TRIO/SSS Student of the Year 2019-20 Haley I would like to express my sincere gratitude to allSelf-Tumlin the amazing staff at TRIO/Student Support Services for the honor of receiving the 2020 Student of the Year Award. This was very exciting and surprising news, and I'd not only like to thank this awesome group for this incredible recognition, but also for all the help they have offered me over the past two years at Wallace State.

After meeting with Ms. Lovell, I felt like I received my first real guidance at Wallace State. She pointed me in the direction of meeting with my Engineering Technology program chair/instructor Mr. Hardman for the first time to receive advising and set up a proper class schedule.

She also informed me about Pell Grant and I was surprised to find out I wasn't going to have to work the same part time job my entire college career to pay for all tuition and books out of pocket. At this point it was like the clouds were being lifted, and I could start to visualize my goals.

SSS also offered many helpful workshops, activities, and opportunities to make new friends and help others. I had an amazing time on the educational excursion to Atlanta in Spring of 2018, and I made friends that I still talk to today. I toured countless museums and historic places that I would not have been able to on my own. It was an amazing experience.

More than anything, I appreciated having several people I could talk to anytime I had a question or issue that came up. Guidance is key when it comes to being a successful student. I can say without a doubt that TRIO/SSS definitely played a crucial role in my educational journey at Wallace State.
