A Message from the President Welcome to spring semester at Wallace State Community College! This spring we are excited to serve students in our newly renovated Bailey Center, the location of a One Stop Center designed to make enrollment, advising and financial aid services more easily accessible and streamlined for students. This physical space complements our new online student portal at myWallaceState. A holistic approach to serving students is also reflected in the continued greening of campus and in activities supporting our Healthy Campus Initiative, including a bicycling challenge this spring. The recent addition of landscaping and sidewalks along Highway 31, recycling bins in buildings, and a Clean Air Policy that prohibits smoking on campus except in personal vehicles support that initiative. Students are already enjoying the recent opening of a beautiful new spa-like setting for our cosmetology program, and construction continues on Wallace State’s new School of Nursing and Center for Science slated to open in fall 2013. The transformation of our library into a modern learning commons is expected to begin soon. Springtime events and activities for all ages and interests join a wide array of classes on campus and online. As an Achieving the Dream institution, our initiatives are geared toward fostering student engagement and positive student outcomes, ensuring that our graduates are well positioned to begin a career or for university transfer. As evidence of our success, more high school seniors taking the ACT indicate a preference for attending Wallace State than any other college in the Alabama Community College System, and the Aspen Institute recently designated Wallace State as one of the top 120 community colleges in America based on the outcomes our students achieve. Not only do we lead the Alabama Community College System in graduation rates, but a recent report in Community College Week also ranked Wallace State among the "Top 50 Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences" in the United States. Wallace State will be a great place to be this spring. Join us and get inspired by the Wallace State of Mind! Vicki P. Hawsey President

For many, you were still in school the last time you read those documents. Most of us assume that we remember the details and are practicing legally in this state. But at the heart of those documents is public safety and beginning in 2012 Alabama PTs (in even years) and PTAs (in odd years) will be required to complete a jurisprudence course for licensure renewal. This workshop will help you to achieve this licensure renewal requirement and remind you of the important “ins and outs” of Alabama physical therapy practice through the study and active discussion of the Alabama physical therapy practice documents. CEUs: This course has been approved by the Alabama Board of Physical Therapy for 2 contact hours of continuing education credit.
