Welcome to the 6 Hour News

Wakefield Park is proud to present the 2011 Wakefield 6 Hour Regularity Relay. It is based on the hugely popular events that are held in Victoria at both Winton raceway and Phillip Island as a Team based event and the Wakefield Park event and is certain to gather popularity in 2011. Last years Winners where a team from Newcastle called Bad Earth Racing the Team consisted of Phil Lawrence driving a Toyota Corolla, Shane Paton in a Toyota KE25, Joel Fitzgerald in a Toyota RA28, Daniel Witcheld driving a Toyota MR2, Anthony Grant in a Toyota GT4 Celica and Garth Thomas in a Toyota AE92. The margin of victory was just 0.2 in the regularity factor which is the equivalence of less than one bonus lap out of the 300 + laps completed. This was an amazing result considering second place finishers Team Daewoo Rent & Race were over 100 points behind on the regularity factor after the first hour. Another Team that had an impressive run home to the flag was FIAT NSW which ended up finishing in third place. The cars that compete in the 6 hour relay are basically what you would see at any super sprint or drive day with the rules tailored to allow people who have been competing at these levels to set up and have a run in the 6 hour. The biggest difference is that there are a lot more cars on track but with the installation of the TRACKSA warning system and the use of blue lights to indicate faster cars approaching and the emphasis on consistent lap times not the fastest possible it has proven to still be just as safe. Please read through this news brochure as we have some more information about putting a team together. We currently have 7 Teams entered and indications are we will have a very good roll up of Teams which will make the weekend even more fun. This years event we will award trophies in for 1st, 2nd & 3rd outright the Team with the most laps the driver with the most laps, the driver with the best regularity factor, the Best presented Team and the Hard luck award. I encourage you to contact us if you would like to become involved in this event as we can help you organise a team or even find a team for you to compete in.

Once you have the numbers (Between 4 & 6) you should contact Wakefield Park and gives us your contact details so we

can keep you up to date with when entries open and close. If you don’t have enough cars and you don’t think you will be able to get enough together you can contact Wakefield Park office and we can match you up with a team. Usually we try to match you with like cars so you have more in common with you team mates. 2011 is set to be a great event with a number of new teams entering. So putting a team together is easier than it sounds and if you have any difficulties along the way simply call the Wakefield Park office and we will help you through it.

WHAT IS A TEAM MANAGER The Team manager plays a important role organising the team on race weekend. He will need to keep his team order and tactics close at hand if he wants his team to be well prepared for the 6 hour. Drama can often unfold in the six hours with break downs throwing team plans into chaos and many plans having to be made on the run. Each hour race control issue an updated time sheet with who s placed were and the Team Manager can

then get a good idea of where there team is in the event. The Team Manager may have at time to liaise with race control over rule interpretations and penalties. It can be a time a serious role but most people that become a team manager enjoy it immensely. So if your interested in becoming a Team Manager and entering a Team in the Six Hour call Wakefield Park and we can get you started.

HOW THE SCORING WORKS The Scoring system is designed so that the team with the lowest Final Factor wins the event. The following is an explanation on how this Final Factor is arrived at and a description of the variables that make up the calculation.

21600 (6 hours) / 76.5 = 282.35 x 2 = 564 Goal Laps Team Managers to complete Competitors Lap Time Nomination Form (included in Team Manager’s Kit) and submit it to the Event Secretary by 5.00pm on Saturday 9th July, 2010

*Goal Laps For this example, each team comprises a minimum of 4 competitors and each competitor nominates a lap time in whole seconds that they believe they can maintain while on the circuit. Those nominated lap times (in seconds) are averaged and divided into 6 hours to give a theoretical maximum number of laps that could be achieved by the team. This number is then doubled and rounded to the nearest whole number to take into account “Bonus Laps” to arrive at “Goal Laps” for the team.

Team Managers may change their competitors’ nominated times by submitting a Competitors Lap Time Revision Form no later than 9.00am on Sunday 10th July 2010 to the Event Secretary or their representative. *Bonus Laps A Bonus Lap is reward for maintaining regularity and is awarded when the driver completes a lap within + 0.99 seconds of their nominated lap time. *Penalty Laps A Penalty Lap occurs when the driver completes a lap under their nominated lap time.

*Achieved Laps Achieved Laps is the number of laps actually completed by the team, varied by the addition of Bonus Laps or subtraction of Penalty Laps. * Regularity Factor Regularity Factor is the difference between a driver’s fastest lap time and the average of their slowest 5 lap times. *Factor 1 Factor 1 is Goal Laps / Achieved Laps Example: 564 / 352 = 1.602 *Factor 2 Factor 2 is obtained by averaging all the drivers’ Regularity Factors e.g. Driver # 1 = fastest lap (1:15.10) and average of slowest 5 laps (1:18.28), factor = 3.18 Driver # 2 = 3.12 Driver # 3 = 4.87 Driver # 4 = 4.42 These factors are added and averaged to determine the team’s Factor 2, in this case = 3.897

Example: 4 drivers Driver #1 nominates *Changeover Laps 1:15.00 = A Changeover Lap occurs when a 75 seconds driver leaves the circuit i.e. at a Driver #2 nominates 1:20.00 = 80 changeover. The inlap of the inseconds coming car and the out-lap of the outgoing car (a total of 2 laps, Driver #3 nominates 1:19.00 = 79 combined time exceeding 2:30 seconds minutes) are not counted. The software automatically recognises *Final Factor Driver #4 nominates 1:12.00 = 72 a period in excess of 2:30 minutes The winning team has the seconds and generates a Changeover Lap. lowest Final Factor. It is shown on the Total = 306 / 4 = 76.5 print out as *****.
