Supermarket gets go ahead Simon Bloomberg Residents on Bateup Rd and Paramu Pl are “surprised” that Foodstuffs South Island has been granted a resource consent to build a New World supermarket at Three Brothers Corner near Richmond without any public notification. The Tasman District Council approved the resource consent last Thursday following a lengthy process that started when Foodstuffs purchased the former Bay Nursery site in 2007. Although the 1.64 hectare site has frontages adjoining Gladstone Rd and residential areas on Bateup Rd and Paramu Pl, the public will not be consulted. The council’s manager of environment and planning, Dennis Bush-King, says the proposal for the supermarket is “broadly in line” with plans that were approved by council last year. He says the effect of any changes to the plans are considered to be minor so the application has been processed without notification.
