DANCE IN YEAR 7 Work covered during the year Students will explore a range of basic skills in dance. They will be required to perform, compose and appreciate dance in various styles such as the Lindy Hop, the Twist and street dance. Also on various topics such as action movies, thriller and football
How parents can help at home 1. Encourage students to practice new skills in dance at home and to take part in lunch and after school clubs, to enhance their enjoyment of Performing Arts work. 2. Support your child by coming to performances and shows at school and encouraging them to join in school trips to see live performances outside school. 3. Support homework and project research by checking your child’s planner and encouraging them to use facilities such as the local library. 4. Check that your child has the correct kit on the day they have their Dance lessons.
DANCE IN YEAR 8 Work covered during the year Students will build upon skills taught in Year 7 and study dance in the musicals Oliver, Grease and West Side Story. They will look at different dance styles including line dance, break dance and “Bollywood� dance to experience dance from another culture. They will be encouraged to develop their movement skills with partner and group work. Students will be given more freedom in choreography. How parents can help at home 1. Encourage your child to rehearse the classwork and become involved in lunch and after school clubs. 2. Support your child by encouraging them to take part in productions and by coming to performances and shows at school. 3. Assist in organising kit for lessons and completing research set for homework, by using local libraries.
DANCE IN YEAR 9 Work covered during the year Students will build upon skills taught in Year 8. They will further develop knowledge of dance techniques as a basis for GCSE courses. Students will be given greater opportunity to undertake choreography roles in the classroom and will experience additional styles of dance i.e. disco, gumboot dancing, the haka, cheerleading, street dance and breakdance. How parents can help at home 1. Encourage your child to practice and rehearse their performance work and participate in lunch time and after school clubs. 2. Support your child by encouraging them to take part in productions and by coming to performances and shows at school. 3. Assist in organising kit for lessons and completing all research set for homework.
