Dane Lett

2019 Award Recipient

Black Stick and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Dane Lett was the winner of the Supreme Award at the 2019 Wairarapa Times-Age Sports’ Awards. After being in the international wilderness for three years Lett was recalled to the Black Sticks in 2017. That led to a long tenure in the silver fern, culminating in being part of the team that won Silver at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April 2018, losing to Australia in the nal. Lett was MVP for the National Hockey League tournament in September 2018, in which he captained the winning Capital Cobras’ side. As well Lett was the player-coach of the Dale eld men’s side that has become a dominant force in the Wellington Premiership. He was integral in the revival of the Wairarapa-based club, which had languished in the bottom echelons of the top Wellington championship for many years. At the time of the 2019 awards Dale eld had won two championships, in 2015 and 2016, and nished runner-up in 2017 and 2018. In November 2018 Lett played in the Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar, India, and was a key component of the team that participated in the inaugural World Hockey Pro League in 2019.
