AQ UAT I C S S P OT L I G H T ! Children Are Not Waterproof Did you know that drowning is one of the largest leading causes of accidental death for infants and young children? Below are tips to think about when around water:

Always maintain adult supervision around any body of water • Kids are fearless and don’t understand the fatal consequences of water. • Never leave children or non-swimmers unattended for any length of time near water • Appoint & clearly assign an adult supervisor for your pool area

Utilize barriers around all pools—It’s the law! • Locked doors? Safety pool cover? Self-latching closing gates and fencing?

Don’t be bored or broke this summer! Come to the Teen Job Fair on Thursday, March 4th to gather information about summer opportunities. The Teen Job Fair, sponsored by the City of Walnut Creek, provides volunteer and summer employment information for teens 13 and up. Stop by and check it out! This is a drop-in event; reservations not required. Social Hall, Civic Park CC

3:00-6:00pm

Be prepared for an emergency • Is there a phone close by? Have you taken a CPR class? Is there rescue equipment near your pool?

For more information about Drowning is Preventable (DIP) visit: www.preventdrowningca.org and look into our Spring swim lesson programs on pages 20-21.
