“Our whole house was burgled in Christchurch. Everything was taken; the fruit in the fruit bowl, the iron, even the mirrors off the wall.”

This week Waimea Weekly and Nelson Weekly launched its snapped up with only a couple of spots remaining. “It’s an new website, giving readers easier access to local news con- exciting development for us and we look forward to hearing tent online. what people think of it,” says Steve. The website – www.waimeaweekly.co.nz – allows readers to check out the latest stories, comment on articles and share their favourite photos or stories on Facebook and Twitter. It also has a photo gallery, advertising details and retains its popular function to read the whole newspaper online each week – a feature used around 1200 times each week on its old website. The site will also allow the Weeklys to post breaking news throughout the week, keeping our readers up to date. Chief executive of the newspapers, Steve Page, says the website is another positive step for the locally owned newspaper group. “The new site compliments the paper and will give readers even more of an opportunity to get involved with their local paper, be it through comments or keeping up to date with the latest news throughout the week.” The Waimea Weekly and Nelson Weekly launched its new website Advertising spaces on the site have also been quickly this week. Jared Cummings, 11, had his black BMX bike stolen from Waimea Intermediate School last week. Photo: Phillip Rollo.
When Jared Cummings went to collect his bike after school it was nowhere to be seen. The eleven year old Waimea Intermediate School student thought one of his friends must have been playing a joke. But it wasn’t long before the reality sunk in that it had in fact been stolen from the school grounds during the day. Jared bikes to school every day and because it is one of the “older” bikes in the bike stand, he never locks it up. “I thought it had been moved around at first but then I looked around and I couldn’t find it. So that’s why I told someone coming out doing road patrol,” he says. It is a black BMX bike with orange forks. It has a white seat with black stripes that Jared says should be easy to spot. Jared’s mother Sandra says the bike was “a couple of years” old and was worth around $250. She reported the stolen bike to the Nelson Police. If anyone spots the bike, please call the police. Sandra was hoping the thief would return the bike to the school’s bike stands, which are down the driveway of the school.

Bell rings for grower The regional leg of the Young Growers Awards was won by Jos Bell of Hoddy’s Orchard, which hosted the event The competition saw nine contestants from Motueka, Riwaka and Waimea Plains face off in as many disciplines, testing a range of skills necessary to be a successful grower. The tests were practical as well as theoretical, from irrigation and fencing to maturity testing, pest and disease and staff human resources. Many local businesses came together to support the event. Last year Kevin Withington, the regional winJos Bell from Hoddy’s Orchard won the regional Young Fruit Grower of ner from Nelson, went on to win the overall tithe Year competition. Photo: Rosie Thomsen. tle. Kevin is also employed by Hoddy’s Orchard.
This is the fourth year the competition has been run and it continues to attract more entrants each year, with contestants saying the acknowledgement gives a real “boost” to their careers as well as the industry. Jos received $1500 and an Energies Fruit Foundation trophy for winning the regional leg, as well as an all expenses paid trip to Hawke’s Bay to see the orchard systems there. He will go on to compete in the national event, held at the Horticulture New Zealand conference in Auckland later this month. “The next step is to go to the national finals, so that’s going to be another step up and another challenge, I’m looking forward to that,” says Jos.

Teacher finds new challenge Trudie Walter is saying adiós to Garin College. The foundation Spanish teacher is taking up a similar role at an international school in Malaysia following ten and a half years at Garin. Trudie was also head of the language faculty and was employed to establish the subject at the school when it opened. She had the privilege of teaching every single Year 9 student that attended Garin College Garin College foundation teacher Trudie Walter is Trudie’s husband Graeme Sims will moving to Malaysia where she will teach Spanish at also be joining her in Malaysia. Garin but left the role as a mathematics teacher three years ago. The school in Malaysia is brand new, which makes the challenge similar to the couple’s experience when Garin first opened. But with three children, Joseph, Damian and Rebecca, now finished secondary school, the decision was made to venture somewhere new. The school is in mainland-Malaysia, near Singapore. “There will be students from all over the world but the main language will be English,” says Trudie. “We’re not afraid of hard work and we’re excited about that.”
Trudie has always “loved” languages, but was first hooked on Spanish when she attended high school in the United Kingdom. “A lot of it was because of the teacher I had. She was very inspirational and I loved her classes. But I also loved the sound of the language and it’s very easy to learn.” Last year Trudie took a class to Chile, which she labelled as one of the highlights during her ten years, along with the amount of families she has got to know over the years. The Catholic values of the school was the most important aspect, she says.

A record number of entrants took to the catwalk during the first day of the Richmond Mall’s Model Search. The week long competition began with the Miss Primary Richmond Mall section, for entrants between four and eight years old. During the course of the week, different age groups will have their turn as they try to force their way into the finals. Ten competitors were selected into the finals on Friday from Monday’s contestants. Miss Junior Richmond Mall, for contestants age nine to 11 years old, will be held this morning, followed by Miss Intermediate Richmond Mall on July 4 and Miss Teen Richmond Mall on July 5. The confidence shown in all of the models was the biggest improvement on last year, says Model Search judge Leonie Trathen, citing that around 60 per cent of entrants had competed before. The overall top model will win a $500 photo shoot while all competitors will go in the drawn to win a family holiday to the Gold Coast. The judging begins at 11am on each day of the event.

More than just a scooter Phillip Rollo If a motorbike and a scooter had a love child, Ron Buck could show you the result. Ron, the owner of Custom Scooter Imports has imported 20 custom scooters from Japan and sells them on TradeMe and at his business on Lower Queen St. They are the only custom scooters currently on the market in New Zealand. Popular in Asia, the 250cc four stroke custom scooters are economic fuel wise but offer similar specs to a mo-
torbike. They can reach speeds of 120kph, making them safe to ride on any road in New Zealand. They are made from well known motorbike companies such as Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki. Some of the custom scooters have unique sound systems, unheard of in regular scooters and motorbikes. A motorbike licence would be required to ride one of the custom scooters. “These are a first in New Zealand and they’re full custom; custom furrings, custom pipes, sound systems on it,” says Ron. “They have a mini amp
tucked away and you just plug your iPhone in and play music while you’re driving.” They all have two seats with larger storage capacity than an a regular scooter. The custom scooters retail between $10,000 and $12,000. They are fully serviced before they go out. Ron says they are ideal for students and for “the older person” looking to get back onto their bike. They are also ideal for longer trips, something near impossible on a regular scooter. To find out more about the custom scooters, phone Ron on 027 262 3222.

Icy roads cause havoc
Black ice caused havoc for Tasman motorists last week with one van sliding off the Three Brothers Corner overbridge and other minor accidents reported. Nelson Police issued extreme warnings for motorists as temperatures dropped below zero over night, resulting in heavy frost and black ice. The Appleby Bridge was also problematic for some drivers.

Students warm to winter swim Close to 50 Waimea College students braved nine degree waters for the annual mid-winter swim on Thursday. Because the Waimea College Pool is not in use during the winter months, it is not heated either. So instead of its usual 20 plus temperatures, the pool was a very mild nine degrees. But that didn’t stop a strong number of students make a splash in the last week of term. All students had to swim at least one width of the pool to obtain
house points. Only one student swam more than one width as the rest raced straight into the hot showers. Acting deputy principal Gus Shirley was impressed with the turnout, considering how cold the air temperature was. “I was surprised that there was around 50 people,” he says. “Nine degrees is pretty cold. I’m not sure what it was like last year but nine or ten degrees is about the pool’s normal temperature throughout the winter.”

Students showcase talent
Garin College student Olivia Nott models one of the dresses made from recycled materials at the school’s Mahi Toi concernt. Photo: Phillip Rollo.
The top musical, cultural, artistic and theatrical students at Garin College took to the stage to celebrate Mahi Toi. Last month students took two days away from their regular classroom routines to make cupcakes, write songs, perform poetry and create wearable dresses out of recycled curtains and other reusable materials as part of the Mahi Toi Festival. Thursday night showcased the top students’ efforts as well as giving parents and friends of the school a chance to witness what the students had completed. Other cultural performances from the first half of the year were also highlighted including the winning Stage Challenge performance and competitors from the recent O’Shea Shield competition and entrants from Smokefreerockquest. The evening was hosted by head arts students Georgia Nott and Isaac Thomas and held at the Hope Community Church. Event organiser and head of music Kyle Proffit says the concert grows every year and was particularly impressed by the amount of younger entrants for 2012. “I think the amount of junior students on show this year displays how things are going,” he says. “We have a lot of young talent coming into the school and they’re being inspired by the older kids. It’s great to see them involved in the showcase concerts.”
Andy and Kirstie Van Houtte are thrilled to welcome Yasmin Emma, born on Thursday May 17 in Victoria, Australia. The Richmond couple, who moved to Wangaratta in 2010, say they are “really enjoying” having Yasmin in their lives. “It seems as if she’s always been here and she’s only six weeks old,” says Kirstie. Yasmin was 7.1 pounds when she was born.

Wedding show nears Wedding fever is hitting the region with the countdown to the Bride of the Year show now into the final fortnight. The show is a fundraiser for the Nelson Regional Hospice Trust and it got an early start this year with supporter Paula Holder, of Paula’s Preschool, dressing as a bride and selling raffle tickets at the Saturday market. Organiser Heather Harley, says it was fantastic to have Paula working the market and helping raise awareness about the show. The Bride of the Year Show is being held at the Hope Commu-
nity Church on Saturday July 14 from 7.45pm and Heather says she is still accepting last minute brides who would like to get that dress back on for one more public showing. It is open for all brides married from June 16 2011 until the same date this year. The show will feature the judging for the bride of the year competition, giveaways, a variety concert, dancing exhibition and a fantastic silent auction. For more details or to enter email heather.harley@xtra. co.nz.

Next Wednesday and Thursday the Tasman Visual Arts Group will be hosting an exhibition of their works in the Richmond Town Hall. The group involves artists of all levels, with portraits, landscape, modern art, and subject matter from scenery to animals and more. im cloth, offering a varied display, with all items up for sale. Around 30 artists have been involved with creating works for the exhibition. The Tasman Visual Arts Group have been working steadily on works for the exhibition, which they host twice yearly in summer and winter. The group has been running for around a decade. The members get together each week for plein
air painting, with the third week of each month devoted to creative art in the Brightwater Hall. They are always looking for new members, so to join get in touch with Jean Wells on 544 3971. The exhibition is to promote art. “That’s what it’s all about,” says Jean. A gold coin donation is asked for on entry, with free tea and coffee available as you browse.

Salisbury show thanks supporters
A packed house witnessed Salisbury School’s Rhythm of Life Show last week with all of the funds raised going to the St John Ambulance. Around 135 people packed into the school’s hall. The students had been practicing for weeks leading up to the end of term but decided to use the show to thank supporters as the school faces an uncertain future. More than $230 was raised on the night.

From My Desk
Come and have fun with our real snow at Fashion Island! It truly looks like a winter wonderland outside Lush and Living and Giving. Bring the kids and put on the gloves, scarves and warm jackets and come and build snowmen, make snow angels, or just throw it around. We have real snow thanks to the great guys at Talleys and Glen James Jewelers for the snow makers. Our winter wonderland school holiday promotion also gives you the chance to win double passes to Rainbow or Cardrona near Queenstown. Just spend $30 in any of our shops and you will go into the draw to win. This is the perfect time to grab some warm winter jackets and merinos from the stores here at the centre. Also on offer during the month of July is a fashion wardrobe stylist who is here Wednesdays and Fridays between 1pm and 4pm. Meet Christchurch based “wardrobe angel” Jackie Sheehan who will be in Merric, with Kathleen and the team. Take advantage of some Fashion fabulousness and either pop into the store or book in for an ‘at home wardrobe audit’ for a fun with fashion evening from the comfort of your own home. Have a fabulous week and I look forward to meeting you here at Fashion Island.

Hey, thanks for reading
I was mildly amused the other day. I’d succumbed to a respiratory infection which was in no hurry to shove off. I felt at times like I had been run over by the All Black forward pack. Plans for a weekend family catch-up in Christchurch had to be abandoned. But would you believe, my non-appearance evoked laughter and the suggestion to my wife that I was suffering from “man flu.” I didn’t take it seriously of course; it was part of the friendly banter which goes on between the sexes when blokes need to take time out due to illness. No offence was intended, nor taken. However not all words we have directed at us can so easily be laughed off. I can imagine the Anglican Bishop of Christchurch being less than amused by words expressed about her by the Wizard of that city in a advertising campaign in support of Paul Tregurtha, retaining the cathedral. Waimea MethHe said, “She is seriously odist Parish. cracked, and I see no evidence that she can be made safe. Even if that were possible, there would be no point restoring her as she is as dull and bland as her beloved cardboard cathedral”. The Advertising Standards Authority received three complaints over the ad. However they were dismissed. The Standards Authority said the advertisement was simply a “dark play on words,” and that it was opinion not fact. Does this mean it is now open season for publically taking the mickey in the name of freedom of speech?

Wakefield Playcentre recently enjoyed a day at Rabbit Island. Alex and Ben are pictured with the mobiles they crafted from driftwood and shells collected from the beach. “We were fortunate to have some Regional personnel come to Nelson from up north to take the training. It was organised by our Zone Leaders, Mike and Bridget Smith who did a fantastic job of coordinating the event. Attending training courses gives leaders the opportunities to expand their knowledge, network with leaders from other groups or zones and gain more ideas and experiences to take back to the youth. All leaders from Wakefield finished the weekend with not only new ideas but also a new level of enthusiasm for subtle changes they now wish to make to improve the running of the group. It was also good to see one of our new leaders being invested on the Sunday, making her role more official. Our Scout group is currently looking for new leaders in all sections to lessen the load of those who are there, so if you are interested, please contact Nick Law on 541 9190 for more details. Rainbow Ski Field currently boasts the best start to the season in a decade. With the snow depth already at 50cm, it’s the perfect time to dig your snow gear out of the cupboard and get out here to rip up the mountain. The slopes celebrated the 2012 opening on Saturday with cracker weather and a large number of people came along to enjoy the first day of the Rainbow season. The snow depth was between 20cm and 60cm, providing great coverage on all runs and slopes. This year the terrain park has been expanded, with volunteers working most weekends in the off season to repair, upgrade and extend the park. The boxes and rails have been improved, and the terrain park covers several hundred downhill metres, giving skiers and boarders more to play with and more chances to try their skills without slowing down
and with minimum stoppages so that you get the most from your day at the mountain. It’s even easier to spend the day on the slopes this winter, with a new Rainbow Shuttle service running through Nelson, Stoke, Richmond and St Arnaud every day the ski fields are open this winter. A ticket will only cost you $45, $30 for children. Timetables are available online, where you can also book your ticket. The bus provides a great transport option, as all cars and buses need to carry chains fitted to the vehicle to gain access from the bottom car park, no matter the weather conditions, in case they are needed. Shuttle bus services run from the bottom car park, or chains can be hired, with providers listed on the Rainbow website. Family Day Passes have been added to the pass options this year after proving a popular request. Two adults and two or

Adult passes cost $70 a day, or $49 for a half day, beginning at 12.30pm, half cost for children up to 17 years. Students from New Zealand and Australia can enjoy a day on the slopes for only $50. Children under seven can try their talents on the snow for free. Rainbow boasts leading facilities, with a café on the snow serving a great range of food, from soups and pies to sweets

Rental gear is available, as well as repairs and maintenance services for snow equipment. Ski and board schools offer lessons for all stages of ability, and there are snow making facilities. private lessons, and coaching programmes to cater for all levels of skier or snowboarder from

Private lessons offer the opportunity for either one-on-one coaching, or a group lesson with just your family or friends, and coaching specific to your individual needs. Rainbow's coaching programmes offer promising young skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to develop their competitive skills over the season. Nelson likely to score top football
Andrew Board
Nelson is on track to have its bid for national league football granted. Two representatives from New Zealand Football were in town on Friday, looking over facilities and meeting with members of the consortium that has put the bid together. Final word should come within a fortnight and if granted means Nelson could be playing in the 2012/13 season of an expanded
ASB Premiership this coming summer. It is understood several top New Zealand coaches are in discussions with the consortium about the new team. News of the bid was first reported by Waimea Weekly in March. Head of the bid, Aldo Miccio, would not confirm the visit by the NZ Football representatives but says he is positive about the feedback he was getting from the sport’s national body. “We are very positive, we’ve had very good
discussions with them and they are impressed with what we have done and what we propose to do.” Concern around funding still exists in the wider football community but Aldo says the Top of the South group has already half of the sponsorship target pledged, without applying for gaming machine money or funds from current supporters of Nelson club sides. If granted a licence to play in the ASB Premiership, the Nelson senior team and un-
der 20 team would play its home games at Trafalgar Park and give more profile to the region, says Aldo. “At the moment we have two national sports teams, the Tasman Makos and the Nelson Giants, a third would put us on the national stage again and will also give our kids the opportunity to play at the highest level here in their home town.” The ASB Premiership is currently an eight team league with the South Island only represented by Canterbury and Otago.

KartSport driver gets timely boost
Jamie Smith is praying for rain. The 16 year old KartSport driver will behind the wheel of the top kart in the country at this weekend’s New Zealand Secondary School KartSport Championship and with local driver Brendan Gridley leading his pit crew, the car is primed to handle wet conditions. Jamie will be competing in the rotax lite class and has ventured to nationals with mixed success over the past three years. He hopes to imrpove on his best finish of ninth place and is gunning for a top six spot. Jamie is familar with the track in Upper Hutt and says it is a “challenging circuit” with plenty of incline variation. The top driver after five heats will claim pole position in the final. Jamie was leaving for Wellington on Thursday where he will get two days of practice in before competition begins on Saturday. For daily updates visit www.kartsportnelson. co.nz.

Wanderers ready for promotion
Courtney Clarke shoots during Saturday’s win. Photo: Phillip Rollo.
Wanderers Taylors A’s 35–32 win over Rival Cougars all but guarantees them a place in the Premier grade for the Championship Round. Wanderers lead the Grade 1 competition on 16 points and a solitary point from the final game of the round to be played on 14 July will see them return to the elite grade. Wanderers were outclassed in Premier in the Preliminary Round however according to coach, Jared Lock they are developing nicely and his team have been boosted by the four wins. They are well and truly ready for the step up to Premier and are excited by the prospect. Each one of the Wanderers roster have good individual skills however their strength is that they are beginning to gel as a team. Jared said no one player “owns their bib” and everyone is pushing for their position and there is great competition for the start-
ing lineup. Wanderers began strongly and had their noses in front at the first break, however they fell off the pace in the second and third quarters while Rival Cougars moved up a gear to take the lead with ten minutes to play. Some stern words and a “bit of a rev up” from the coaching staff was enough for Wanderers to lift the bar to take the win. Once Wanderers got on a roll, their confidence lifted, they let the ball go and there was superb flow through court. There is versatility within their ranks and there are a number of options available depending on their opposition. The mid court was shuffled on Saturday and it immediately played dividends – Fern Hoskin moved to centre, and Ashleigh McLean to wing defence and along with wing attack Daina
Crosbie the combination proved to be a formidable one. Goal defence, Alina Bleaken had her best game of the season and had a useful understanding with keeper, Kiriana Davis to apply pressure to Rival’s shooters. Courtney Clark was the dominant shooter while goal attack, Mackenzie Archibald was smart with the off load with Courtney having great body position to gather in the rebound. Rival mentor, Dianne Whittle was happy with her girls – they fought hard and there were a couple of lucky turnovers late in the game that went Wanderers way. Goal keep, Anna Allen came in for special praise – she just “kept going and going” while Dana Weir had a useful contribution at wing defence. Goal shoot, Kelly Jenkins was as solid as a rock with Sophie Adams playing a nice but unassuming game at wing attack.

Wolves head into ‘must win’ territory Ben Cooper A win for the Tahunanui Tigers has given Malbas Bar Wanderers Wolves a lifeline despite losing 68-12 on the weekend. The 68-12 loss to Stables Richmond Rabbits was a disappointing result for the Wolves side who had been improving with each game and it looked like its season was essentially over with the Wairau Taniwha leading the Tahuna Tigers 20-6 at half time. However the
Tigers staged a comeback in the second half to win 30-28 and gift the Wolves another life. The games this weekend will determine the semi finalists, with the loser of the Wolves/Taniwha game to bow out, the winner going on to play the winner of the Rabbits/Cobras game for a spot in the final while Tahuna get a well deserved week off before their playoff game. Jace Kaisia and James Scoltock scored the Wolves’ two tries.

It’s the most important day in Waimea Old Boys’ rugby calendar so it seems fitting a date to host the division one side’s do-or-die clash with neighbours Wanderers. If you have ever played for a Waimea Old Boys team, or been part of a coaching, management or support team, make the effort to head along on Saturday. You will no doubt catch up with some old mates and make some new ones. Kaide Whiting scores his second try to give Waimea Old Boys the lead during Saturday’s clash with Riwaka.
Waimea remain in playoff hunt Scott “Macka” McKenzie Two second half tries to Kaide Whiting has kept Waimea Old Boys’ playoff hopes alive. Star & Garter Waimea Old Boys took 76 minutes to make its way past a resilient ENZA Riwaka side in a must-win fixture on Saturday. The wins sees Waimea Old Boys claim a valuable four points in the
tightly contested Car Company division one competition. The way Waimea started the match you would have thought it was going to be smooth sailing with a try to new Tasman Mako James Lowe after just five minutes of play. But that was about all the action the visitors got in the first half as Waimea held a
10- 6 lead at the break. The second half saw Riwaka take the lead 12-10 after a couple of penalties, only for Josh Rutledge to take it back 13-12 in Waimea’s favour. Kaide Whiting brushed off what was expected to be a season ending ankle injury to dot down for the side’s second try. This gave Waimea all the momentum in
the second spell, forcing uncharacteristic errors into Riwaka’s play. Patrick Pye’s super human strength in the 76th minute caused a tight head on Riwaka’s 22 meter line for Kaide to score his second try of the match and to give Waimea a very important win. Waimea face old foes Taylor’s Contracting Wanderers at Jubilee Park this Saturday.
fullback made a great line break to score under the posts to put them out to a 10-0 lead. Waimea kicked into gear with some structure and great team play to see outstanding blindside flanker Charna Thompson score Waimea’s first try of the match. It was converted by Penny Stickney. Waimea’s forwards made their physical presence well known even against a bigger
Marist pack. Winger Sarah George made a great run showing her pace to score in the corner putting Waimea ahead 14-10 at the break. Loose forward Amanda Sim dotted over the line seven minutes into the half to stretch the lead even further. A tighthead at scrum time saw a great move by Amanda and halfback Tarsh Kara result in a try to Aleisha Hart.
Waimea’s loose forwards were having a field day and when Kelly Stanford won a great line out ball from a well placed kick by Penny, Charna cross the line again. The home side was not done yet and captain Nikita Lunjevich scored the final try of the match to seal the win for Waimea Waimea will host the final in two week’s time against the winner of this weekend’s semi between Stoke and Marist.

The Waimea Old Boys women’s rugby team have secured a home final after an impressive team effort saw it come from behind to beat Marist 38-15. Waimea got off to a very slow start with Marist captain Aleisha Curtis scoring the opening points to the match 20 minutes into the first half. Not long after Marist’s

Paintballers take aim Waimea College will look to defend the Paintball Nelson Appleby School Cup this Friday when the team of seven goes up against Nayland College, Nelson College and Motueka High School. It is the second year the competition is held but due to its success last time round, the format will remain the same. Teams compete
in various scenarios and games that often include the rule of “if you’re hit you’re out,” says organiser Wayne Stockdale. The majority of the teams include paintball club members, however the Motueka side is made up of part-time players. The action begins in Appleby at around 11am.

Motueka Aerodrome Management and Development Plans The Council has prepared a management plan and a development plan for Motueka Aerodrome and is now inviting the community to comment on those plans. The plans are available on the Council website www.tasman.govt.nz/policy/public-consultation Copies are also available from Council offices and Libraries at Motueka and Richmond. The purposes of the plans are to coordinate the aerodromes use, operations, maintenance and developments safely, efficiently and in cooperation with the aerodrome operators. The management plan addresses issues such as permitted and discretionary uses of the aerodrome, management objectives, conditions for the operation of businesses, environmental as well as health and safety issues. The development plan sets out the parameters of acceptable growth for the aerodrome including the provision of proposed development areas including criteria for any future buildings etc. There will not be a hearing to consider submissions. Once the Council has considered written submissions, the plans will be finalised and placed on the Council website. This process should be completed by the end of August 2012. Submissions to these plans will be received up until 4.00 pm Friday 13 July 2012, and should be addressed to: Submission on Motueka Aerodrome Management and Development Plans Tasman District Council Private bag 4 Richmond 7050 Or may be emailed to mamdsubmission@tasman.govt.nz Submission forms may be downloaded from the Council website or may be obtained from the Council offices or Libraries at Richmond or Motueka. These plans do not cover activities outside the envelope of the aerodrome. While an increase or decrease in future activity at the aerodrome may impact on the numbers and frequency of aircraft using the airspace in and around the aerodrome, the use of the airspace is not addressed in these plans as the Council in its role as owner and operator of the aerodrome does not control airspace. Submissions should focus on the information provided (or not provided) in the plans and while consequential matters may be considered by the Council when reviewing submissions, issues such as flight paths, flying areas or pilot behaviour, where the Council does not have control, are unlikely to be considered.
