As O’Brien gets ready to celebrate 50 years of business, we looked back at our history to see what brought us to where we are today. We are proud of our heritage and our accomplishments. We appreciate the commitment of all the employees, team riders and customers, who over the years have helped shape O’Brien into the brand it is today. 3-STAGE ROCKER

Not Your Grandma’s Rocker. Generally, 3-Stage Rocker boards are defined by a flat (or nearly flat) midsection of the board, with the tips kinked upwards at an angle. Because of the kinked bottom shape, 3-Stage Rocker boards tend to be much more aggressive off the wake than continuous boards, with a more straight-up component to the pop. The more abrupt the tip angle, the more kick the board has off the wake – but typically this comes along with more drag and can also make the board “stop” on landings. Again, we know all that, so we make sure our 3-Stage boards ride fast, kick hard, and glide out on landings.

5-STAGE ROCKER 2 better than 3 stage.

We developed the 5-Stage rocker in the quest for a “faster” rocker with a more vertical pop. Characterized by a flatter center and tip curves blended with aggressive transitions, the 5-Stage allows the board to glide with ease and generate massive vertical pop off the wake.

PROGRESSIVE ROCKER Best of Both.

Progressive Rocker is a blend of both Continuous and 3-Stage Rocker. It can be best visualized by imagining a Continuous Rocker board and slightly kinking it towards the tips. The goal of Progressive Rocker is to provide a more vertical pop than the Continuous Rocker with more predictability than 3-Stage Rocker.

CONTINUOUS ROCKER Act Casual...

This type of rocker is defined as the board has a continuous, constant curve along the bottom of the board running the length of the board. Continuous Rocker boards, because of their consistent curve, tend to feel the most predictable on the water & are generally the best for beginning rider as well. As a general rule, boards with less rocker ride faster and with less drag than boards with more rocker. Too little rocker, and the board will punch through the wake, too much rocker and the board will plow through the water like a bowling ball. Ideally, a good continuous rocker is somewhere in-between; so that it rides well & rolls up the wake in a consistent manner. It allows you to reach the height and distance you need to clear the wake. Fortunately, all O’Brien boards with Continuous Rocker lines are designed with this in mind to perform their best in all conditions.

Coming into its second season, The Bruce has exceeded all of our expectations. We knew we had something big when Jeff Langley took this board worldwide, stomping out a name for The Bruce as his weapon of choice. The 5-Stage rocker on The Bruce gives the board incredible glide on the water, carving, releasing, all with a smoothness that exudes style and power in the same movement. The Hoppe brothers of Uddevalla, Sweden share more than a surname. Benjamin, Mattias and Jeremia share athletic abilities as if handed down from Odin himself. They also share an unselfish sibling rivalry to better each other, giving a new definition to family support. On a winter trip to Thailand in 2011 the brothers filmed a video documenting the experience. The result was Breddas (Jamaican slang for brothers), a 15 minute video edit posted to the web. They followed it the next year filming One Shot, which in early 2013 went viral in the wakeboard community. Each video gives you a look at not only their passion for the sport, but their aforementioned desire to better others. O’Brien wakeboards have been the chosen brand of Breddas for years with the support of our Swedish distributor. For 2014, O’Brien has teamed up with the Hoppe brothers to introduce a special edition Breddas board. Last season, O’Brien & Nick Ennen tweaked some of the features on the Baker. Whether winching or free riding, Nick is always pushing the envelope of what is possible on a board. In a quest to continually improve, we made changes to the board that further enhanced its riding qualities. We added more flex to the tip & tail, reduced volume & height of the molded fins, and added subtle tracking channels through the midsection. These changes resulted in a lighter board that tracks and presses better than its debut year. When we started development on the Paradigm with Sean, the challenge was could anyone make a board that performed to our standards on boat, cable, and obstacles? A board too flexible won’t work behind the boat. Too stiff of a board won’t work ideally on cable and obstacles. The perfect flex needed was achieved by combining our Fusion Core with the Paradigm’s heavily ribbed cross-section & its tapered geometry. The end result is a board that is more rigid between your feet, blended out to a flexible tip & tail. This combination gives you incredible energy through the wake, and the ability to press any obstacle put in front of you. DECADE The Decade was designed with Daniel Watkins as a celebration & compilation of 10 consecutive years of signature boards with O’Brien. To this day it still retains a strong following of dedicated riders. The Amplified Rolled Rail (A.R.R.) keeps the midsection catch free when centered. But, when put on edge it gives a smooth transition up towards the tip & tail edges where it quickly tapers to a sharper low volume rail. Josh Sanders’ pro model Format started the wood revolution with O’Brien’s Fusion Core. Top to bottom full-length wood stringers allow us to achieve the “Holy Grail” of wakeboarding construction; reduced the overall volume and decreased weight. The Fusion Core gives us a board that is up to 1.5 lbs. lighter than our standard core. We’ve also reinvented the Progressive Rocker by lifting the centerline of the board towards the tips, resulting in more vertical pop with no loss of speed to the wake. A subtle double concave through the clean midsection of the board softens impact on landings. Before the hybrid-flex technology had taken the wakeboard world by storm, the Coda was already reaping the benefits of a flexible profile. The Coda, having the thinnest and flexible tips & tails in the industry resulted with this board having heightened pop off the wake. Something not noticed until experienced firsthand. Also, incorporated into the board, are a full midsection with slightly pulled tips and a V-hull. Both allow the board to roll on edge easily to provide a responsive ride. Combined, all of these features are reasons why Cory Teunissen has continued to ride the Coda as he moves up the ranks towards the wakeboarding elite. He has already claimed World Titles in the Boys’ Division (2011) and Junior Men Division (2012). In July of 2013, while riding the Coda, Cory became the youngest rider in history to land a wake to wake 1080. We will see what he claims next.

The adjustable X-8 binding securely holds almost any size foot without sacrificing performance. Extra surface area provided by the wide fore-body allows for easy deep water starts. Also the Performer has an aggressive rocker and bevels making it a great slalom ski.

At 58”, the Jr. Celebrity is the perfect size for learning to ski as well as learning slalom. Use the stabilizer bar for learning deep water starts or remove it and really carve!

The Celebrity 64 is truly a combo set for the whole family. It’s just the right size so that the whole family can feel comfortable learning to ski or launching a massive spray! A flatter, faster rocker line reduces drag, allowing for hours of skiing with less fatigue.
