The Wallace State Community College Diversity Committee and The Evelyn Burrow Museum are hosting a celebration of Black History Month, also called African American History Month, February 21-28, 2018. Students are invited to visit the exhibition, located in the Bailey Center Lobby, which is based on the PBS series, Black American Masters Who Have Shaped History. Stop in the Bailey Center Auditorium as you have time next week to also view a selection of documentaries, poetry readings and music featuring these and other African American masters. Black American Masters Who Have Shaped History First Floor, Bailey Center February 21-28, 2018 About Black History Month Did you know that Madam C.J. Walker was America's first woman to become a self-made millionaire, or that George Washington Carver was able to derive nearly 300 products from the peanut? Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month, celebrating the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.
