Big changes for Richmond streets Jo Kent Reporter

More than 400 Richmond households will have the streets they live on transformed into ‘neigh-
bourhood greenways’ after concerns were raised over road safety. Tasman District Council has earmarked 15 streets for changes that it is hoped will reduce vehicle numbers and lower speeds. Council’s community relations
manager Chris Choat says this could involve a street that is oneway for motor vehicles but allows people to cycle in either direction, via a contra-flow cycle lane or separated path. He says the changes could also include street
closures, speed humps or cushions, and reduced speed limits. Last week the public were invited to a co-design meeting to discuss current problems. Main concerns included the high speeds at which vehicles
travel through neighbourhoods, as well as on-street parking. Some said, with limited parking in Richmond town centre, residential streets were becoming

Going bonkers for books seventeen teams from local colleges competed in the Regional Readers Cup Competition on Monday. Teams of five each read six books over the past few months which they were then questioned on. each person specialised in one or two books. Waimea College’s year nine students Xanthe southward and Isla Hill, where part of the team that won and loved everything about the competition.
