Wallace State Diversity Committee welcomes The Birmingham Sunlights in concert April 3

The Wallace State Community College Diversity Committee announces the upcoming appearance of The Birmingham Sunlights, a well-known and respected Southern Gospel quartet on Tuesday, April 3, at 11 a.m. int the Burrow Center Recital Hall.

Attorney, child advocate, author Liz Huntley to speak at Wallace State April 10 Birmingham attorney, child advocate and author Elizabeth "Liz"Huntley will be the guest speaker on Tuesday, April 10, at 9:30 a.m. during a Learning Communities event in the Bailey Center Auditorium at Wallace State Community College. Huntley is an accomplished litigation attorney, and dedicated child advocate, author and lecturer. She practices law at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition to handling large complex corporate litigation matters, Huntley is regularly appointed by judges to represent the legal interests of children in civil cases. She is also frequently asked by governmental agencies to consult on issues that impact children including the development of legislation that protects children. Liz is a leader in the movement to expand access to high quality PreK to all four year olds in Alabama and has received several state and national awards for her work for children. She was recently named to the “This is Alabama” 2017 class of “Women Who Shape The State.” Liz regularly speaks to groups throughout the country, often referencing her own journey as described in her published memoir titled More Than A Bird.

Alabama Humanities Foundation made its long-awaited debut in Montgomery March 5, displaying 200 years of Alabama history and beyond. The exhibit opened in the capitol in the Old Supreme Court Library and will be on display through March 30 before going on a 19-month tour, which will include an exhibition in Cullman County at The Evelyn Burrow Museum at Wallace State Community College opening on or about April 15 and continuing through about May 24. While at Wallace State, the exhibition can be viewed during the Museum’s opening hours: Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition is also expected to be open on Sunday, April 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. (Due to the contingencies of hosting a traveling exhibition, patrons are encouraged to call in advance to confirm the precise opening and closing date.)

Cullman County Bicentennial Committee announces Student Art Competition Winner in each grade to receive $100 cash


scholarship award The Cullman County Bicentennial Committee is seeking artists to participate in an exhibition of local community artworks, April 24-May 24, 2018, at the Burrow Center at Wallace State Community College, in conjunction with the Making Alabama traveling exhibition. Participants are encouraged to submit artwork based on some aspect of Alabama – its people, places, stories, symbols, flora, fauna, etc., however, the subject matter is not limited to this theme. Any imagery and subject matter which inspire participants is welcome. Students are invited to submit drawings, paintings, multimedia works. Age Divisions for the competition include Grades K-12, and Community College. Read More
