Alleged bullying culture continues a Jonty Dine Reporter

Despite an investigation into her behaviour, nurses at Nelson Hospital allege a senior colleague is continuing to bully staff. A group of nurses allege the cul-

ture is so toxic that it put one into a deep depression. “Our hospital system is broken, and it is almost beyond repair,” one nurse, who spoke on condition of anonymity, says. In 2021, an investigation into the nurse’s behaviour was carried out and she was stood down with pay

for four and a half months following 40 complaints. The nurse, whom Waimea Weekly has decided not to name, has since returned to work. However, according to a group of nurses, her behaviour has not changed. Nelson Marlborough Health’s general manager people and ca-

pability, Trish Casey, confirmed, as a result of the investigation, actions were taken to improve the working environment. “There has been a process of looking into some concerns in relation to that employee. There have been recommendations, actions and suggestions which are

being implemented.” The nurses allege the senior colleague has been allowed to stay on as she has been seemingly successful at running what they say is an underfunded department. Nurses also say there is a high

In 2020, WorkSafe issued two ‘Improvement Notices’ to the NMDHB’s alcohol and drug addiction services department over staff workload pressures, bullying and mental distress. The notices came four months after a staff member died in a suspected suicide in what a former colleague alleges was partially the result of extreme job stress. The nurses say they all fear for their jobs if they complain about the culture. “You can fight, and fight, and fight - and lose, or just walk away.”

Children line up for first vaccine Jenny Nicholson Reporter

jennifer@waimeaweekly.co.nz

Amelise Kelling says it’s an exciting week for her – not only does she turn eight, but she is also having her first Covid-19 vaccination. She was one of the many children lined up outside the Richmond Vaccination Centre on Monday morning, happy to be one of the first 5-12 year olds to receive the vaccination. There are 476,300 children aged between 5 and 12 throughout the country who became eligible for the vaccine on Monday. More than 120,000 doses of the paediatric Pfizer vaccine have been delivered to more than 500 vaccination sites around New Zealand. As with the adult Pfizer vaccine, children will need two doses to be fully protected. These are usually given at least eight weeks apart. Dr Nick Baker, chief medical officer, Nelson Marlborough Health, says it’s great to see the rollout begin for children. “Due to their social nature, this age group tend to have a higher chance of catching Covid-19 and more chances of spreading it,” he says. He says the new variants of Covid-19 are more sticky for young people. “The incidence of severe dis-

However, generally Covid-19 has milder effects in children, with some children becoming severely ill and requiring hospitalisation.” This child vaccine is both smaller in volume and a lower dose than the adult vaccine. It is also administered using a smaller needle. A parent, caregiver or legal guardian must accompany the child for vaccination to provide consent. Amelise’s mother, Rhonda Kelling, says her daughter has

been asking about the vaccine for a long time. “We want to visit grandma and poppa in America,” Ronda says. “When things like Omicron calm down.” When Amelise receives her second vaccine, the family will be fully vaccinated. For Ronda, it is especially pleasing that Amelise will have had one vaccine before she goes back to school. “Especially with the wee scare at Enner Glynn School last year, it is good to know she will have started her vaccinations.” Nick says the Pfizer vaccine has been through clinical trials with children in this age group. “In general, the side effects that were reported were mild and similar to those from other routine vaccines. He says parents can help to prepare children for vaccination. “Children do pick up on emotions from parents, so being calm yourself will help. Making sure the children have had something to eat and drink beforehand and that they are wearing clothes that make it easy for the vaccinators to get to the upper arm.” Parents and caregivers can book online at BookMyVaccine.nz or make a whānau booking by calling the Covid Vaccination Healthline on 0800 28 29 26.

NEWS Wai-Iti crash: Three people were seriously injured, and one moderately injured following a crash between two cars on State Highway 6 on Sunday. The head-on collision occurred around 7:35am on Sunday morning and involved four people, two from each car, on the outskirts of Wai-Iti, south of Wakefield. The four occupants were taken to Nelson Hospital. Three Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) vehicles attended the scene, one each from Wakefield, Brightwater, and Richmond. FENZ shift supervisor Lyn Crosson confirmed that occupants from both vehicles had been trapped and were successfully rescued by firefighters. The scene of the accident, the area around the highway’s intersection with Hoult Valley Road, had been closed for multiple hours but reopened later in the day. The police’s Serious Crash Unit were advised.

So, she has appreciated the partnership with NBS which has provided lessons for those who would otherwise not be able to afford them. “Last year I approached them and said, ‘I know it’s a big ask but can we have more,” Crystal says. Last week she had confirmation that they would raise their sponsorship from 140

to 200 children this year. “That is 2,400 swimming lessons.” She says she is very excited about the increase. “It’s perfect timing. There have been so many drownings in New Zealand this year. Child education on water safety is important.” NBS general manager commercial and marketing Howie Timms says provid-

ing sponsorship for children’s swimming lessons removes barriers so is a good fit for them. Crystal is aware that many families cannot afford lessons, and that Covid-19 has put even more pressure on some family budgets. Priority is given to applicants who have a community services card. “That lets us know they fall in the lower income threshold,” Crystal says. The lessons will be split into two blocks, with one group running from January to April and the other 100 from April to July. Each week of the lesson has a focus on water safety, including ‘save yourself ’ and ‘helping others.’ Lessons are for children aged 5 to 13 years of age. Vaccine pass protesters target council buildings Erin Bradnock Local Democracy Reporter Tasman residents upset about the use of vaccine passes have staged “aggressive protests” outside council buildings over the last few weeks. After a brief stop outside Motueka Public Library around 11am last Tuesday, about 40 protesters travelled to Queen St Richmond to protest the introduction of vaccination pass requirements for Tasman libraries. As of Wednesday, 12 January, visitors to Tasman’s libraries required a vaccine pass for entry. Signs from protesters read “shame on Tasman Council” and “R.I.P to weekly family library visits”. Richmond Library staff said protesters had not tried to enter the building and were told that it would be a peaceful protest. The Richmond demonstration followed an “aggressive” protest outside a council building in Golden Bay last week. Tasman District Council staff hid in the backroom after 20 protestors entered the council’s Tākaka Service Centre on Commercial St at about 11am on Tuesday,

Protesters gathered outside Richmond Library last week in protest of Tasman District Council’s entry requirement of a vaccination pass that came into effect on Wednesday. Photo: Erin Bradnock. according to Tasman District Council communications officer Tim O’Connell. Tim says staff managed the situation by heading away from the front counter to a back room that required a swipe key for entry. A police spokesperson says a police report was filed after a group were seen to be “acting in a disorderly manner and refusing to leave”. The group disbursed shortly after police arrived and the building was closed in response until 1pm Tuesday. Tim says additional security

measures for Tasman council buildings are being discussed. Nelson City Council also require vaccine passes to enter their three libraries. NCC initially stated that library core services are an “essential part of our community’s day-to-day life”, so did not require a pass to enter. However, on 6 December, they changed the policy after feedback that some people felt “unsafe”.

Five-year-old Maddox Bonis and his three-year-old sister Izzy enjoyed participating in the Amazing Race held at Easby Park on Friday. The event finished with a crowd favourite which saw children climbing over the playground in an egg and spoon race. Maddox and Izzy worked hard to keep their ‘eggs’ on their spoons as they came down the slide. The Amazing Race was just one of the free community events being held between 6 January and 28 January. Other events are listed on Nelson & Richmond Parks Programme’s Facebook site. Photo: Jenny Nicholson.

Locals have to wait longer for dental treatment

Jenny Nicholson

Practice manager Mandie Ketcher is seeing a change in when people call with sore teeth. Photo: Jenny Nicholson.

Local dentists are seeing a change in how people approach dental care. Dental Care dentist Andrew Meffan says that prior to the first lockdown, about a third of Kiwis were proactive about their dental care. The rest were largely reactive, attending when they needed something fixed. “Over a half only got stuff done when they felt the need and with varying levels of urgency,” Andrew says.

He says lockdown highlighted the downside of being reactive, with people stuck with painful and infected teeth and not able to get treatment for the duration of lockdown. He says, when quick appointments were always available there was no urgency. Now, demand has increased, which he sees as a good thing if it means people are choosing regular dental check-ups. One Dental practice manager Mandie Ketcher says people are calling when

they feel a ‘slight niggle’, where in the past they often waited. “It’s good because a little niggle might just need a little treatment, while if it is left it can mean an extraction,” Mandie says. Both practices have seen growing waiting lists. Andrew Meffan says that the backlog from lockdown is just one cause. He says that some dental practices employ young dentists from overseas, who work here for a time before returning to their home country.

“It’s not so easy to replace them at the moment,” Andrew says. Mandie says the uncertainty around Covid-19 is seeing some overseas dentists moving home. Andrew says he doesn’t see a long-term shortage of dentists as there are more going through dental school here in New Zealand, and Australia is training well beyond the real need. Junior dentists are also less likely to leave to do their OE because of current travel restrictions.

One New Year’s Day, three birthdays Jenny Nicholson One family has more than most to celebrate each New Year. Three men from the same extended family all celebrate their birthday on 1 January. This year, family and friends met in Murchison to celebrate Rex Smith’s

70th birthday. Rex got the birthday cake, being the milestone birthday of the year. The other birthday boys were Robert Summers, who turned 49, and lives in Stoke, and his uncle Brian Parry. The pair visit each other regularly but with Rex living in Murchison visits are

less regular, however Robert says the family is very close. It was on his return from Scotland in 2000 that Robert heard that the three men shared a birthday. “It was quite a surprise,” he says. They are all related through Robert’s grandmother, who passed away in 2020.

“She would often comment, ‘you wouldn’t imagine all having the same birthdays’.” Robert says that when family and friends sing happy birthday, they manage to get all three names in. He is hoping next year will be another big family celebration, and that the cake will be for him as he turns 50.

The Lake Rotoroa water taxi has had a quiet year overall, according to its owner operator. Photo: Jenny Nicholson.

Slower summer concerns tourism sector Jenny Nicholson and Max Frethey While the Nelson Tasman region is expected to see 88,000 people fly here over the summer period, some from the tourist sector are concerned over the possibility of a slow season. Air New Zealand expects to fly the almost 90,000 customers on 2700 flights to the region between 15 December 2021 and 31 January 2022. “We’re excited to help connect Kiwis with their friends and whānau this summer,” chief customer and sales operator, Leanne Geraghty says. While Leanne says the domestic visitors are providing a “welcome boost for Nelson tourism and accommodation providers,” local businesses in the industry are still feeling the lack of international visitors. Tourism at both Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotorua boomed for the sunny 10 days after Christmas, following a very quiet early December. Lake Rotoiti Water Taxi owner operator Hamish Simpson says the season has been short, sharp, and sweet. “It was super dead before Christmas,” he says. “Then we worked super hard the 10 days from Christmas.” As people returned to work, things quietened down for Hamish. He says that even with a great 10 days over Christmas, profits would be about 30 per cent down on preCovid times. Craig Simpson runs the Lake Rotoroa Water Taxi and says the 2020-2021 period was the busiest they’ve had in 32 years, with bookings from September to Easter. He expects this year will be the quietest. “We were very busy from Christmas to New Year this year,” Craig says.

“It was very pathetic before that.” By 5 January bookings were flattening off and he says they definitely won’t make 50 per cent of what they usually make. While Covid-19 is a factor, the rain before Christmas did not help. “We lost thousands of dollars of cancellations from around the country,” he says. “It’s the worst spring we’ve had.” While the sunshine and warm days favoured the water taxi operators, Xscape Space owner Lindsay Bradley says wet weather is better for their business. “If it comes into rain we will be swamped,” he says. “The Thursday we woke to bad weather was our busiest day.” The escape room business owner says the three days between Christmas and New Year were steady but as people went back to work things were slowing down a bit. Sunshine over the holiday may have contributed to Quinney’s Bush bookings reaching capacity. Andrew Quinney says they were full until 6 January, with numbers remaining high right into last week. He says they were quieter than last year at the start of this season. “We were really busy last year,” he says. “We opened at Labour Weekend and were quieter than last year. The weather would definitely have played a part. “People are tending to book later, maybe a week or a few days in advance. “Some people are skeptical about the weather and there is some uncertainty with Covid.” The floods of 2021 caused damage to the swimming area at Quinney’s with the raft washing up some days later on a Taranaki beach. Andrew says the swimming hole they dug out this year was successful with both good inlet and outlet causing little rapids.

Hospital buggy back in action Kate Russell The Nelson Hospital shuttle buggy is back in action after a five-month hiatus. The much-utilised free service was shut down in August last year due to Covid-19, but now equipped with hand sanitiser, it is ready to get people up the hospital hill once again. “People have missed it,” says Kathy Cuthbert, who got the buggy service up and running back in 2006. Volunteer Clive Workman says they carry an average of 40 passengers a day. “But one day I did 48 pas-

sengers in just four hours.” The buggy has a brand new $6,000 lithium battery to power it on its journeys, which was funded by donations. The whole setup is run by volunteers and sponsors, including the Nelson Rotary Club. Volunteer Russell Egan says they would love to get some other businesses on board to help too as there is always maintenance to be done. Russell also says they are in need of more volunteers to drive the buggy. They currently have just

over 20 drivers but recently around 10 have been stood down for various reasons. Drivers must be fully vaccinated and be able to commit to one four-hour shift a fortnight. “It’s the best job I’ve ever done,” Russell says. “You meet so many different people and at the end of the day you feel so thankful you’ve helped so many people.” To find out more about being a buggy volunteer, pick up a form from the Nelson Hospital front desk or email volunteernmh@nm dhb.govt.nz

“The County would be deprived of a considerable portion of rates, while that Richmond people would enjoy the advantages of the County roads.” Others felt that the roads through the proposed borough had only just been put in good order, and now the Richmond people wanted to take them over and receive all the rates. It was resolved that a protest from the Waimea County Council be presented to the Governor, asking that the petition for forming the Richmond Town District into a borough be not granted. They argued that if the petition was granted it would throw the cost of the maintenance of the County road and two large bridges, a short distance outside the proposed borough on the ratepayers of the County. This was not upheld. In July 1891, Richmond was gazetted as a borough. George Talbot was elected the first mayor, and remained in this position for ten terms without opposition. At the first meeting of the Richmond Town Council, Mayor Talbot and councillors signed their names after the declaration was read. Mayor Tabolt spoke: “Before we commence this meeting Gentlemen, I should like to

Neglect of upkeep of planting on roundabouts and traffic islands on State Highway 6 coming into and out of Nelson. I’ve been meaning to write about this problem for over a year and am reminded as I drive past. They had been well maintained for years; I think a local company had the contract for them then. They have been neglected for (maybe) the last 2-3 years. They were given a going over last year but nothing this year that I can see. They are such an eyesore and make me feel ashamed that Nelson has roading areas like this now. Visitors coming into Nelson, especially via the airport and travelling out to Richmond, would notice them; the roundabout at the end of Whakatu Drive and Richmond Deviation being No. 1 worst of the lot and bottom of Nayland Road area being 2nd. I think Waka Kotahi and their contractor need to give an explanation as to why they have failed to maintain these roundabouts. Why they have let them fall to the state they are in now. We need to see some action on these areas and have them brought back to what they used to look like, something that is pleasing to the eye. Does the contract of their care need to be given to another company who will actually get them back up to their former well-maintained look? Maybe new planting needs to be put in and everything pulled out, as there are a lot of weeds in there that have seeded into the soil making it problematic for weed-free upkeep. R Evans

Ancient Kauri centrepiece of exhibition Staff Reporter A 45,000-year-old piece of swamp Kauri is now on display as the centrepiece of an exhibition at Purpose Gallery in Māpua. The piece, part of the gallery’s ‘Manifest’ exhibition is more than two metres long and nearly half a metre wide. The swamp Kauri has been polished and sculpted by master carver Paul Olson. Paul says he uses wood, because it is a material that everyone can relate to, a living part of our heritage in Aotearoa. Purpose Gallery owner and artist curator, Roisin King, says she will never forget the first moment she saw Paul’s work. “I was overwhelmed with emotion and then a deep certainty arrived that we were meant to be as a team.” She says the work is a story

about witnessing loved ones and the beauty of love, family, friends and the strength of community. Paul’s career started sweeping floors when he was a teenager, creating a strange form of apprenticeship. He also was welcomed into famed artist Ralph Hotere’s close circle. “I was 15 or 16 when I first met them all. I was really lucky to be introduced straight away,” Paul says. “Hone Tuwhare and Cilla McQueen would spend many months writing their poetry. “Ralph, he didn't talk much about his work, but you could tell when he was about to start work. The feeling in the air would change. “He changed and he went into a place that only another artist would recognise.” Paul says that he has spent a lifetime since then searching for his artistic voice.

“I’m finally content that I am on the right path. “I have found my heritage and I’m ready to take my work to the next level commercially.” He says he wants to constantly keep challenging himself to create “the impossible”. “I have no issues with a creative block. My head is full of thousands of projects and there is no limit to those ideas.” Paul gets up at 5.30am every day and works till midnight until a piece is finished. Sometimes he doesn't eat, explaining that everything else in life disappears. With pieces that size and complexity, he can disappear for months. “It’s where you need to go to give the work justice.” Paul’s exhibition ‘Manifest’ will be on display at Purpose Gallery until 28 February.

Max Frethey The Nelson Youth Theatre Company is putting on a production of the classic fairytale musical ‘Into the Woods JR’ at the end of January at the Theatre Royal in Nelson. Director Richard Carruthers says the performance will be the culmination of three months of hard work by the company, and their first production of 2022. After an “extended break” brought about by the most recent nationwide lockdown in August, the Youth Theatre company is “rearing to go,” Richard says. “[The performers] are excited to get back on stage again.” Richard says the group have never done a production in January before, so it was “a bit of a risk”. He was unsure whether a January show would bring in many people over the school holiday season or if they would be busy with other summer endeavours. Tickets are on sale now for the show which will run from 26 - 29 January and will feature, among others, the

Into the Woods JR offers a cautionary tale: be careful

what you wish for. The hour-long story follows the plight of a baker and his wife who wish for a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the king’s festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give some milk. However, a happily ever after is not necessarily guaran-

Our auction, which was organised by Rae Peattie and Judy Thomason, raised $778.00 for Nelson Tasman Hospice. Thanks to Sioux Line Dance team. How to make your home presentable for buyers The spring-summer season is often the ideal time to put your home on the market, but before you do, you will want to get your place looking as presentable as possible. “There’s nothing worse than prospective buyers rocking up to look at your house and their first impression is grass growing out of the gutters or lichen on the roof or moss growing out of the steps that lead to your front door,” says Mark Forbes who co-owns Manor Property Services Ltd with Andy Dumville. Mark says there’s lots of ways you can make your home presentable. “For properties that don’t have the street appeal they could have, there are lots of things you can do that won’t break the bank but will give your property the look of a well-maintained home. It could be as simple as a house wash, gutter clear, roof treatment and grounds work; that can be anything from arborists trimming trees and shaping shrubs to exposing edges of the lawns and tidying up overgrown gardens.” Mark says most gardens have edges, whether it’s brick or rock or timber borders, and when they are exposed it makes the property look tidy and complements the house. “It’s more of a ‘wow’ rather than ‘oh dear – it looks like there hasn’t been any maintenance here for a while.’ Rather than have buyers saying, ‘I’m not so sure about this property,’ having the work done takes away all those objections on

first impressions that we know are so important,” he says. Spring is the busiest time of year for Manor Property Services. “Even if people aren’t putting their home on the market, it is the season when homeowners get a lot of work done by us. During winter, moss and lichen build up which is pretty unsightly and damages the surfaces of the underlying materials, whether it’s cladding or roofing. It’s all to do with maintenance and protecting your investment.” One stop shop for property maintenance Manor Property Services offer a wide range of services including: house wash, gutter clean, roof treatment, tree work, gardening, arborist work, rubbish removal, house cleaning, windows, carpet, water blasting pathways and driveways, painting and decorating, asbestos removal, cabinetry, joinery and general carpentry renovations and repairs. With MPS, you only need to make one phone call to get everything done, because it’s a one-stop shop. No need to contact multiple trades or service providers; one phone call, one invoice, it’s that easy. To make a booking or obtain a quote, visit www.mpsnelson.co.nz or phone 0800 677 005. Nishan’s journey from Nepal to Nelson Jonty Dine

Nishan Biswa will suit up for Nelson Suburbs this season. Photo: Jonty Dine.

Reporter

jonty@nelsonweekly.co.nz jonty@nelsonweekly.co.nz

Hardened by his experience playing on the streets of Nepal, Nishan Biswa says he relishes the physical side of football. The 20-year-old striker has been recruited by Nelson Suburbs after three successful seasons with Nomads in Christchurch. With family members already based in Nelson, Nishan has made the move to continue his promising career. Growing up in an isolated village in Nepal, Nishan’s father would have to cycle two hours a day to get himself to school or work. Not wanting his children to endure such hardships for education, he opted to move the family to New Zealand when Nishan was 12. “They wanted a better future for us,” he says. “It was pretty exciting, but sad to leave some of my friends and family behind.” Nishan admits he had very little knowledge about the structured game after playing all his football on his village streets. “I would play footy every day, but I didn’t know anything about the rules or the positions.”

However, it didn’t take him long to adapt as he quickly garnered the attention of local rep coaches. After just a year, Nishan received an invitation to trial for the Canterbury Dragons youth side. Nomads coach Andy Pitman

asked Nishan to join Nomads when he was just 17. There, he scored 10 goals in 10 games during his first season. He credits the hours spent in Nepal honing his skills for the rapid ascent in the game.

“When I was young, every day after school and lunch time it was just football, football, football.” He says it was also on the streets of Nepal that he learnt not to take a backward step. “I’m super aggressive, I don’t

mind the rough game.” Though he hasn’t lost at Saxton Field in his two previous visits, Nishan will be hoping for a better result when he takes the pitch for Suburbs after being red carded during his last match in Nelson.

2013. He coached Tasman B in 2018 and has been a Mako assistant coach for the past three seasons. Tasman Rugby Union CEO Lyndon Bray was thrilled with the new coaching team. He was particularly happy with the fact they would offer “great continuity from within the previous coaching group”. “Those two have been fully involved as assistant coaches … they have been part of our development pathway for a few years now. “I’m just excited that we don’t have to go outside the region to try and find someone. “I think it’s great for the players and our management group and our staff that we have that continuity of approach around the Mako.” He also suggested that given

the Mako success in recent years it was doubly important to maintain the culture that has been built up. “[Gray and Dan] are two different personalities, with different strengths … I think they will make a really good partnership. Lyndon said a big focus of the union’s work at the moment was connecting back into community rugby. He said a particular focus will be on building the health and strength of the clubs. “[It’s] exciting for the clubs, from a rugby standpoint, to have two [Mako] coaches on the ground, one in Blenheim one in Nelson, who will be able to spend a lot of time in club rugby. “That will be a huge advantage for us.”

Swimming: Hayden Squance cruised to his sixth win in race nine of the Rylock swim series in Nelson harbour on Thursday, but there were changes in the established order back in the field. Peter Burrell scored an upset, taking second place from Terry Bone. Peter’s best place so far this season is fourth, so it’s a significant result for him. After winning race one in the women’s section, Emily Chadderton has had to wait eight weeks for a repeat, a result which puts her back at the top of the points table. In race nine over a 1200m course, swimmers had to battle an incoming tide over the first 600m, with the wind from the opposite direction kicking up bigger waves as the race went on. In the short course, Keshia Linyard won from Keisha Old, continuing their backand-forth battle. It was Keshia’s second win of the series, taking her to the top of the leaderboard by the narrowest of margins. Rommel Wilson took his first win in the men’s section, placing third overall. Cycling: New Zealand cyclist George Bennett is excited about a packed year ahead with his new pro team, but his schedule won’t include the Commonwealth Games. After seven years with the Dutch Jumbo-Visma team, Bennett has moved to UAE Team Emirates. The 31-year-old started 2022 with a fourthplace finish in last week’s New Zealand Cycle Classic in the Wairarapa. Before heading back to Europe, Bennett will defend his national road title in Cambridge next month. Bennett will train in Nelson and Christchurch over the coming weeks to build up for the nationals and then it will be straight on a plane to the UAE. Bennett has been a professional rider since 2011, winning the Tour of California in 2017. Rowing: Nelson rower Brook Robertson may not have got the Olympic result he was after in 2021 but has kicked off the new year with a win in his hometown. The weather was perfect at Tahuna Beach on January 3 as over 80 rowers from Wanaka to Horowhenua descended on Nelson’s waters for the Club Beach Sprints. Rowers aged 15 to 65 from a range of levels including Brook and Lucy Spoors raced across junior, open and masters’ categories. Results: Mens Club Quad, won by Lucy Spoors, Brook Robertson, Joe Bennion, Ben Mason, coxed by Suzanne Hannen. Womens Club Quad, won by Charlotte Lightfoot, Brook Pitchford, Kyla Otway, Orla Fitzgerals, Cox Amanda Inkster. Mixed Club Quad, won by Brook Pitchford, Reuben Cook, Fred Vavasour, Charlotte Lightfoot, Cox Clare van Eeden Masters Mixed Quad, won by Anton van der Wilt, Matt Barker, Steph Knight, Megan Walklin, Cox Amanda Inkster. Cricket: Waimea Toi Toi United defeated Car Company Stoke/Nayland by four wickets at Jubilee Park on Saturday to keep the traditional powerhouses win-less after two games. Ben Homan’s 46 propelled the visitors to 125/6 off 20 overs, Danny Walsh chipping in with 27 from 19 and Darius Skeaping scoring 30 from 28. It would prove not enough however as Waimea got home in the 19th over with Billy Powick finishing unbeaten on 56 and Parth Nagpal 36 not out.
