Supercross set for swift return Jacob Page
One of New Zealand’s best tracks will roar back to life after nine years with the Armstrong Nelson Supercross Championships next weekend. The track on Central Road at
Lower Moutere has had extensive work on it over the past few months and Nelson Motorcycle Club President Phil Prentice says it is the start of something big on December 14 and 15. “It’s been redundant and hasn’t been used for the past nine years
because of resource consent issues,” he says about the track which was overgrown until a matter of months ago. “Once we got it through our committee, we had three months to get the track up to scratch. “It was completely overgrown,”
Phil says. “It was like the Amazon Rain Forest. “Myself, Dan Burrell and Ellie Harvey have been the three main guys but we’ve had riders and the local community get in touch and ask us how they can help make this happen - it’s been amazing.
“Next year we plan to have the national championships here. “We did a questionnaire asking what our riders wanted and what came of that was that they wanted a supercross track.
