Blue Hansen

2020-2021 Award Recipient Whether it is his beloved Pioneer Rugby Club, a Wairarapa-Bush representative game, netball, or touch, Blue Hanson is a familiar face around the sports fields and courts. For more than 20 years, Blue has set up the Jeans Street grounds for Pioneer’s premier rugby home games. Then he’s on the side-lines, usually carrying the water bottles, or helping in any way that he can. If he isn’t tied up with the team, he’s often seen handing out sweets to supporters on the sidelines. And then at the end of the day, Blue is there

again, putting everything away for the next game. During the Wai-Bush rep season, Blue is there again helping out with the water and anything else the team need doing. On top of that, for many years, Blue has readied the Colombo Road netball courts for play every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Blue Hansen is your typical down-to-earth sort of bloke who just goes about getting everything organised so players can enjoy their game with no hassles.
