Welcome to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated – Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter, also known as The Wall Street Alphas As we embark on our 50th anniversary, we recommit ourselves to the core work of our organization – to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities It starts with revitalizing our college chapters, reestablishing our posture of service to those in need, and rekindling the bonds of brotherhood in our ranks and abroad.
Our college chapters serve as the lifeblood of our fraternity and beacons for the future We want to invest in the gifts and talents of our young people so that we can see them prosper and flourish in daily life That takes intentionality by promoting the light of Alpha to students and faculty, serving their campuses, guiding those who delight in Alpha into our organization, and continuing their leadership development post-graduation
The communities in which we reside are our neighbors and we must support them unconditionally. Extending past our comfort zones to ensure that others less fortunate may be blessed is what we are called to do. To aid those who are underprivileged, we must seek those who are in need and meet them with empathy Our outreach can range from voter registration and providing nonperishable foods to youth mentorship and economic development Whether they are in the Lower East Side, Chelsea, or Downtown Brooklyn, it is our duty to provide for their needs
Lastly, none of this work can be done without fellowship within the ranks of Alpha and its ecosystem. Brotherhood is the nexus behind our efforts and it is important that we share those fraternal bonds among our fellow fraters, sorors, and like-minded organizations. Partnerships produce synergy and allow us to magnify our impact in society We look forward to more collaboration so that we can uphold the values of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind
Fraternally,
Bro. James Casey

2024 CHAPTER OF THE YEAR
Preparing for Back to School 2024
BY JAMES T TURNER
As a new school year begins, students and parents are preparing for success Whether starting elementary school or high school, laying a strong foundation with preparation, communication, and support is key Brother Omezie Omeokwe, the assistance principal at John Adams High School in Queens, NY shares insights for making this school year a positive experience
Consistent Communication
"One of the most powerful things parents can implement is consistent communication with both their children and the school," says Omeokwe Regular check-ins can help parents stay informed not just about academics, but their child’s emotional wellbeing and social interactions.
“Establishing a daily or weekly routine to review academic plans, discuss challenges, and set goals will help students stay focused,” he advises. This routine fosters both academic success and emotional stability
Involvement in Extracurricular Activities
Omeokwe encourages parents to support their child’s participation in extracurricular activities "These activities provide a well-rounded experience and help students feel more connected to their peers and the school community," he notes Whether it’s sports, clubs, or the arts, involvement builds friendships and teaches valuable skills like leadership and teamwork
Fostering Belonging
"As an Assistant Principal focused on safety and student life, I am excited to foster a stronger sense of belonging and community within the school this year," says Omeokwe Initiatives such as My Brother’s Keeper, My Sister’s Keeper, and the Black Student Union aim to provide mentorship and support, ensuring every student feels empowered.
Restorative Justice
Omeokwe is also looking forward to integrating restorative justice approaches into conflict resolution, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.
“These practices will help us not only manage conflict but turn it into learning experiences,” he says
Through consistent communication, extracurricular involvement, and supportive programs, parents and educators can help students thrive academically and emotionally throughout the school year
