A huge post-lockdown backlog of freight and packages is creating headaches for local businesses
who need supplies and parts, but your local courier is not to blame. Weeks’ worth of backlogs from Alert Levels 4 and 3 are causing delays across the country, including in the Tasman region, where locals and businesses are waiting upwards of 2 weeks for deliveries
that in the past would have been overnight. Grant Blanchett from Stihl Shop in Richmond says that overnight freight is taking up to two weeks. “We’ve been having issues with parts. It’s mainly things coming from Auckland. “
Grant says that pre-lockdown they could order a part and have it in store the next day. Now, they are waiting nearly 14 days. Grant says that there is a flow-on effect. “We’re running out of storage space as well. Normally we get a
part and then it is out right away. Now gear is sitting in the workshop taking up space, it’s slowing people down.” “You can’t get upset with the local courier. It’s the fact that the
