TDC attendance released Zane Mirfin is the least likely councillor to turn up to a council meeting, figures released this week reveal. The first term Richmond ward councillor turned up to 93 out of a possible 120 meetings, well below the next lowest, Tim King at 101 appearances. Most of the other councillors attended between 103 and 110 of the council and standing committee meetings that have been held since the last election in 2010.

andrew@nelsonweekly.co.nz Golden Bay councillor Paul Sangster has attended 68 meetings but started half way through the term after winning a by-election for Noel Reilly’s vacant seat. Tasman mayor Richard Kempthorne says the figures – released to Waimea Weekly on
Monday – show that the council is committed. “I think it reflects the councillors are a committed hard working bunch of people.” He says he’s not disappointed with Zane’s attendance and neither should ratepayers. “I think that reflects the nature of Zane’s job as a [fishing] guide and in the summer he does get quite busy and sometimes just can’t attend. I think it’s a reality for all of us. If you look at what councillors get paid,
it’s far from a full time salary and they too have other part time jobs that have to fit in with council life and for what Zane does it’s just a reality.” Attempts to reach Zane for comment were unsuccessful. The highest attending councillors were Motueka’s Jack Inglis with 111, followed by Richmond’s Judene Edgar, Waimea/ SEE PAGE 2

The project is the brainchild of Michelle Collier who wanted to acknowledge those who go beyond the call of duty in their workplace. She calls it “The Loveliness Project” and along with friend Linda Homan, convinced their mothers and a dozen of their mother’s friends to make jars of jam to deliver to staff rooms of those who SEE PAGE 2
