a wide array of unique restaurants and delectable fare. With the famously rich waters of the Bay, hundreds of inlets snaking through the city and miles of farmland, Virginia Beach is the place for seafood and locally harvested ingredients, and that’s only the beginning. From a growing brewery network and our legendary Lynnhaven oysters, to local chefs who are constantly pushing what it means to be farm-to-table and sea-to-table, our culinary scene is truly something to be savored.

Coastal Flavors
WE LOVE OUR SEAFOOD It’s during the fall and winter months that this seafood craze gets even fresher. December and January are the peak seasons for rockfish (striped bass), striper, black sea bass, flounder, speckled trout and blueline tilefish—all available within 50 miles! That’s not surprising though, since the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay is considered to be the largest and most biologically diverse estuary in the U.S., yielding more seafood than any of the country’s other 840 estuaries, making us – and all seafood-lovers – incredibly lucky.

n Virginia Beach, the salty brackish water is home to an amazing array of sea life; the soil is sandy and perfect for growing many edible treasures; and the beach cocktails flow like the mighty Lynnhaven River. The main hallmarks of our coastal cuisine are fresh, seasonal, and simply prepared ingredients, often sourced from our own rich farmlands. While we’re proud of the diversity of our culinary scene, sometimes you just have to play the hits.

1OYSTERS
Once coveted by the English aristocracy for its size and salinity, the famous Lynnhaven Oyster is a local legend that we can’t get enough of, no matter the season. Captain John Smith himself described the bounty of the area saying “oysters lay as thick as stones,” with the Bay and rivers containing more sturgeon “than could be devoured by dog or man.” There may not be the numbers there were in Smith’s day, but the local oyster population is on the rise and we are all the better for it. Hop aboard a Pleasure House Oysters boat tour and taste an oyster plucked straight from the water beneath you, or order them how you like them from one of our area’s many restaurants who feature our favorite bivalve. 2SHE-CRAB SOUP
She-crab soup is a staple of our coastal cuisine here in Virginia Beach. From the East Coast She-Crab Soup Classic to the numerous local restaurants that feature it on their menu, this dish is everywhere—and for good reason. When in the Sandbridge area, grab a cup at Margie & Ray’s Seafood, Crab & Raw Bar. A local’s staple since 1964, their she-crab soup has been voted the favorite in Tidewater more than once.

3SOFT SHELL CRAB
Soft shell crabs are blue crabs whose hard exterior shells have molted, and they are found in abundance in the warming waters of the Chesapeake Bay, starting in the spring. While legend has it that they begin molting after the first full moon of May, the local soft shell crab season typically starts in mid-April or early May each year, and lasts through September. Whether you enjoy them lightly fried, beneath a perfectly-poached egg, or atop a spicy bloody Mary (like on the popular Bloody Blue at Bay Local Eatery) there’s no shortage of delicious ways to sink your teeth into these mouth-watering delicacies.

4ORANGE CRUSH
What better way to cool off during the hot summer months than with a refreshing fruity spirit? Virginia Beach is known for Orange Crushes, and if you’ve visited us before, there is a good chance you’ve already tried one. With its freshlysqueezed OJ, triple sec, and Sprite there is no turning back. They’re like fries, you can’t have just one. This perfect summer drink first originated at Waterman’s Surfside Grille, but can be found on menus all throughout the city at places like Chix Seaside Grille and Bar and The Shack on 8th.

5FRESH PUNGO BERRIES
Just a few minutes outside of the windswept dunes of Sandbridge, sits 23,000 acres of farmland known to Virginia Beach locals as Pungo. A drive through this expansive agricultural community delivers a rural serenity and countryside charm that feels worlds away from the bustle of the Oceanfront. Stop along your journey at any one of the area’s roadside stands or, for a truly Pungo experience, pick your own bushel of fresh and local favorites like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

P I C K -Y O U R - O W N :
Our Pungo community is a dynamic part of our beach culture. With 16 pickyour-own farms located just a short drive from the beach, you can pick your own bushel of fresh berries, produce, or even a bouquet of wildflowers and be back at the beach by dinner.

Back Bay Brewing is a favorite hangout for locals and is a great place to spend an afternoon sampling some small-batch brews. This cozy, laid-back brewery is brought to the next level by the rustic, industrial interior by Benevolent Design Co., a local company located nearby in the ViBe Creative District. This is the place to come to be treated like a regular and just have a good time.

While you’ve probably heard of, and maybe even been to, a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant outside of Virginia Beach, don’t let that stop you from trying it here. Serving up delicious German-style draughts at Town Center, the beers here are created and brewed in-house, so they’re as unique to Virginia Beach as any of them. They even collaborate with other local and regional breweries on some of their creations. Oh, the food here is top-notch, too.
SAT. 12-11 SUN. 11-5
Deadline Brewing Project, located in the Chesapeake Bay district, is what happens when three friends in the news business (hence their name), go out for a few beers and spend the night discussing how fun it would be to open up a brewery together. With regular selections always available and new creations always in the works, it’s always a good time to drop into Deadline for a cold one.

One of our most unique breweries comes from the folks at Back Bay Brewing, and brings a beer drinking experience that you can only get in Virginia Beach. Operating out of a restored 1912 farmhouse, the aptly-named Farmhouse Brewing offers locally-sourced beers and ciders, and even select wines. With tasting rooms upstairs and downstairs, food trucks, a farmers market and an acre and a half of gardens growing figs, blueberries, hops and other beer-making ingredients, this place has it all. Outside, pets are welcome and you can enjoy bocce ball, ladder golf, and cornhole, with stunning views of the farmhouse yard and the gardens, operated by Farmer John, formally of Pungo’s New Earth Farm.
FRI. 3-12AM SAT. 11AM-12AM SUN. 11-9
Like Back Bay Brewing Co., Commonwealth is also a favorite local hangout, but for the Chic’s Beach crowd. Draining their taps out of an old renovated firehouse, this place is open and inviting, especially on nice days when they open the garage doors that lead to their outside seating. Come for the food trucks, patio space (where pets are welcome), corn hole, and friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Come back for the ever-changing selection of deliciously-creative, expertly brewed beers. You’ll want to sample as many as you can here.

FRI. 11AM-11PM SAT. 11AM-11PM SUN. CLOSED
AMENITIES
Home Republic is a restaurant and brewery located at the Oceanfront and is crafting some delicious brews. The laid back, pub-like atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect for a resortarea brewery and the beers certainly don’t disappoint. Pro tip: the crispness of their King Kolsch pairs excellently with the richness of their fried mac ‘n’ cheese with gouda cream.

The spacious tap room and 44,000 sq. ft. outdoor beer garden make this a great place to spend an evening sampling a huge assortment of locally-brewed beers. The pet-friendly outdoor space is filled with lawn games, bocce ball, fire pits and regular live music, which make for a truly enjoyable brewery experience.

This cozy brewery is a favorite for many locals with its neighborhood bar-like atmosphere and delicious rotating beers. While all of their beers are worthy of a tasting, their sours deserve special recognition. Reaver Beach, owned and operated by a husband and wife team, specializes in hop-forward ales and wild fermentation in oak, and their expertise in these areas shines through. This place is cool, creative and just all around delicious.
AMENITIES
Pleasure House Brewing is what it would be like if you had friends who had a brewery in their house - and they were masters of making great beer. This place is unassuming, cozy, and just plain fun. Their beers are constantly changing and when they’re out, they’re out. Grab a glass, choose a game from the many they offer, and enjoy a night drinking good beer with good friends.

Wasserhund is a German-inspired brew pub in the Inland Hilltop area and is a great joint to get your pizza and beer fix, both of which are can’tmisses here. Their flights are huge and very customizable, so taste as many of their house-brewed beers as you want. Also, if you leave here without trying their Jumbo Beer Pretzel, with beer cheese or German mustard, or one of their house-made pizzas, you’re doing it wrong.

When Smartmouth Brewing Company, from nearby Norfolk, announced they were opening up a second location at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, we could hardly contain our excitement, and they haven’t disappointed. Their Pilot House is an old post office that has been fully renovated into a small-batch brewery with big, bold, flavorful beers. After a day at the beach you can drop in for the refreshing Alter Ego Saison or one of their creative limited or seasonal offerings, and enjoy it in their loading-dock-turned-outdoorpatio, where pets are welcomed and food trucks are often found.

This veteran-owned, military-themed, brewery is a must visit for veterans and non-veterans alike. As if the creative and tasty brews weren’t enough reason to visit, the WWII-themed artwork for each beer, prominently displayed on the walls, makes this worth the trip in its own right. It doesn’t hurt that the staff also knows their stuff and will get you set-up with the perfect beer for your preferences every time. When in doubt, we recommend the refreshing Pineapple Grenade Hefeweizen. VisitVirginiaBeach.com

Fun
ith “Beach” in our name, long, hot days spent soaking in the sun and surf between Memorial Day and Labor Day might be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a trip to our seaside city. While our pristine beaches and abundant natural waterways make us an ideal summer destination, the fun doesn’t stop when the days grow shorter. In fact, it is in the cooler months that much of our coastal culture truly comes alive. With year-round mild temperatures, ample winter wildlife adventures, seasonal coastal cuisine, and a decidedly more “local” vibe, you can live the life in Virginia Beach year-round.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND CAMPGROUNDS The City of Virginia Beach and the Virginia Beach Hotel Association want your stay to be happy and carefree. Some properties may not be open year round, so it is best to make a reservation prior to arriving. When you make a reservation at one of our hotels or motels, a deposit secured by check, credit card or money order may be required. Reservations are confirmed upon receipt of your deposit by the hotel. Familiarize yourself with and inquire about cancellation policies, early checkouts, refunds, number of people in the room and any fees associated with lodging stay, as policies vary from one hotel to another.
CHANGES IN RESERVATIONS Accommodations may require up to seven (7) days written notice of cancellation prior to arrival date. PLEASE BE AWARE that some lodging establishments do charge an administrative fee for cancellation of accommodations. EARLY CHECKOUTS AND REFUNDS Accommodations may require up to, but no more than, 72 hours notice when a guest requests a change in a previously set departure date. Weekly, monthly and group rates are subject to the confirmation or contract.
MINIMUM STAYS Some hotels require two-, three- or four-day minimum stays for confirmed reservations, including weekends and holidays. When a refund is due, standard bookkeeping practices are observed. Refund checks are usually mailed from the hotel’s business office. Refunds are not usually made from the registration desk. CHANGES IN RATES This publication was assembled in the fall of 2019. Due to a number of factors, it is impossible to ensure that the published rates for a hotel will not change. The publisher has no control over this situation. Holiday and weekend rates may be slightly higher. Please inquire about rates when making reservations.
For further information and assistance with accommodations, contact the Virginia Beach Visitor Information Center at 1-800-VA BEACH (1-800-822-3224) or (757) 385-SURF(7873).
