I have learnt to throw myself in at the deep end and keep an open mind when it comes to my work. It is important to let ideas develop and not be so precious about the first idea that comes to mind. Sometimes the first idea is the most successful, but this can only be proven when presented with a few. I recently visited Packaging Innovations at the NEC in Birmingham and was the only student to visit that day. I felt quite out of my depth, but was so pleased I had visited, as I met the head Packaging Technologist at Marks & Spencer, made several contacts with Macfarlane packaging, and also came away with lots of stock samples which have helped me with my work ever since. I think the important thing to remember, for any student, is that it doesn’t matter if you are not yet qualified, if you can prove yourself and have confidence, then you can achieve anything you want in life.
