Level 5 You can structure your performances by using scenes.

You can create different styles of drama e.g. comedy, issue based etc.

You can react to others on stage.

Level 6 You can use lighting and sound to create an atmosphere.

You can explore a script in depth.

You can develop characters fully and sustain them on stage.

Level 7 You can lead and support a group.

You can challenge the audience to think about your plays.

You can look beyond the obvious and see the creative possibilities of a script.

DRAMA IN YEAR 7 Work covered during the year Students will explore a range of issues through various skills such as mime and improvisation.

They will also have the opportunity to work from scripts.

How parents can help at home 1. Encourage students to practice new skills in Drama at home and to take part in lunch and after school clubs, to enhance their enjoyment of Performing Arts work.

2. Support your child by coming to performances and shows at school and encouraging them to join in school trips to see live performances outside school.

3. Support homework and project research by checking your child’s planner and encouraging them to use facilities such as the local library.

DRAMA IN YEAR 8 Work covered during the year Students will build upon skills taught in Year 7 and study character development, mask work and read plays. They will be encouraged to express themselves through a range of dramatic styles and will be given the opportunity to perform their work regularly.

How parents can help at home 1. Encourage students to practice new skills at home and to take part in lunch and after school clubs to enhance their enjoyment of Performing Arts work.

2. Support your child by coming to performances and shows at school.

3. Support homework and project research by checking your child’s planner and encouraging them to use facilities such as the local library.

DRAMA IN YEAR 9 Work covered during the year Students will build upon skills taught in Year 8.

They will study stylised theatre, theatre in education and look at professional work as a basis for GCSE courses. Students will be encouraged to express themselves through a range of dramatic styles and they will be given the opportunity to perform regularly.

How parents can help at home 1. Encourage your child to practice new skills and learn key words and spellings.

2. Encourage your child to take part in lunchtime and after school clubs to enhance their enjoyment of Performing Arts work.

3. Support your child by attending shows and performances held at school.

4. Support homework and project research by checking the student planner and encouraging your child to use facilities such as the local library.
