1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Throughout this module I have certainly developed my writing skills further. I enjoyed writing the essay this year especially, as I was able to choose the topic of conversation. I also found all of the smaller writing tasks invaluable and think that I learnt a lot when completing them leading up to my essay. I also feel like I have developed a strong understanding for synthesis and being able to communicate an idea in a written and practical format. I have demonstrated this throughout my work and feel as though I have effectively managed to portray key points from my essay within my Kimberly-Clark product at the end.
2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? I have used both Illustrator and InDesign to produce my final product and feel as though this has enabled me to grow in confidence with the software as I have learnt more short cuts along the way which I will be able to apply to my work in the future. I have also come to the realisation that it is not always possible to produce a final outcome in a completely sustainable way. This is something I also learnt at the start of the year when completing my design for print brief when I discussed ethics and sustainability with LGP in Leeds and they made a strong point about how large companies usually just care about the cost as opposed to the effect they are having on the environment. This isn't true in the case of Kimberly-Clark but it is something to consider on a wider scale. When writing my essay and deciding on the final outcome and how I wanted it to be presented, I decided that it would be worthwhile to consider stock choice and the overall aesthetic of it. By using recycled paper to produce my essay and packaging it in a recycled box, I have been able to portray the key elements of discussion from my essay which I am really happy about.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? I feel as thought I have definitely improved with my craft skills. Especially in comparison to last year. I can now value the importance of high quality print to produce high quality results, as I had to go through a lot of trial and error development with my Kimberly-Clark products until I was happy with the outcome of the print quality. I will capitalise on this in the future and continue to work with a high level of expectation in my mind. I would also like to think that my evaluative skills have also improved dramatically, as I have had to analyse work throughout the year. I have also become more confident with using Illustrator to create icons, this is something I would like to continue to work on in the future.
