Marching through the memories Jo Kent Coming away with a top South Island marching award was more than just another win for Angela Miller. The “Champion Display” win for the Empire squad also became a reunion of old friends to honour the memory of their coach, Shelley Palmer, who died suddenly from cancer, aged 50. “I’ve been marching my entire life off and on,” Angela says. “From around 2000, I marched in a Christchurch team called McVicar with Shelley Palmer as the coach. Over the next four years, she led us to become Champion NZ Team, not once but twice.” When Angela moved back to Nelson, she carried on marching with a local team but still had a few seasons travelling back to Christchurch to march with

Rachel Boyack reflects on ‘difficult’ year in politics Erin Bradnock Nelson’s Labour MP Rachel Boyack says she has been reflecting on the highs and lows of a “difficult” political year. On top of Three Waters, housing and Parliament culture, the ongoing impacts of Covid-19 are front of Rachel’s mind after a divisive political year. “Covid has been one of the toughest parts of the role,” she says. “It has been a tough year for absolutely everybody, I don’t think there’s anyone I met who hasn’t been affected by it.” In response, vaccination mandates have been a source of national and local outrage with protestors streaming down Nelson’s main streets in November. Rachel views Nelson’s late November outbreak as exemplifying the need for mandates. “We’ve seen the benefit of the vaccinate mandates in our schools. In the two schools where there were cases, because the teachers were vaccinated, that stopped it becoming a super spreader event. “I know that there are children there who could’ve suffered significant health problems if they had caught the virus.” Rachel says the community’s high vaccination rate, the quick

Rachel admits that Covid-19 hindered the Government’s ability to communicate other controversial issues like the Three Waters reform, which also led to protests in the region. “It’s an issue that, to be honest, if we hadn’t been stuck in lockdowns, we would’ve been able to have some good public meetings on and it is something absolutely we are looking at doing in the new year,” she says. Rachel stands firm in her support of the Three Waters Reform ahead of public consultations that will be going ahead next year. “One of my frustrations with

this is that the councils that stand to benefit from this the most are also some of the ones pushing back on it,” she says. Alongside public consultation on Three Waters, addressing housing shortages in the region is a priority for Rachel. After opening six new homes earlier this month, the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust has a goal of 100 new homes over the next five years. The Resource Management Bill was passed into law on December 14, aimed at unlocking more housing in our growing cities. Councils, like Nelson and Tasman, may opt in to implement the medium density standards if the Ministers of housing and environment consider there is the need.

Richmond market day is going ahead Jo Kent Reporter

jo@waimeaweekly.co.nz

The annual Queen Street takeover has been given the go-ahead, after much chopping and changing of plans to fit in with the new Covid traffic light system. The market is one of the most diverse of its kind in the Top of the South and sees more than 100 sellers from across the country pitching up to showcase their products. Event co-ordinator Sheena Murtagh says, with so much choice the market is a great day out for both browsers and serious buyers. “There’s a great mix of local sellers and a few from further afield with a variety of offerings, so it ticks a lot of boxes for all sorts of people.” The event will run from 9am to 3pm, unless the region has moved to ‘red’ in which case it will be cancelled. “We got advice from local gov-

place.” Those include mandatory mask wearing, unless an exemption can

be presented. Visitors will have to sign or scan in, although no vaccine passport is necessary.

“We won’t be providing tables and chairs to people to eat at this year, and it’s encouraged people move away from the vendors to eat their food as it’s felt this is where there could be additional risk.” The usual family entertainment for children will also be scaled back significantly to avoid overcrowding. “We’ll still have buskers and performers, but they will have to adhere to the 1m distancing rule, so it will be more structured than previous years.” With so many cancelled events in the region, Sheena says she’s just happy the market can go ahead. “It’s a shame about the lack of games and seating as it will detract from the overall festive market day atmosphere, but the feedback so far has been really positive as people are just pleased we’re able to run in the current climate.” For updates, go to richmondun limited.co.nz.

It’s been a sunny, windy, wet year Jenny Nicholson Reporter

jennifer@waimeaweekly.co.nz

At the end of November, the wider Nelson area was still one of the sunniest spots in the country. NIWA statistics show Nelson coming in second equal with Marlborough with 2,317 sunshine hours, with Taranaki leading the way with 2,368 hours. November’s dry weather saw the region overtake Hawke’s Bay and catch up with Marlborough in sunshine hours. November 30th saw the minimum air temperature sit at

17.4, the fourth highest since records began in 1862. Despite still holding a high spot as one of the top sunshine areas in New Zealand, Tasman District Council weather statistics showed Richmond’s sunshine hours were lower than average most months in 2021. The early part of this month saw very low sunshine hours with just 84 recorded as of 18 December. To reach the mean sunshine hours for December, there would need to be over 13 hours of sunshine each day until the 31st. Richmond was dryer than average in November, and mean

temperatures from April to November were higher than average. If you thought this year has been wet, you are right. As of 20 December 2021, there had been 1106.8 mm of rain fall at the Racecourse in Richmond, compared to the annual average of 961mm. December has contributed 93.4mm of that with 50mm falling in the week ending 20 December. July and August were also wetter than average. The wind measured on the TDC roof shows that at the end of November the year had been slightly windier than average.

Return of the Classic Motorcycle Show The Nelson Classic and Vintage Motorcycle Club bike show has become a New Year feature in the region and will be back again for 2022. The show will be held on Saturday, 1 January and Sunday, 2 January in the badminton hall at Jubilee Park in Richmond. The show is a display of club members’ bikes and as new ones are acquired there is always something interesting to see. There will be the well-known brands on display like Triumph and BSA plus some rarer machines from Europe and the USA. Doors open from 9am and entry is $5 for adults or free for kids. All the usual safety requirements will be followed.

A Guzzi motorcycle on display at last year’s Nelson Classic and Vintage Motorcycle Club.

Kyla Mehrtens says she has always wanted to help children in need. Last year, when her class topic was ‘Change Makers’, looking at children who changed the world, she and Juliet Thompson-Blythe, 13, got talking about what they could do to help others in the world.

Out of that came a project that saw Room 21 at Waimea Intermediate School sewing bags and filling them with stationery for students overseas who were not able to afford some of the basics like rulers, pens and pencils. “When we first talked about it, I thought ‘wow, it would be great to be able to do this’,” says 12-year-old Kyla. The project has taken two

years, but the bags are mostly made and have been filled ready to send. A casual clothing day in 2021 raised about $500 which has been used to buy both the fabric for the bags and the stationery. Juliet ThompsonBlythe’s aunt met someone who knew some Anglican nuns in Christchurch. The nuns go between Christchurch and the Pacific Islands.

Juliet has organised for them to take the bags to schools in Tonga and Fiji. “We have only just found people who can take them,” Juliet says. “That is a relief.” Juliet says they wanted to start small so it would be manageable, but hopes that this will just be the start. “I would love to do it again next year,” she says. “Maybe even to Africa and Asia.”

Happy new year! Thank you for all your support and love this year. We look forward to serving you next year and more!

Drones, model aircrafts and kites make great Christmas presents, but if you aren’t familiar with the rules of flying there is potential for things to go very wrong.

We want everyone to enjoy their unmanned aircraft this summer and we also want everyone to be safe, especially when around electricity. Flying drones, model aircraft and kites close to power lines can quickly ruin the fun and put people and property at risk. Model aircrafts, kites or drones touching power lines or equipment can risk causing a flashover, explosion, fire or electrocution. Flying too close to power lines won’t just damage your aircraft, it can ruin Christmas for those affected by the risk of a power cut. Remember, judging distance from the ground or via an onboard camera is difficult and it does not provide an accurate measurement. Here’s what you need to do to help you stay safe:

z

Fly drones and model craft in clear, calm weather when it is easier to see them and keep them under control

z

Only fly your aircraft during daylight hours

z

If your aircraft becomes entangled in power lines or electrical equipment, or flies into a substation, phone us on 0800 508 100. We will safely retrieve it for you. The team who work on and around our lines are trained to enter these facilities safely and are on call to help.

Have fun and play safely this summer!

What made news

Snippets from what made news in the Waimea Weekly this year COVID-19: As Covid-19 affected everyone again in 2021, we covered news of the lockdown, vaccination clinics being set up, and the disruption to schooling and sports. We looked at the struggle some in the business and arts sectors faced during lockdown and at the different alert levels. Amidst the challenging times, people stepped up and we interviewed those offering kindness to other locals. Vaccine mandates were introduced and in December we moved to the new traffic light system. ROADING: Several roading stories featured this year. A group of Wakefield residents raised concerns about the adequacy of Wakefield pedestrian crossings. Having campaigned for a year they celebrated the decision to widen the pedestrian refuge on Arrow Street. In November, the Meadows Crossing officially opened, connecting the two halves of the Richmond West Development. As the Richmond West development continued, congestion on Lower Queen Street was an issue, with a land purchase delay putting a planned upgrade on hold for at least 12 months. Locals were invited to have their say on changes to Rich-

mond Streets as the Tasman District Council looked at transforming some streets into ‘neighbourhood greenways’ in an attempt to make roads safer and to decrease parking issues. HOUSING: Many in the region struggled to buy a home this year with the house price median reaching $900,000 in the Tasman region in October. Real Estate agents spoke of multiple offers being made on houses. Meanwhile, the Tasman District Council approved 2000 new homes in the Richmond South area. There was a shortage of rentals, with multiple people applying for many listings. RURAL NEWS: This year the Waimea Weekly added a monthly Rural News section to the paper. We covered the devastation from flooding that some local farmers faced in July, along with the kindness of volunteers who helped with the clean-up. Farmers’ frustrations led to tractors taking to the streets for the Groundswell Protests. Farmers were protesting government legislation including the Three Waters Reform and Significant Natural Area poli-

cies. NICK SMITH RETIRES: After 30 years representing the region, National MP Nick Smith retired from Parliament on June 10, 2021. Nick, who lost the Nelson seat at the 2020 election to Labour’s Rachel Boyack, says he decided to retire for personal and professional reasons, including a Parliamentary Services inquiry into an employment issue. WAIMEA DAM: In March we reported the Waimea Dam project had blown out a further $29 million, leaving the total cost at more than double the 2017 estimate of $75.9 million as contractors had to deal with the fallout from Covid-19 and geological curve balls. In June, an independent investigation was launched into events that led to the Tasman District Council’s decisionmaking process over the dam. The report recently received by TDC found the information provided to Council was’ generally robust’ and decisions were appropriate. “The investigation found no evidence of impropriety, hasty or uninformed decision-making or any conflicts of interest,” says Tasman mayor Tim King.

Harry and Ruby always deliver Jonty Dine Harry and Ruby Oliver are so dedicated to their paper deliveries, the pair has missed just one day between them in almost six years. Only a school camp prevented Ruby from her route, which Harry, of course, happily picked up. The siblings are also super savers, with Harry nestling away enough to buy himself a $1500 bike while Ruby managed to shout herself a new iPhone. Harry, 15, says he was motivated to pick up the paper route in order to earn some money, while Ruby, 13, was looking to alleviate her boredom and get paid while do-

ing it. Even in pouring rain, the pair persist in delivering to Queen St and businesses on Gladstone Rd in Richmond. “We just put up with it, it’s only an hour or two and it’s flat as can be, so it’s pretty easy.” Both received a double pass to State Cinema in Nelson for their ongoing commitment, but are undecided on what they will see. “I hear the new Spiderman is out.” Mother Megan says it’s a fantastic learning experience for her children. “Sometimes they don’t feel like doing it, but that’s how they earn their money.”

As Harbourmasters the biggest part of our job is to help to prevent maritime accidents and incidents, but if things do go bad, we, along with other agencies, are also there to help. Every year there are lots of lessons learnt from assisting with accidents and incidents. One of the most important things I can pass on to boaties is that when something goes wrong, it goes wrong fast and there is not much point in, for example, having lifejackets under boat seats if the boat sinks. Also, in the last few years we have seen an increasing number of people getting into trouble in their small 10-foot dinghys. The trouble with these boats is they can easily be swamped by waves, and they also don’t usually have much reserve buoyancy. So, what-ever boat you are on it is very important to wear lifejackets and to carry at least two forms of communication so that you can get help. Local knowledge is also essential for safe boating and anyone going out on the water in Tasman should also pick up a copy of our free Tasman District Council Boating and Water Sports Brochure. This has a lot of relevant information, including six months of tide tables. It is available at Tasman boat ramps and from TDC offices in Richmond, Motueka, Murchison and Takaka. We are also noticing a lot of people out there who are new to boating,

if you are new to boating consider joining a boat club to benefit from the experience of others. All boaties should know that just like out on the region’s roads there are a lot of rules out on the water, but the rules are common-sense, and they are in place to make everyone safer. Along with central government boating safety rules, Harbourmasters also have additional navigation safety bylaws to help keep people safe in their respective districts. It is very important that people have an understanding of the bylaws that apply in each region. The Tasman District Council bylaw can be found at https://www. tasman.govt.nz/my-region/recreation/boating-and-fishing/. One particularly important rule is to make sure you slow down to 5 knots near shore (within 200m) as this gives a safe zone for swimmers, kayakers etc, but also for your own vessel as there are a lot of near-shore rocks in the Abel Tasman and the consequences of hitting these at speed would be catastrophic. Also know that the 200 metre, 5 knots speed rule applies around any structures and divers blue and white dive flags. The speed limit is 3 knots in marinas and anchorages such as inside Adele Island and Anchorage Bay, and this is to make travel safer in congested areas and also to reduce wake that would otherwise impact on the anchored vessels. We have a system of buoys in place throughout the district which help to direct boating traffic, and again the best guidance for this can be found in our boating and water sports brochure. Have a great summer on the water and please remember to follow the rules to keep everyone safe!

Local History exploring our

Campbell family history John Cretney Alan Le Grand Campbell did not work after he retired from the British Army. He spent his time maintaining the property and raising a family. He was also a keen dog breeder, with a special interest in white English bull terriers. In 1936 he introduced this breed to New Zealand by importing a pair from Britain for breeding. In 1938, soon after moving to Nelson, he built kennels on the property that can be seen in later photographs. When the war came, Alan was called up for war duty in 1939 and sent to Burnham at two days notice. There was an urgency to ensure that his Highland tartan uniform was in order. His trews (tartan trousers) needed to be let out, but

the local tailors failed to match the tartan properly so wife Barbara had to unpick and restitch the gussets late into the night before he left. He trained the first battalion before it departed and was to go overseas with the second battalion. That unit was recruited from around the South Island and earned a fearsome reputation on the battlefields of Greece, North Africa and Italy, and was known as the famed A Company (the 1st Canterbury Company). At that stage, heart trouble was identified which had originated from his glandular fever health problems in WW1. He was therefore invalided out by 1942 much to his disappointment and had to be content with home guard duty. This work took him around the whole district so

When moves were made to sell it, the society whipped around its members and bought the theatre using debentures that were all paid back within five years because of revenues from successful productions. Captain Campbell also became involved and was also a good actor focusing on comedy roles of an Oliver Hardy style to whom he bore some resemblance. One of his characters, Mr Barrat, became the name of the family cat. Productions were often followed by great parties at Aberuchill where local orchestra leader Clarrie Lee entertained on the piano in the dining room. Hogmanay parties were always held on New Year’s Eve – a Scottish tradition. There could be up to a 100 people invited from all over Nelson and the parties often went till 3am.

While away, his dog breeding was discontinued and the dogs sold apart from one. However, this expanded to two after one new owner couldn’t cope with the challenge of a bull terrier. A major interest of the Campbells

was repertory theatre. Barbara had been involved in professional acting while in Glasgow and was a good actress. In Nelson she became active in the Nelson Repertory Society led by photographer A R Kingsford. In the early 1940s, the society used the Theatre Royal extensive-

Tomas receives too many trophies to hold Jenny Nicholson Tomas Girodo couldn’t hold all the cups and trophies he was awarded as he finished his time at Tapawera Area School. Originally from Argentina, Spanish is still Tomas’s first language, but that didn’t hold him back in his studies. English teacher Tracey Mytton says Tomas is very driven and dedicated. His hard work paid off with him named Tapawera Area

School dux for 2021. In 2018, when his family arrived in New Zealand, Tomas didn’t speak any English. “For the first six months I was embarrassed by my accent and the mistakes I made,” he says. “But then I just had to try.” Tracey says she remembers him soon after he arrived at Tapawera Area School in August 2019. “We do kapa haka as a whole

school and I think it was culture shock for him,” she says. “He just stood there looking baffled. But then he found his feet and joined in.” She says Tomas took every opportunity to be involved at school and this was reflected in him winning the Citizenship Award, which is given to the best all round year 13 student. He was top student in mathematics, physical education and visual art

painting and received awards for effort in both English and Spanish. He also won the volleyball award for contribution to the school and badges for both sport and service to others. He was part of the magazine team and coached a year 7 and 8 volleyball team. Tomas found big differences in the education here from his village in Argentina. “I found the idea of choosing subjects different,” he says.

The views from Parachute Rock are worth the effort it takes to climb the hill. Photo: Jenny Nicholson.

Things to do in the region Walks Jenny Nicholson Rabbit Island Starting at the western end of the Rabbit Island road, this walk is flat and can take you through the trees to the end of the beach. At that point there is the option of catching the ferry over to Mapua for a coffee. The walk back is the way you came or along the beach. Richmond Hills If you are short on time but want a

good walk with nice views, a trek up the Jimmy Lee Creek Track to Grassy Saddle and down into Will’s Gully is an option. Starting on Hill Street not far from the Kihilla Road intersection, the track zig zags up through native trees and down via Fossil Steps, ending near Hart Road. Then it’s a quick walk back to the start. The walk can be extended by continuing up from Grassy Saddle to the top of the hill, then returning down the same way. Fossil Steps are aptly named for the fossils that can be found there.

This walk is classed as moderate and will probably take about an hour. Kawatiri Tunnel Walkway This easy walk, an hour from Nelson and 30 minutes from Murchison, takes you through the historic Kawatiri Rail Tunnel that was built 98 years ago. The car park is on the left side of the road, 77 km southwest of Nelson and 35 km northeast of Murchison. While you can walk the tunnel without a torch, it is recommended to take one to avoid

puddles, and see cyclists who share the tunnel. Once you reach the northern end of the tunnel, you return the way you came. Lake Rotoiti There are multiple options for walks near Lake Rotoiti from short walks to overnights. A popular walk is to Whisky Falls which begins on Mount Robert Road 1.8 km beyond the West Bay jetty. Classed as moderate difficulty, the track is 10.9 km return and time required is about 4 hours. The falls are a short detour

Rabbit Island Rabbit Island is about 15 minutes from Richmond and is one of two swimming beaches in the Nelson Tasman region. Tahuna Beach is the other and is about 20 minutes from Richmond. You can fill the day at Rabbit Island and enjoy a barbeque or picnic, or a game of cricket with friends after your swim. There are plenty of trees to provide shade on sunny days.

Silvan Forest, Richmond For some of the best mountainbiking in the Top of the South, look no further than Richmond’s Silvan Forest. With 170 hectares of private forest, this network of fun, safe trails with well-graded single track offers multiple options for intermediate and advanced riders. Join at Champion Road, Richmond. Conifer Park, Rabbit Island Conifer Park is family friendly and located at the western end of the Rabbit Island Front Beach Reserve. From Ken Beck Drive turn left on to Cooper Road, which soon becomes gravel, and continue to the Conifer Park entrance. Conifer Park contains a 2km formed grade 2 beginners mountainbike track, which turns and twists among the pine trees. Continuing on in the forest from Conifer Park is the marked Moturoa Forest Track. off the main track to Cold Water Hut. There is the option to continue on to the hut for the night. The next day there is the choice to walk out from the hut the same way you came in, continue on around the lake, hike 15 km to John Tait Hut, or boat out from the jetty. Parachute Rock Another option at the lake is a day walk up Parachute Rock which leaves from the lakeside. This 10.9 km return trail is classified as difficult.

I was fortunate enough to be part of a group who headed up to D’Urville Island for a weekend of kayak fishing. Weather wise it was hit and miss but we managed to get out a few times to explore a little. The last day we caught a lucky break and the wind was down enough to head out at 5am. It was all fun and games until I pulled up a fat and feisty fella. As I went to bleed him through the gills, he managed to flop right over, flipping my knife in the process, causing it to slice right above the top of my thumb knuckle. I dropped my line back down, still hoping for a snapper but even after applying pressure with a cloth strip I kept bleeding everywhere, including over my reels. Time for a slow sensible paddle back to camp to clean up. I was about halfway back when I noticed the 2 orange Stealths on the water, heading towards me, which was a bit odd. So, I changed course to meet up with them, announcing my war wound since I probably looked like a bit of a wally holding one thumb out straight as I paddled. “Head straight to shore” was the response. “Well, it’s not that bad but ok” I thought to myself – he

Brought to you by:

was after all the more experienced kayak fisher. It was on the shore where I started to figure out how different my experience was to what they saw. They knew there was a strong current running through there, saw I was not making as much ground as I ordinarily would so to them it looked as though I was stuck trying to paddle against the current. Being much stronger paddlers, they decided to paddle out and give me a hand (but not a thumb sadly). We talk a lot about safety on the water but we so often overlook the very people we are with – while this was just a cut slowing me down, it could have been something far more serious in their eyes – your choice of companions may just turn out to be the difference between life and death on the water.

A rivalry for the ages

Though the season was cut short, Nelson’s top two netball sides once again showed how little separates them following two nail-biting clashes in 2021. The first meeting saw a solitary point the difference after Prices survived a furious late comeback. After trailing the first two quarters, Prices pulled out to a four-goal lead with five minutes remaining and held its nerve to win yet another classic clash. The ledger was squared following another epic showdown and once again it was just single goal that separated them. Jacks exacted its revenge with a 42-41 win and ended Prices’ eightmatch unbeaten streak in the process.

Richmond Athletic won the Nelson Bays Football first division in 2021.

Richmond shock Rangers

Richmond won the 2021 Nelson division one football championship after edging past Rangers AFC 1-0 at the Renwick Domain. Defending champions Rangers had set the pace all season and went into the final round-robin match tied on points with Richmond, but with a better goal differential. That meant a win or draw would have handed the home side back-to-back titles. The deciding goal came around the 75th minute as Rangers lost the ball in midfield where it was picked up by substitute Lee Merrion. His low shot struck the home side’s post, ricocheting off a Rangers’ player and into the net.

The Prices v Jacks rivalry extended through the 2021 netball season.

Bennett breaks his hoodoo

Nelson cyclist George Bennett claimed his first national road race title in February, soloing to victory at the New Zealand championships in Cambridge. The JumboVisma rider ended up winning by nearly two minutes, but it was a hard-earned title as he attacked repeatedly before finally breaking free with 8km to go. George previously finished runner-up behind Hayden Roulston in 2013 and behind Shane Archbold last year, and he also tasted silver in the time trial on the Friday.

It is one of the most prestigious competitions in New Zealand secondary schools sport. At Maadi, 35 Nelson rowers representing Nelson College, Nelson College for Girls and Waimea College returned with one gold and two silver medals. Top honours went to Ollie Ransom and Rico Fraser from Nelson College for taking the gold in the Boys U18 Double Sculls in a convincing win. Capping an unprecedented season of success, Nelson was named the best rowing club in the country.

Mako come agonisingly close

The Tasman Mako had its quest for a hattrick of titles foiled at the hands of Waikato in November, going down in the Premiership final 23-20, in a thriller. It began with a fairytale season, an unbeaten run to an inaugural premiership title in 2019. The Mako followed this up with a gritty effort against a highly-favoured Auckland side to go back-to-back last season. However, a third consecutive crown has eluded the side in a season where the squad was ravaged by injury and depleted through All Blacks duty.

in Nelson this season. American imports Hunter Hale and Donte Ingram were again among the chief destroyers, but it was a local leading the way for Nelson with Nic Trathen racking up 24 points, three rebounds, and two assists. After 100 games, Tom is hopeful to play 100 more and of breaking a 14-year championship drought.

Mika calls time

One of the greatest to have ever worn the black singlet, Mika Vukona, called time on his career after a 16-year stint in the Tall Blacks. Mika retired from international basketball after a typically selfless display of love and commitment to his country. Throughout his epic career, Mika was highly respected by both Nelson Giant and Tall Black supporters.

The husband and wife enjoyed a superb season on the track which was rewarded with a slew of silverware at 2021’s prizegiving. Nelson won the coveted trophy for a twelfth time after playing out a draw with Canterbury Country at Mainpower Oval at the end of January. Centuries from Nic Clarke (172) and Joseph O’Connor (120) helped the Griffins post a daunting total of 365 in its first innings. It looked as if Nelson would make easy work of Canterbury’s line-up, with the cup holders struggling to 162-8 before the tail well and truly wagged. Zak Foulkes grinded his way to 92 from 255 balls, backed up by his number ten Fraser Sheat with 76. Thomas Zohrab eventually made a double breakthrough as he took 4/48 to dismiss the hosts for 325.
