PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS Greetings Brothers: I pray that his note finds you in great spirits and health. Happy New Year and Welcome to 2022! The first half of the fraternal year was very productive, but we are looking forward to tons of exciting programming in 2022. We have several charitable and fundraising events targeted for the spring, along with a fellowship hike, Brotherhood smoke, convention road trip and other programs and service events.
Our GENTS mentoring program is going well and we look forward to growing and expanding our footprint and scholarship efforts in 2022. Stay tuned! Brothers, please feel free to reach out to our Executive Board Members at any time for the opportunity to dialogue around shared experiences in fundraising, investments, mentoring and service, as we know that iron sharpens iron. Finally my Brothers, I pray that you will find an opportunity to connect with your family and loved ones during this holiday weekend as we celebrate the life and legacy of Bro. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There remains much work to be done in our communities and it starts with us, our families, our collective communities and our Brotherhood.
Thank you and God Bless. Fraternally, Bro. Lino A. Solis, Esq. President Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Kappa Xi Lambda Gives Hope to NYC Homeless
The Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, also known as The Wall Street Alphas, On Saturday, December 4th 2021, celebrated their W115th anniversary of when our fraternity was founded. Their fraternity's motto is “Servants of All,” which they strive to echo through their annual Founders Day community service project, where their chapter distributed 115 bags of personal care products (i.e., soap, deodorant, lotion, razors), blankets, socks, PPE masks, and snacks to the homeless community in and around New York Penn Station. This is an area of the city where a large percentage of the New York City Homeless population resides. Their goal was not only to provide individuals with care packages but with hope and kindness. Community members that often felt overlooked expressed feelings seen and valued. Those individuals who attended the community outreach shared their appreciation for receiving the care packages. Many of the attendees viewed the care package items (hygiene products, socks, blankets, etc.) as luxuries, while these items would be considered daily necessities for many New Yorkers. The Wall Street Alphas' Fifth Annual Founders' Day Community Outreach was successful due to fundraising efforts and product donations. They raised over $1,000 donations from fraternity members and supporters and $1500 in product donations from Bevel, House of A, and The Covenant House. Also, the Church of St. Francis Assisi donated space to assemble the personal care bags. Below is a link to photos from their community service on Saturday, courtesy of photographer Kahdeem Prosper Jefferson. Their website is www.wallstreetalphas.com, and their Instagram handle is @WallStreetAlphas. Please email VincentLeeCunningham@gmail.com if you would like to feature/share this story.

Kappa Xi Lambda Health and Wellness prostate cancer through his non-profit – Prostate Cancer Awareness Alliance-DMV. Over the holidays, his organization helped men newly diagnosed with prostate cancer and/or who’ve have just undergone a treatment for prostate cancer. His organization also helps men navigate their post treatment as a prostate cancer survivor. Brother Butts is in the process of expanding his organizations model and outreach beyond DC, MD, and VA to include helping men from NYC to Los Angeles, CA.
By Sheila M. Eldred Health Writer for HealthCentral PROSTATE CANCER IS the most common type of cancer in American men after skin cancer. Currently, 3.1 million biological males in the U.S. are living with it or have survived it. And African American men make up a disproportionate share of those millions. Not only are they diagnosed with PC at higher rates, they’re also more than twice as likely to die from more aggressive disease. However, when diagnosed at the same stage, African American men survive this cancer at similar rates as other men. We asked three Black survivors to share their prostate cancer journeys with us.
Speaking Engagements in NYC – I would be more than happy to schedule time to talk with your church, Men’s/Health group, and/or organizations, virtually during COVID-19 and in-person later in 2022, about being proactive with your prostate health and to share my journey. Please email me at info@derrickbutts.com to begin the discussion. Thank you Brothers for your support! Brother Derrick Butts
Brother Derrick A. Butts and Brother Larry Blackmon are prostate cancer survivors. These two brothers were proactive with their prostate health and encouraged other men to be proactive in knowing their PSA numbers. Each of them have undergone different prostate cancer treatments and have shared their stories on HealthCentral. Black people such as Lackey are five times more likely to develop glaucoma than white people, and the disease tends to strike Black patients a decade earlier and progress faster. Yet, most glaucoma research — as with many other medical studies — has focused on white patients.

Later stage at diagnosis. African American women are more likely to present with advanced cervical cancer than non-Hispanic white women. Less-aggressive treatment. African American women are more likely to receive no treatment after a cancer diagnosis. Differences in treatment may be attributed to comorbid conditions, stage at cancer diagnosis and patient refusal. Less access to care. A study from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program of the National Cancer Institute looked at 7,267 women (4,431 non-Hispanic white women, 1,830 Hispanic white women and 1,006 non-Hispanic African American women) who were diagnosed with primary invasive cervical cancer from 1992 to 1996 and followed through 2000. African American women had a 19 percent higher mortality rate compared with non-Hispanic white women during follow-up despite adjusting for age, stage, histology and time of first treatment. However, a later study from the same program found no such difference after 1995, when the data were adjusted for marital status, disease stage, age, treatment, grade and histology. Kappa Xi Lambda Health and Wellness Slow Cooker Orange Chicken
Why rush out for disappointing fast food when you can take it slow and enjoy the best version of the same meal? Slow Cooker Orange Chicken practically cooks itself, so you still have that don't-need-to-worry feeling that fast food provides without having to leave the house. Its savory chicken is coated in the same sweet and tangy citrus glaze that gets everyone excited. Slow Cooker Orange Chicken satisfes cravings with its beautiful balance of favors and its surprising simplicity. Ingredients 1 1/4 pounds chicken breasts, boneless, skinless, and cut into 1-inch chunks 1/4 cup cornstarch salt, to taste pepper, to taste 1/4 cup vegetable oil 3/4 cup orange marmalade 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce 1 tablespoon rice vinegar 1 teaspoon sesame oil 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional) 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced (optional) rice, cooked, for serving (optional)
Directions In a medium bowl, add the chicken, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Toss to combine and evenly coat the chicken. In a large pan on the stove-top over medium-high heat, heat the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken in a single layer in the pan and cook until each side is browned, about 3 -4 minutes per side. If you do not have enough space in the pan, cook the chicken in batches. Grease the pot of a slow cooker. Add the chicken to the slow cooker. In a small bowl, whisk together the orange marmalade, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic. Pour the sauce over the chicken and gently stir to coat evenly. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 2-3 hours. Top with the sesame seeds and green onions, and serve over rice!
