PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS Greetings Brothers and Happy Kwanzaa to all: I pray that you and your families are doing well and staying safe during this holiday season. We remain grateful for all of God's blessings and challenges in 2020 and I'm confident that we will remain equally excited about 2021 and our unlimited potential to serve our communities and bond as Brothers. As we look forward to 2021 and beyond, I am humbled that providence and a little luck led me to our beloved Brotherhood and hereby affirm my pledge to be a more vigilant servant, while expanding my capacity to be a better Brother to my Brothers. Also during this season Brothers, let us find time for quite contemplation, meditation and prayer as we remember and reflect on our beloved Brothers who have transitioned into Omega Chapter this year. Our fond memories of them will live on and they will forever be missed.

Finally my Brothers, we hereby deliver the last issue of the Wall Street Report for the year 2020. Kindly enjoy the issue, as our Editor and committee have done a wonderful job featuring all that we do as Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Wall Street Chapter. Enjoy the holiday season with family and close friends and Happy New Year! Stay safe and well and may God Bless you. Fraternally, Bro. Lino A. Solis, Esq. President Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

ASSOCIATE EDITOR’S ADDRESS Greetings Brothers, I hope that each of you, your families, friends, and loved ones have been well. As we prepare to wrap up the end of one of the most unconventional year’s in history, it is important to remember that 2021 is a chance for new opportunities, goals, and strategy. If you did not make time to practice self-care, or you did, but you want to build on those initial efforts, the new year is a perfect time to start with a clean slate. Eight of the areas I usually set goals around are: (1) Physical Health, (2) Intellectual Health, (3) Emotional Health, (4) Social Health, (5) Spiritual Health, (6) Vocational Health, (7) Financial Health, (8) Environmental Health. For anyone who would like help with setting goals in these areas, I am willing to help! Let’s finish the 4th quarter strong! “Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.”

– Miguel Angel Ruiz Fraternally,

Zikomo Barr, M.Ed. Associate Editor of the Sphinx Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Things You Should Know About…. 5G Adoption in the United States

What are the 5G terms I should care about? 1. uRLLC: Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication - this application of 5G will provide mission critical systems low latency and high reliability. An example of this can be observed by Amazon’s partnership with Verizon & Blackberry for the Ivy initiative to build a data platform to help bolster the infrastructure for connected vehicles for traffic management . 2. mMTC: Massive Machine Type Communication (IoT)- Enabling network capabilities for sensing, metering, and monitoring devices. Applications of this technology will be evident in smart waste, energy and parking management for cities of the future. 3. eMBB: Enhanced Mobile Broadband – Faster speeds for use cases requiring high data rates like large-scale video streaming, and downloading content. With the implementation of 5G, consumers can expect up to 100x performance gains in comparison to 4G networks.

Photo Credit: Forbes By Bro. Jesse Owens II Since the release of the 5G specification back in 2017, it has been deployed in over 378 cities and 34 countries as of January 2020 according to a report published by Viavi Solutions. In the same report it was reported less than 1% of US cities are supported by 5G. In October 2020, Apple launched their iPhone 12 series of consumer devices that supported 5G connectivity which is a clear indication that demand for this technology and infrastructure plans will soon ramp up. With the support of 5G consumers will be able to download, stream, deliver content at unprecedented speeds that the 4G predecessor couldn’t deliver. Given all the excitement around 5G, its important to understand the use cases of 5G and why consumers should care about it. What you will see will be every network connected device will be impacted by 5G in the future. In order for this promise to be realized, telecommunication companies (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile etc.) will have to build/upgrade their network infrastructure by deploying local nodes that can work within rural and urban cities, capital investments and federal legislation to develop a robust strategy to secure this new infrastructure. In this article we’ll highlight key considerations of 5G as the technology matures in the United States.

What to expect next for 5G? As the 5G networks continue to increase in adoption, pay close attention to 1.) Capital investments into the 5G infrastructure in urban and rural cities 2.) Digitalization trends of everyday use cases like logistics, traffic management and energy consumption 3.) Federal Legislation (see Secure 5G and Beyond Act of 2020) to preserve the security of these systems form malicious data attacks. 1.

ΚΞΛ Brothers on the Move! Bro. Jesse Owens II ( ΚΞΛ, Spring 2008 Initiate) Brother Jesse Owens II opened up during an interview with Jerelyn Rodriguez, the Co-Founder and CEO of The Knowledge House, about why the organization is important to him. Here’s what he had to say: “Why is The Knowledge House important to me? When speaking with @jerelyn_r about the mission and goals of the organization I thought about 3 pillars that are very clear. * 1. DIGITAL FLUENCY: As the world evolves and companies become more digitally sound, it’s imperative to build STEM curriculums centered about software engineering, user experience design and data science as these serve and foundational skillsets of the future of work. * 2. EMPOWER PEOPLE OF COLOR: The Knowledge House Fellowship Program is geared to provide students in underrepresented communities access to a robust learning environment, industry professionals and a pipeline into job placement after the program. * 3. JOB CREATION: The tech skills acquired during the program will be in demand for generations. In addition, it will help bridge the wealth gap experienced in black and brown communities by placing graduates in jobs that enables them to create a brighter future for themselves. * If this resonates with you, join the tribe and head over to my bio link to support The Knowledge House Fellowship Program. Every dollar raised will be to fund student expenses throughout the intensive program. @theknowledgehouse “ We thank Brother Owens for all he does for the community. Keep holding the light high!

ΚΞΛ Brothers on the Move! Bro. Dominique Lee ( ΚΞΛ, Spring 2018 Initiate) In late 2019, Dominique Lee (KXL Spring 18) had an idea to have every day common folk share why they vote as a way to encourage others to first get registered to vote and then actively participate in elections on all levels – local, state and federal. In early 2020 Lee shared his idea with a few people and took to his personal social media and launched #WhyVote – a nonpartisan campaign where storytelling meets activism. The campaign gained national acclaim from various corporations, public figures, and organizations across the country. Official influencers such as Sheyann WebbChristburg – named by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as his smallest freedom fighter as well as independent recording artist RAII & Whitney, celebrity choreographer Jamal Josef and director of the multi-Emmy awardwinning show Watchman – Nicole Kassell have joined #WhyVote. Partners such as Rock The Vote, OMG Booth, Black Rock Coalition and Club House Global joined the initiative which received 3 million + impressions via their social channels and registered close to 500 new voters in its target markets of Birmingham, AL; East Los Angeles, CA; Detroit, MI; Flint, MI and Philadelphia, PA. .” Bro. Lee and the team have now begun planning their efforts for 2021 and the upcoming state and local elections. Visit #WhyVote at www.WhyVote.site and follow the initiative on Facebook and Instagram respectively at Why Vote Initiative and @WhyVoteInitiative for more details.

Brother Larry Bannister (Psi, 1968) is a retired educator who taught in the Philadelphia, PA school system for 30 years. He was initiated into Psi Chapter on April 18, 1968. Brother Bannister's brotherhood is widely known. Belonging and active with 4 New York City Chapters (Alpha Phi Alpha - Kappa Xi Lambda, Alpha Phi Alpha - Zeta Zeta Lambda, Alpha Phi Alpha - Alpha Gamma Lambda, and Alpha Phi Alpha - Gamma Iota Lambda), Brother Bannister has mentored hundreds of Brothers and has upheld the aims of the Fraternity for over 50 years. He constantly encourages younger members to get active, to stay involved, and to work on issues that benefit our larger society. The Wall Street Alphas grieve the loss of our dear Brother Lawrence Bannister. Initiated in Psi Chapter in the spring of 1968, Brother Bannister has been a source of wisdom to all who have entered his presence. His dedication to the chapter and fraternity at large was unwavering; for he was indeed a brother's brother. We cherish his memory and join hands with his loved ones in mourning.
