After The Wedding

Just how many people you invite to share your wedding day relates directly to the cost of your catering.

A small wedding is considered around 50 people, a medium 50-150 and a large is over 150 guests. Caterers usually charge per head for food, and this can range from $50 - $150. So, food usually comes down to your budget.

Honouring your guests by feeding them is a tradition in many cultures.

There are many ways to do this and the New Zealand tradition of ‘bring your own’ is gaining favour. Essentially people just want to be there to celebrate with the happy couple and so if it’s bringing along their favourite wine and a plate, many are happy to. Another way to keep costs down is to provide some of the meal, like a spit roast, and get salads and desserts catered for. But for those who do want to cater all food, there’s a wide range of options. Wairarapa has many excellent caterers, some attached to venues and others independent. Dietary requirements is a major consideration and it’s worth checking this carefully with your guests – are they vegetarian, vegan or have food allergies? Children’s requirements are another thing to consider. There’s nothing nicer than making them feel special and most caterers will oblige.
