Top of the hospitality industry The Wooden Spoon Cafe in Richmond and Neil Ward from The Cellar Door Restaurant and Cafe at Waimea Estates were the Tasman district’s top performers at the New Zealand King Salmon Nelson Hospitality Awards, held at the Rutherford Hotel in Nelson on Monday night. Neil was voted as the Best Head Chef while The Wooden Spoon won the Best Cafe category at the awards which are held every two years to recognise the Nelson-Tasman region’s top restaurants, bars, baristas and chefs. The winners are decided by a panel of judges and public voting, and The Wooden Spoon’s owners Craig and Nicky Woodbury say their win is a reflection of the loyalty of their customers. “Our customers tell us every day that they like our cafe and so we are really pleased they showed their support by voting for us,” Nicky says.
