Well-rounded, nurturing, developmentally age-appropriate programs and curriculums for young children ages 24 to 57 months. We offer hands-on learning opportunities that develop and expand social/emotional, physical, and cognitive capabilities through creative learning experiences. Group activities include the arts, with small focus groups exploring pre-math, science, and early language/literacy experiences. Heather Farm and Civic Park Preschools are now part of Civic Arts Education programming. Doug Rowe, Civic Arts program supervisor, has been working with the teaching staff on this transition and will be supervising both programs as well as the Fine Arts Preschool at the Shadelands Art Center. The unique qualities and teaching staff of all three of these developmental programs will remain the same. We are excited about this new partnership and look forward to continuing the quality developmental education to which we are committed. The school year runs August 29–June 1, though new students may enroll anytime up until April 1, 2012.

Camp Little Walnut
Tenderfoot or Little Walnut?
Summer at Camp Little Walnut is filled with fun, excitement and enthusiasm. Our age-appropriate games and activities build confidence and inspire independence on a daily basis. Little Walnuts will enjoy exploring their creativity while making new friends. Each week includes special themed activities and adventures designed to delight kids and keep them excited to come back every morning.
Which program is right for your camper? Crafts and games, socialization, and tons of fun can be found in both programs, but there are some differences. Tenderfoot campers are a little younger than our Little Walnuts. If your child has not yet started preschool, Tenderfoot is a great start. Children who have had more school or play group experiences will find Little Walnut camp a perfect fit. Whichever camp you choose, our program leaders will make sure that your child has a wonderful summer!

Youth Tennis (continued)
Adult Tennis (16 & Older)
Beginning, Adv. Beginning & Intermediate Levels:
Beginning
This 3 tiered introduction program is designed to develop early tennis skills that include stage 1, 2 and 3 balls, ground strokes (stationary and moving), serving (1/2 and full motion), volleys, overheads, and basic vocabulary. Students are grouped by age and ability levels the 1st day of class. Class goal: to maintain “full court” rallies and serve 1 of 3 balls into correct service box while using proper technique. Graduates are encouraged to join the Bronze, Silver & Gold program.
For students with little or no previous tennis instruction. Students will be introduced to the forehand, backhand, serve, and basic vocabulary. Class goal: maintain a six-to-ten shot “short court” rally and serve an average of 1 out of 3 balls into the correct service box.
Bronze, Silver & Gold Levels: For students who graduated from the Green, Blue & Red Level program or can fulfill the program requirements. Students will learn topspin, under spin sidespin; add and reduce the power to shots, and develop specialty shots. Program drills enhance quickness, balance and racquet control for improved consistency and accuracy. Class goal: Develop foundation to become a well-rounded tennis player, successfully play singles and doubles matches, and to play in local tennis leagues, school teams or tournaments.
Little Tennis & Rallyer Camps Specially designed tennis nets, racquets and low bouncing balls are used to provide an enjoyable learning experience for younger players (4-6 years). Several short breaks are taken so that students can regain energy (bring a snack) and cool down (ice water provided). Little Tennis students will learn to recognize, demonstrate and successfully hit the forehand, backhand and serve. They will learn parts of the racquet and court, and improve coordination and motor skills (i.e. balancing, overhand throwing, catching, shuffling). Little Rallyers will work to improve their full court abilities through a series of drills and games.
Junior Improvement & Matchplay Camps: Students are grouped by age & ability levels on 1st day of class. Introductory students will learn & improve their forehand, backhand, volley, overhead and serve through our unique “court rotation and activity system.” Intermediate and Junior Team students will develop specialty shots and play in singles and doubles Round Robin Tournaments. The instructor(s) will help players with scoring, rules and match strategy. Players should bring a snack; ice water is provided.
Advanced Beginning For students completing 10 or more hours of beginning tennis. In this level, we will be adding movement to groundstroke rallying and improving serving technique. Class goal: maintain a full-court rally and serve an average of 1 out of 2 balls into the correct service box.
Intermediate/Advanced For students who have completed 10-20 hours of advanced beginning tennis. Students will be introduced to volleys and overheads while improving overall confidence and consistency of the forehand, backhand and serve. Added movement becomes a key component at this level. Class goal: to be able to play an actual singles or doubles match.
Drill Class Intermediate course or instructor approval. Workouts cover ground strokes, volleys, overheads, and serving drills. A great class for those wanting to move and hit lots of tennis balls.
Women’s Tennis Academy This innovative program is designed for 3.5 to 4.0 level players looking to improve their results in interclub, USTA league/tournaments or just to further develop their game playing skills. Students will thrive in our rotating court training system; which has produced fantastic results throughout local and national junior competitions.
Men’s Drill Class Turn up your game with drills focused on movement and shot development. Classes are designed to maximize the number of balls hit per session. Each lesson will include a variety of drills that cover a wide range of shots.
Doubles Strategy Always poaching when you shouldn’t? Can’t figure out what to do against those tough pushers? The Doubles Strategy class will give you an edge over the competition through proven techniques and strategies that that you can implement in your game right away. The class will cover a variety of common scenarios and playing styles to help tailor your game with the perfect strategy.
