The Tasman region has done an ‘outstanding job’ throughout the lockdown, says Tasman mayor Tim King. “I really think the results in terms of our case numbers speak for themselves, in terms of how well we have done.” Tim says he has seen a lot of supportive messages from people in the community in terms of the collective response. He said there are two sides to remember, and that although the region has done well during the lockdown, a lot of people and small businesses in the community are concerned about their future. “There is an appreciation around how well we have done but there are massive economic implications, and there is concern for small businesses, especially around tourism and hospitality.” Tim says that the region’s essential workers have been ‘standout.’ “The region’s essential workers have really stood out. People working at supermarkets, in agriculture and horticulture, medical personal, transport operators, the list goes on. These people have worked hard to keep the region supplied and running, and they deserve a huge amount of our respect.” Tim says that, as we move into level 3 today, we need to keep a focus on supporting local businesses. “All of these local businesses have always helped our community out,” Tim says. “A lot of them have sponsored sports teams, given to community groups. This is our chance as a community to do
