Dispute set to cost another $20K Despite another noisy road-side protest by elderly residents of Waimea Village, the owners of the property say they will keep going back to arbitration until they get what they want. This may include going back every year until the residents are forced to pay the $284 per month Michael and Carolyn Wright are seeking, an increase from the current $125, which was up on the $80 per month residents were paying in 2010. More than a thousand people got down and dirty at the annual Sport Tasman Muddy Buddy Adventure Fun Run on the weekend. Participants took to the inlet between Tasman and Kina as they battled boggy mud, cold water and each other over a two-kilometre course. Officially, 1008 people took part, 200 more than last year. It also doubled the number of participants from the event’s first year, thrilling organisers. “That’s the most it’s ever been. It’s definitely growing in leaps and bounds every year and people are just having such a good time,” says Sport Tasman events manager Rita Merriman. Racers, who were paired up, could choose to do one, two or three laps. Those that chose to do the full three laps were easy to spot, although hard to recognise.
