The Sundial stocks aimed at burglars The person who put a set of stocks in Sundial Square, with a sign directed at the “Cargill Place and Beach Rd Burglars” says he just wanted to “put a bit of subtle pressure” on the burglars to return the stolen property and that he won't be taking the law into his own hands. Garrick Steedman, who works for Cargill Place sawmillers Plankville, made the stocks and erected them in Sundial Square early on Thursday morning. He put a sign on the stocks that read: “Dear Cargill Place and Beach Rd Burglars. It's a race between us v the police. Let's hope they get you first... return all our property before we come visiting.” Garrick says the prank was in response to a series of burglaries in Cargill Place and Beach Rd earlier this month. The burglars stole a chainsaw, welder and tools from a container they broke into at Plankville, as well as “hitting” a number of neighbouring businesses. “These criminals have the run of the place and we wanted to let them know that we know who they are and that we aren't happy.
A set of stocks with a sign, directed at burglars who stole equipment from businesses in Cargill Pl and Beach Rd earlier this month. “This isn't the first time it's happened - some of the businesses down here have been hit three or four times in the last year. The stocks got a pretty good reaction. We even had a couple of calls afterwards from people telling us who did it and we've also been told that the person who did it saw the stocks.” They had relayed all that information to the police and were now hoping the burglars would return the stolen equipment. The stocks and signs were removed by council contractors on Thursday.

Easter egg hunt a good start to school holidays A hunt for Easter eggs and bunnies at Gardens of the World was a big success on Sunday morning, despite the wet weather. Dozens of families visited the gardens in Hope, with the hope of finding some sweet treats and other spot prizes. Children had to look for little soft toys hidden around the facility, which they could then swap for the prizes. The long Easter weekend also marked the start of the school holidays for students.
