100 WALNUT CREEK

Together we create a better community through services that strenghten heart, mind and body.

Walnut Creek will mark the 100th anniversary of incorporation on October 21, 2014. Look for an entire year of festivities to honor our past, celebrate our present, and set the tone for the next 100 years to come! A Centennial Celebration Steering Committee, chaired by community leaders Steve and Mackenzie Lesher, is busy coming up with community-friendly ways to mark this momentous occasion, with the “100 Ways to Celebrate the 100th.”

School Year Preschool offered at three locations!

Support arts education this holiday season Is there a very special artist in your life? Do you value arts education for everyone in our community? Do you wonder how an arts education might have changed your life if you had the opportunity when you were a child? Show your passion for arts education with a year-end donation that helps experienced and budding artists in the Walnut Creek area take arts classes and programs in 2014. Your tax-deductible gift to the Friends of Civic Arts Education Foundation helps us continue our mission to provide local low-income students of all ages with scholarships and programs to explore classes in theater, dance, music instruction and the visual arts. If you wish, we invite you to honor a special artist in your life with a donation in their honor. The Friends Foundation awards scholarships to students in need -- from preschool-age children to seniors -- so they can pursue their arts education in the Civic Arts program. Friends of Civic Arts Education Foundation Arts Teacher Advocates for Civic Arts The Friends Foundation is committed to advocating for the arts, so that classes and programs can help shape the artistic lives of students of every age. One of our favorite success stories is Laney Deatsch, an avid arts student and now Pleasant Hill middle school art teacher. Her early artistic inspiration in Civic Arts led to a career in teaching and advocating for the arts. “I started Civic Arts when I was five years old” she remembers. “It was great exposure to the arts that I wasn’t getting anywhere else.” “I would encourage people to try a class that they’ve never thought of trying before” she says. Stretch your artistic wings, get out of your creative comfort zone, and discover your passion through Walnut Creek Civic Arts Education.

New Neon: Light, Paint, and Photography December 5, 2013 – February 23, 2014 To brighten our winter days, the Bedford welcomes New Neon. Taking its cue from the re-emerging popularity of this distinctly Californian medium, New Neon examines the way in which neon has been repurposed, in painterly, photographic, and sculptural practices, to reflect the cadence and drama of our media-saturated cultural landscape. The Bedford will host an opening reception on Thursday, December 5, 2013, 6:00-8:00pm.
