A Message from the President Welcome to summer semester! Wallace State provides a rich selection of courses to students and lifelong learners during its summer session. From mid-May to early August, thousands of students enroll in more than 600 courses across all disciplines. Classes are offered online, on campus during the day and in the evening, during two fiveweek Mini-terms and an interim term so that you can find time to rejuvenate while still participating in college coursework and other activities. Summer semester is important to our students who want to carry a more manageable course load during the regular academic year, those who want to get an early start, catch up, or earn their degrees at an accelerated pace. The atmosphere during summertime is a bit more relaxed, even for those loading up on courses. We welcome visiting students from other colleges and universities who want to take advantage of Wallace State’s offerings during the summer. Students are invited to visit Lion Central, our One Stop Center for enrollment, advising and financial aid services, located on the ground floor of the Bailey Center. Online tutorials for completing the FAFSA and a Financial Aid TV service provide additional answers for students seeking information on Pell grants and student loans. Please also stop by our new School of Nursing and Center for Science to take advantage of the collaborative learning and study spaces you will find there. Many other programs and activities are offered during summer, including summer camps, art exhibitions, and a variety of activities sponsored by our Alumni Association and Continuing Education department. Nationally ranked by the Aspen Institute and Community College Week, and recognized among a prestigious group of Achieving the Dream colleges, Wallace State is always an engaging place to be. Be one of us this summer, and get inspired by the Wallace State of Mind! Vicki P. Karolewics President

Community

A Wallace State Learning Community, or “LC”, is a group of students (usually one 9:30 course designated “LC” in the catalog) who participate in organized, group-learning outside of the classroom. Students in a LC share common experiences centered on their academics and community, achieve a deeper understanding of their course’s subject matter, build relationships with one another, and learn together.

Sign-up for courses designated “LC” and you’ll attend campus and community events as part of your class. Most LC events happen during class-time, from 9:30-10:45. LC events may include viewing a film, attending a performance or game, and/or listening to a guest speaker. You’ll learn outside of the classroom, have the opportunity to work with your classmates, and apply what you know.
