A Message from the President
Table of Contents
Welcome to fall semester at Wallace State Community College! This fall, we look forward to the opening of several renovated facilities, including the much anticipated reopening of the Bailey Center and its new one stop student services center as well as the opening of a beautiful new spa-like setting for our cosmetology program. Students will also notice the continued greening of our campus, including the recent addition of landscaping and sidewalks along Highway 31, recycling bins in buildings, and a Clean Air Policy that prohibits smoking on campus except in personal vehicles. The addition of temporary parking on the north end of campus provides convenient access to campus for commuting students as construction begins on Wallace State’s new School of Nursing and Center for Science slated to open in fall 2013. A new online student portal at myWallaceState is streamlining the admissions, financial aid, advising, and registration processes, while events and activities for all ages and interests complement the wide array of classes on campus and online. As a student-centered, learning-centered institution, our initiatives are geared toward fostering student engagement and positive student outcomes, ensuring that our graduates are well prepared for beginning a career or for university transfer. As a result, more high school seniors taking the ACT indicate a preference for attending Wallace State than any other college in the Alabama Community College System, and the Aspen Institute recently designated Wallace State as one of the top 120 community colleges in America based on the outcomes our students achieve. Not only do we lead the Alabama Community College System in graduation rates, but a recent report in Community College Week also ranked Wallace State among the "Top 50 Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences" in the United States. An internationally-recognized Achieving the Dream institution, Wallace State is the place to be this fall. We hope that you will join us and be inspired by the Wallace State of Mind!
