Family sells $5.5M farm A property rated as one of Nelson’s best farms has sold for the first time since the 1880s, landing the owners an expected retirement package in excess of $5.5million. Wantwood, a 672 hectare sheep and beef farm on Eighty Eight Valley Rd owned by the Shuttleworth family, was sold to an undisclosed buyer for an undisclosed price. Peter Evans of PGG Wrightson Real Estate Limited sold the farm and described it as
one of the region’s best. While he was unable to name the buyer or the price it was sold for due to a confidentiality agreement, Waimea Weekly can confirm the Rateable Valuation of the property was $5,550,000 in 2011 while the land alone was worth $4,850,000 during the same year. Peter did confirm, however, that it was bought by a local farming family that wanted to expand its existing sheep and beef operations

and a conversion to deer. He says the local offer was sealed despite interest from overseas, including one client who made two visits to see the property. “Because of its proximity to Nelson, its size, scale and history, Wantwood is a premium property, of a type that only comes onto the market very rarely.” SEE PAGE 6
