The Tickled Trout Wye, Nr Ashford For more than 400 years, an Inn or Tavern has stood on the banks of the river Stour where the Tickled Trout now stands. The Pub is typical of the distinctive Kentish architecture of the period and greets the visitor with a welcoming and unique ‘olde world’ charm and the new owners strive to maintain this charm of oak beamed bars and open fires for their patrons. The well maintained gardens alongside the river Stour, provide the ideal setting for ‘Al fresco’ drinks and dining, with a superb choice from selective menus for which the pub is renowned. Fresh, local and regional. These are benchmark words when it comes to sourcing and buying ingredients for the very selective menu of homemade, traditional English and continental dishes. Seasonal choice of fresh fish caught in the seas around the Kent coastline, British reared meats, organic vegetables and fruit grown in ‘The Garden of England’, plus freshly baked bread delivered daily, are key to the continuing success of the Tickled Trout menus and provides the kitchen with endless new recipe ideas. National acclaim at The Anchor The Anchor, Wingham … The Best New Pub In The Country
Kevin & Michelle Abbott of The Anchor at Wingham picked up the national award for best newcomers at The BT Sport/Morning Advertiser Great British Pub Awards at the end of last year. With over 800 pubs entering what is considered to be the most prestigious accolade in the licensed trade. Kevin and Michelle were judged regional winners for London and the Southeast but won not only the regional title but the national award as well. Over the past year Kevin and Michelle with their daughters Bethany and Polly and son Robbie, have not only turned around a tired pub but also an entire village, according to their loyal regulars. As well as raising standards across the business, the big idea that put The Anchor back on track was the conversion of a disused function room into an arts centre – style venue that has hosted music acts from all over the world. Good, honest home-made food and a focus on cask beers have helped bring people back into the pub, too, and the Abbotts have reached out to the local community, inviting sports teams, music groups, clubs and societies to make The Anchor their home. Turnover at the Enterprise Inns Tenancy has soared and the Anchor is once again a busy and very popular community village pub.

Rebecca Ferguson Winter Gardens Margate Friday 14th March
Rebecca Ferguson will play an intimate show at the Margate Winter Gardens on Friday March 14, in what will be a unique venue for her to showcase her extraordinarily powerful new material. Rebecca came to prominence in 2010 when she became the runner-up of the seventh series of The X Factor, losing to the winner that year Matt Cardle. Her second studio album, Freedom, was released in December 2013, being met with positive reviews from critics and commercial success in the United Kingdom where it charted at number 6 and has since been certified Gold by the BPI. This will be only Rebecca’s second full UK tour ever, her first in 2012 climaxing with triumphant shows in London at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane.

Tom Wrigglesworth: Utterly at odds with the universe Theatre Royal Margate Wednesday 12th March
Direct from a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival. Yorkshire man, Sony Award Winner, Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominee, Chortle & Time Out Award winner and Star of Radio 4 and BBC 2, Tom Wrigglesworth returns with an exquisite new show. In turns, poignant and hilarious, Tom takes an emotional journey exploring his profound relationship with his granddad. Throughout childhood, they would frequently make tape recordings of themselves interviewing each other. Reflecting on these early conversations, Tom comes to fully understand the influence this man has had on his own life, and explores the fantasy of being able to make ‘one final interview’. Expect elegant flourishes of language, twisted logic and whimsical storytelling courtesy of one of the finest and most original comics in the UK. You could also expect next week’s lottery numbers, but let’s deal with one thing at a time. Simply put, it’s about Tom.

Anything Goes De La War Pavilion Bexhill Tuesday 25th March ‘One of the greatest musicals ever written.’ Experience the critically acclaimed University of Chichester Touring Company, bringing this Broadway sensation to the regional stage. Winner of three 2011 Tony® Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Cole Porter’s Anything Goes remains the timeless classic that it was in 1934. As the SS American heads out to sea, two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love…proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this hilariously bumpy ride are some of musical theatre’s most memorable songs, including ‘You’re the Top,’ ‘It’s De-lovely,’ and of course, ‘Anything Goes.’

Lucky Jackson Lucky Jackson is an up and coming singer and songwriter from Folkestone, Kent who is really starting to make waves. Lucky has been writing songs since 2000 and has produced over forty original compositions, utilizing instruments such as acoustic guitar, cajun, harmonica and ukulele. Having moved to Canada for two years where he gained a large loyal fan base, he is hitting the local music scene in a large way locally. Having been picked up by a manager who was impressed by his original compositions Lucky is rebranding and taking a different musical direction. Moving from the mainly covers scene, he is now becoming recognised for his original material and regularly receives encores for some of his amusing and catchy tracks.
“Lucky’s first set began with a request for an encore... so already the audience was in luck”
Lucky is a versatile musician who cannot be put into a genre category. He’s music is wide ranging and incorporates, folk, country, heartfelt ballads, cutting political commentary and some catchy, slightly more comedic numbers. This gives him a large target audience with literally something for everyone, a rarity in today’s fast moving and shifting musical world. His experiences of travelling the world performing shine through in all aspects of his performance. With a persona that crowds instantly warm too, Lucky is often found entertaining audiences not only with his captivating material but also his witty banter and ability to interact with all. Experience shines through and it is clear that Lucky is an accomplished and confident performer, never looking more comfortable than when on the stage. Quote from a recent gig review Lucky received: “Lucky’s first set began with a request for an encore so already the audience was in luck, beginning with an up-tempo but longing track. Sincere and heartfelt, this began a very diverse set drawing on originals such as the fiery protest song Bush Wars as well as the emotive Perfection In My Eyes which was also trending on Reverbnation to Lucky’s surprise.” David Horn - GIGgle Pics www.gigglepics.co.uk You can find more information on Lucky Jackson and hear some of his original material via: www.facebook.com/LuckyJacksonOfficial www.reverbnation.com/LuckyJacksonOfficial https://luckyjackson.bandcamp.com/ For bookings or info please contact Sarah Quinn squinn.management@gmail.com - 07849 851572

The Soundcasters
There’s not many bands that we are asked to feature in W3 but supporters of The Soundcasters have been badgering us to do just that… so here they are… The Soundcasters are a popular and exciting 4 piece Indie Band from Maidstone, and wow audiences and fellow musicians wherever they play. Aged between 20 and 22 and though still young, they have a mature, distinctive sound. Producing a unique and varied style of song writing which marries various styles of pop, jazz, reggae and rock, resulting in catchy, memorable tunes with well written lyrics. Their music is intelligent, energetic, and fun.
This is a young band from Kent who are really vibrant
The band featured in an episode of the Channel 4 documentary ‘Amish: Worlds Squarest Teenagers’ and in 2011 they filmed for a Sony advert at O2 Brixton Academy.
Their performances didn’t stopped there, The Soundcasters have wowed audiences at the infamous Cavern Club in Liverpool as well as London venues such as The Barfly, Bull and Gate, Hope and Anchor and the Dublin Castle. Festivals have also featured in the bands performances, they have appeared at Local and Live Festival in Tunbridge Wells, Togfest and Lounge on the Farm, alongside Toots and the Maytals, & Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Local radio stations KMFM & BBC Radio Kent have both interviewed the Soundcasters and have featured the bands numbers on air. Here’s just one of the many comments on the band “Every year at the IPO, we find a bit of a nugget. We found this year’s nugget tonight, This is a young band from Kent who are really vibrant, playing jumpy catchy tunes. One of the things that set them apart from many of the other young bands, was their professionalism. They included a cover of The Band’s “The Weight” complete with glorious Crosby Stills and Nash type harmonies. Speaking with some of our IPO friends after the gig, they all agreed… this is a great band!’ Cavern Club, Liverpool, With their feet firmly on the ground, you can still catch them at a number of local venues across Kent, check out their website for forthcoming gigs. http://www.thesoundcasters.co.uk/

Maidstone Fringe Festival Thursday 1st- Monday 5th May The Fourth Maidstone Fringe Festival follows on from its predecessors in celebrating the diversity of new and original music in Kent and the South East, and during five days over the Mayday Bank Holiday weekend, filling the county towns numerous pubs, clubs and music venues with live acts from across many different genres. Incorporated within the festival are a number of all-day events and dance all-nighters, as well as family friendly entertainment in Jubilee Square and cafes and coffee shops in the Town Centre, with much of the music being free to attend! Building on the success of previous festivals, the 2014 event will see a wide mixture of music in Maidstone, from rock, indie and pop-punk, through to acoustic and blues acts, contemporary folk, funk, soul, dance and hip-hop. Established artists playing this year include one of Kent’s most renowned live bands - The James Taylor Quartet, whose blend of funky Hammond organ led acid jazz, sees them playing numerous shows and festivals on an international scale. They appear at The Music Room, Pizza Express alongside Mark Morriss – frontman for brit-pop, chart-toppers The Bluetones, on tour with his solo show – a mixture of new material and classic Bluetones tracks. Some big names in the dance world, appear at The Source Bar, with an outdoor stage in Rose Yard, hosting Ms Dynamite, The Artful Dodger, Amine Edge & DANCE, DJ Luck & MC Neat and Tapesh, amongst many. A new addition this year is an outdoor stage – the ‘Festival Folly’ which will see some very accomplished artists including Dulcie May And The Mystery Cats, Gentlemen Of Few and Tener Duende in Jubilee Square over the weekend of the festival. Also in the High Street - Rafters host a live hip-hop night, organised by promoters 40 oz, and an evening of raw and punky bands with BBC Introducing favourites Slaves, supported by Mourning Birds and Punching Swans. Kent-based blues acts, who are making a name for themselves include David Migden & The Twisted Roots, and Kingsize Slim, who both play at Earls, as do upcoming indie artists Black Lion Courtiers, Skies and Theatre Royal. Fans of stand up comedy are well catered for this year with showcases at The Walnut Tree, The Druids Arms and Stepping Stone Studios. Stepping Stone also feature a night of post-rock for the more alternative music lovers, with highly regarded performers Upcdown C, Youthblood and Frau Pouch all sharing a bill. Elsewhere, The Style & Winch feature local favourites The Soundcasters with their 60s influenced sound, and funk, soul and swing at their Bank Holiday Monday alldayer with Hullaballoo and Mama Roux, and acoustic fusion from Pip Bowers & The Family Bones and Truvelo Drive.
