Resounding Success for JP Service Centres
Metlifecare Oakwoods resident Gwen Thompson waters the daffodils in her garden. Spring officially started this month and there is no better way to celebrate the warmth and sun by getting stuck into the garden.
Since the beginning of July, members of the Nelson Bays Justices of the Peace Association have provided JP services on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12 noon at the Nelson Public Library and Richmond Mall. The response from the public has been extremely positive – so much so that there have been times when people have been waiting in a queue for the JPs to arrive. This service not only makes access to a JP very easy for members of the public, but is also raising the profile of Justices of the Peace and helping the community to better understand the services offered. The photo shows Justices of the Peace Terry Byrne and Graeme Smith attending to a client at the Richmond Mall. Justices of the Peace are statutory (Crown) appointees, and provide their services absolutely free of charge. They are empowered to witness declarations and affidavits, certify copies of Continued Page 6
