Grace Goudie Executive Chef, Scratchboard Kitchen
“I grew up in Chicagoland and started working in the restaurant industry when I was 15. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Napa Valley, I worked for [Michelin-starred chef] Thomas Keller at Ad Hoc and The French Laundry. When I moved back to the Midwest, I had a few job offers in Chicago, but decided to open Scratchboard Kitchen with [owner] Danielle Kuhn in Arlington Heights. We opened in April 2020, of all times. But that’s the thing about Arlington Heights. It's a strong community. We’ve seen popular restaurants in the city close left and right. But here, we’ve got so much community support for the momand-pop restaurants.
Our menu changes seasonally, but there are a few mainstays. The fried chicken sandwich harkens back to my Ad Hoc days. Our breakfast sandwiches are made on house-made biscuits and topped with local bacon and eggs. Our food is really approachable. It’s the kind of place you can eat at everyday!” DOWNTOWN

First Ascent, Arlington Heights
Arlington Heights
For a delightful downtown
Arlington Heights’ downtown is home to dozens of restaurants, shops, and a Metra train with service to Chicago. Start your day with a latte and avocado toast at CoCo & Blu. Shop the latest looks at Charisma or head to The Eiffel Flower for gifts and home accessories. Grab a slice of thin crust at Armand’s Pizzeria (open since 1956!) or go for Latin flavors at Mago Grill & Cantina (try the guacamole prepared tableside, or the churro cart) before seeing a show at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre. Elevated pub fare is on the menu at Cortland’s Garage, a great place to watch the game. Just down the street, follow the sounds to Hey Nonny, where live music is on the calendar every Tuesday through Saturday. For
more entertainment, check out Big Shot Piano Lounge & Restaurant. Thirsty? Beer on the Wall is a craft brew shop with 600+ cans and bottles, plus 16 rotating beers on draft. A few miles west of downtown is First Ascent Climbing and Fitness, one of the country's largest indoor rock climbing and bouldering facilities.
Arlington Alfresco
Every May through September, downtown Arlington Heights transforms into a pedestrianfriendly, open-air plaza with expanded outdoor seating at restaurants and a concert series.
The 3,500-acre Busse Woods forest preserve offers plenty of ways to play outside. There’s a lake, kayak rentals, 13 miles of paved trails, and even a herd of elk grazing in a pasture. For more, turn to page 17.
Itasca
For history and small-town charm
Elk Grove Village
For fun and games on the edge of O’Hare
Did you know? Chicago is officially known as the “Pinball Capital of the World,” and several of the game’s biggest names are based in Elk Grove Village. That’s right – your favorite arcade game is made right here. Both Stern Pinball (the world’s largest pinball factory) and Jersey Jack Pinball call Elk Grove Village home. Beyond arcade games, Elk Grove Village’s crown jewel is the Jack A. Claes Pavilion, with an indoor carousel, indoor playground, and an aquatic center open year-round. Pirates' Cove is open during the summer months, and nearby Rainbow Falls Waterpark is one of the largest in the area.
Explore the area’s railroad history at the Itasca Historical Depot Museum, housed in the town’s original 1873 depot. Visiting during the winter months? Check out Fox & Turtle Restaurant at Itasca Country Club and discover the game of ice curling. (Make reservations beforehand!) Also at Itasca Country Club, sip innovative cocktails made by renowned mixologist Tao Zrafi at No School Tomorrow, Zrafi's new bar. (Zrafi was Drink Masters season 1 finalist!). Get back to nature at the Springbrook Nature Center on trails that meander through shaded woodlands. Where to stay? Book a room at The Westin Chicago Northwest, featuring a full-service health club attached to the hotel and a 2.5-mile paved walking path, or Eaglewood Resort & Spa, where an 18-hole championship golf course await. Bonus: Eaglewood is close to O’Hare International Airport, and has fun amenities like a bowling alley and bocce ball courts.
Rolling Meadows
For global cuisine and picture-perfect suburbia
Take a step back in time at the Rolling Meadows 1950s House Museum, a replica of the town’s first ranch house (it’s like Happy Days brought to life!), then take a stroll along Salt Creek in beautiful Kimball Hill Park. Rolling Meadows has plenty of places for kids to burn energy – there are about a dozen parks and playgrounds, and many are connected by the town’s bike path. Introduce your family to opera (performed by rod puppets) at Rolling Meadows Park District Theater’s Opera in Focus (see page 17
for more). At Nelson Sports Complex practice your spins on the indoor skating rink or take a dip in the Olympic-size pool and let the littles cool off in the splash pad. Bring an adventurous appetite, because global flavors abound in Rolling Meadows: Go for mezcal cocktails and fish tacos at Sayulita; a diverse menu of Turkish and central Asian plates at Jannat (try the hummus and lamb kebabs); or grab a few rolls from the revolving sushi bar at Sushi Station. For something totally different (and really fun!), check out Agit Black. This Korean kitchen/karaoke bar serves traditional Korean dishes in an energetic, vibrant setting with private karaoke rooms.

Stacina Stagner Communications Manager, Forest Preserves of Cook County
“The elk pasture at Busse Woods dates to 1925, when the Forest Preserves purchased animals from the National Park Service. The animals were transported here from Yellowstone. Within the pasture, the herd forages on a mix of woods, shallow wetlands, and open grasslands. The herd is also supplemented by our Forest Preserves staff, who visit and care for the elk daily. We work with Brookfield Zoo Chicago to ensure the herd is getting their necessary nutrients. When visiting the park, don’t feed the elk and don’t call them over to you. It can startle the animals. Be respectful, and let them do their elk thing. They don’t need us to feed them. Nature knows how to nature!”
Elk Grove Village is home to two pinball factories. To celebrate the area's fun pinball history, check out the annual Pinball Expo held at the Schaumburg Convention Center each fall. DID YOU KNOW?

“‘Trickster’ is a character in Indigenous culture that provokes people to seek the truth. Here, we offer insight into contemporary Native American culture and traditions that tie into the Great Lakes region. Our gallery space showcases objects from Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History archives and features up-and-coming artists. Trickster Cultural Center offers events and programming yearround; private tours are available.
Here comes the bus!
The Pace Bus Route 600 Schaumburg Express to the Blue Line offers access to Chicago and O’Hare.
Schaumburg
For business, play, and retail therapy
There is always something to explore in Schaumburg. Woodfield Mall is the largest mall in Illinois, with nearly 300 shops and restaurants from Apple to Radio Flyer and from Primark to Macy’s (turn to page 20 for more). In fact, Schaumburg is one of the largest retail markets in the country. For outlet shopping, head over to Woodfield Village Green and shop Nordstrom Rack, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, J. Crew Factory, and more. And of course, there’s IKEA right around the corner. At The Streets of Woodfield outdoor shopping center, you’ll find AMC Theatres Dave & Buster’s, and the two-story LEGOLAND Discovery Center, where LEGO®-themed rides, VR experiences, and an indoor playground delight kids. And for a family experience like none other, head to the castle - the Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament castle, that is – for dinner and a tournament of jousting knights and falconry. Located directly off I-90 and only 13 miles from O’Hare International Airport, the conveniently located Schaumburg Convention Center has 150,000 square feet of meeting space. It's part of the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel, a bright, airy hotel with a spacious lobby, plenty of gathering places, and the farm-to-table Schaumburg Public House restaurant.
Roselle
For eats, drinks, and community spirit
In downtown Roselle, visit Lynfred Winery, the oldest and largest continuously operated family winery in Illinois. Producing some 70 varietals every year, including lesser-known grapes like Alicante Bousche and classics like Chardonnay, Lynfred sources its grapes from different wine regions and handles everything else in house, from crushing to bottling. Turn to page 35 for more. If you’re craving a more sudsy sip, it’s a short walk over to Pollyanna Brewery for its flagship lagers, porters, IPAs, and golden ales.
Suite dreams
Book a stay at Lynfred Winery Bed & Breakfast, where four themed suites celebrate wine regions around the world (America, France, Germany, and Italy).
Snag a table outside on the patio, which hosts live music and food trucks. Further along Main Street, refuel at 1913 Restaurant and Bar for prime steaks and fresh seafood, or 8000 Miles for Chinese and Japanese dishes. Nearby, the newly opened Mangy Dawg’s Pub offers a neighborhood vibe with a scratch kitchen serving handmade burgers, sandwiches, and wings, while Italian Pizza Kitchen offers classic Italian pastas and pizzas.
tee time! Scan here for a complete list of golf courses.
Streamwood
For nostalgic throwbacks
You can’t come to Streamwood without stopping at The Original Nana’s Hot Dogs, which has been serving hot dogs and fresh-cut fries since 1973. Try a dog with mustard, relish, and onion, and save room for a chocolate shake. For a dose of history, check out the Hoosier Grove Museum –this one-room schoolhouse, built in 1904, educated Streamwood’s residents until 1954. Today, it’s part of a complex that includes a 1888 dairy barn converted into an events venue. For fresh-air fun, Streamwood’s parks system has athletic fields, disc golf courses, skate park, splash pad, and playgrounds.
Wood Dale
For great golf and barbecue
Start your day with pancakes at Christy’s, then head to 390 Golf Experience, offering three levels of private golf bays with Toptracer technology and free club rentals. At the on-site Parlay Golf & Sports Bar, sip a drink on the sunny outdoor patio after practicing your swing. Later on, grab a wood-fired pizza at Marino’s (go for the house special, with sausage, green pepper, onion, and mushroom), or enjoy authentic Polish Highlands cuisine and rustic log cabin decor at U Gazdy. And don’t even think about missing the pulled-pork sandwich at Sweet Baby Ray’s, from the family behind the line of legendary barbecue sauces.
local voice
Duce Raymond Managing Partner and Director of Culinary, Sweet
Baby Ray’s Barbecue
“Who is Sweet Baby Ray? He’s actually a real person – it’s my uncle Dave Raymond, who lives in Wood Dale and comes into this restaurant all the time. This is his place. My dad was the chef who created Sweet Baby Ray’s sauces in the 1980s, along with Uncle Dave. We’ve been serving barbecue in Wood Dale since 2005.
When people think of Sweet Baby Ray’s, they think of barbecue and ribs. There are a few menu items you must try. Order the three-meat combo with baby back ribs, brisket (get the burnt ends!), and Alabama smoked chicken. It’s made with a white barbecue sauce, so you’ll taste something completely different from the sweeter, tomato-based sauces. For your sides, go for the green chili mac and cheese, made with poblano peppers and pepper jack, and the corn maque choux, our version of a kicked-up cream corn. And don’t forget the honey-kissed cornbread.”
WAYS TO PLAY
Chicago Northwest is your hub for recreation, with activities and attractions that entertain all ages, all year long! Discover ways to play with family-friendly outings, a dose of nature, or a great round of golf.
FOR FAMILIES
Schaumburg’s Streets of Woodfield shopping center has a few can’t-miss spots for all ages. LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago is a must for hands-on play. Marvel at a Chicago skyline constructed with LEGO® bricks (1.5 million of them!), thrill with LEGO®-themed rides and 4D movies, and get creative in interactive build areas. Next door, make memories with a cool twist on a family photo sesh at Selfie WRLD with vibrant, interactive backdrops for selfies that pop. Everyone’s a winner at Dave & Buster’s. Teens, tweens, and everyone in between can get in on the action with arcade and VR games. Across the street at Woodfield Mall, level up the gaming experience at ENTERRIUM. This entertainment hub features arcade classics, a pinball alley, billiards, and shorter bowling lanes (perfect for beginners), along with from-scratch dining. For more gaming fun, check out Velocity Esports' arcade games plus PC and console games. Summer in Chicago Northwest brings outdoor family fun. Catch a ballgame at Wintrust Field, home of the Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers. With theme nights, a designated play area, and classic ballpark eats, it’s a relaxing way to experience America’s favorite pastime. When it gets hot, families can cool off at these low-key waterparks: Atcher Island (Schaumburg), Itasca Water Park (Itasca), The Beach Waterpark (Wood Dale), and Rainbow Falls (Elk Grove Village). Athletes should check out Schaumburg’s Olympic Park, home to soccer and softball fields for practice, game, and tournament rentals, along with a sprawling skate plaza and two basketball courts. In Elk Grove Village, Pirates’ Cove at Jack A. Claes Pavilion is perfect for little swashbucklers. Kids can climb aboard Pete’s Pirate Ship and ride the Safari Express, among other attractions. Tip: bring a picnic lunch to avoid a hangry mutiny!
FOR FRESH AIR
A centerpiece of the Chicago Northwest community, Busse Woods is rich in biodiversity and beauty, with an uncommon variety of flatwoods, upland forests, and marshes that make it a National Nature Landmark. Explore the forest preserve via 13 miles of paved trails or rent a kayak or canoe for shoreline views. Don’t miss the Elk Pasture, home to a small elk herd that has thrived here for nearly a century (turn to page 11 for more.)
Encompassing fields, forests, streams, and marshes, Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg intertwines local history and ecology. Learn about native plants and animals with interactive displays, a children’s play area, and a monarch butterfly station. Once a rural German farming community, Volkening Heritage Farm serves as a living history museum. Interpreters in period dress share what farm life was like for homesteaders in the late 19th century, while kids can see livestock and chip in with easy farm chores. Both the Nature Center and Heritage Farm’s gift shops carry nature-themed items and keepsakes.
In Itasca, unplug and get outdoors at Springbrook Nature Center. Here, educational nature programs include creek walks, family full moon hikes, and self-guided activities. Be sure to check out the center's resident raptors! (Registration is required for nature programs.)
Lake Arlington in Arlington Heights is an urban gem. The 50-acre reservoir offers paddle boat, kayak, and sailboat rentals, plus youth kayaking and sailing lessons. Playgrounds and a two-mile paved path are perfect for little ones to play.

Justin Snyder Artistic Director, Opera in Focus
“Opera in Focus is the oldest puppet theater in the Chicagoland area, and the only one in the world that makes this type of puppet. It was developed in Chicago in the 1930s, and we’re continuing that art form today. They’re 16” rod puppets, but they look and move like a real puppet.
We perform operas against sets that were designed by a former movie set designer. When visitors see our show, they feel like they’re watching a real opera on a real stage. We use dimensional building techniques to create an illusion of depth. From the minute you walk into our 65-seat theater, it’s like you’ve walked into a big opera house.
Everything is done by hand, from opening the curtain to controlling the lights. We have regular patrons who don’t even like opera, but they love the craft. You’re transported to this magical world in miniature. It’s an escape.”

Performances are held year-round every Wed. and Sat.

FOR GOLFERS
Grab your clubs, because a great round of golf awaits! Chicago Northwest boasts eight public courses with gorgeous greens and plenty of variety and challenge for players of all levels. Driving ranges and immersive golf experiences offer even more opportunity to practice year-round, no matter the outside temperature.
In Arlington Heights, Nickol Knoll Golf Course is considered one of the best par-3 courses in Chicagoland, thanks to its fun yet challenging layout. Once a Navy missile base, Arlington Lake Golf Club’s recently renovated 90-acre layout features water play on 13 of its 18 holes. In Elk Grove Village, Fox Run Golf Links is a test for both recreational and dedicated golfers. Fox Run Driving Range features 55 hitting stations, a 300-yard venue, and a sand bunker. Salt Creek Golf Club in Wood Dale has tree-lined fairways, the Bar & Grill for post-game beers, and is a lovely setting for weddings, events, and corporate outings. Also in Wood Dale, Maple Meadows Golf Club blends links golf with prairie design and is a hidden gem for its value. Enjoy country club amenities at Schaumburg Golf Club, which was recently rated a Golf Pass National Top 50 Golf Course, and ranks among the top five courses in Illinois with 27 holes.
At Streamwood Oaks Golf Club, water is a feature on every one of its nine holes. The 18-hole championship course at Itasca’s The Golf Club at Eaglewood is a tranquil, scenic course dotted with rolling hills and huge oak trees.

Dave Fazio, Director of Golf Eaglewood Resort and Spa
“Our course was built in 1932. Since then, we’ve only changed our bunkers, so it’s almost the original course. We have elevation changes here, which isn’t the norm for this area. Hole number six is a par-3, 180-yard signature hole. You tee off from an elevated tee, about 20 to 30 feet above the hole. When you look down, you feel like you’re in a completely different area. It’s one of everyone’s favorites. There are no houses on our golf course, either. Eaglewood Resort is tucked away off the beaten path. You feel very secluded, but you’re only 20 minutes from Schaumburg and 30 minutes from O’Hare. You don’t feel that craziness, though. You can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Visitors often say they don’t feel like they’re in the suburbs when they’re here.”
Don’t miss the Sounds of Summer concert series on the Eaglewood patio, every weekend May through September. Enjoy live music, food, drinks, and bocce ball overlooking the golf course.
Retail Therapy
There’s no denying that online shopping is convenient, but nothing beats the touch and feel of the retail experience. Take a digital detox and shop ’til you drop in Schaumburg – the old-school way!
Woodfield Mall
Think malls are a thing of the past? Then you haven’t been to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Spanning more than two million square feet, this is Chicagoland’s largest shopping center. Nearly 300 stores range from Armani Exchange and Anthropologie to Uniqlo, Primark, and Zara.
Streets of Woodfield
This outdoor shopping plaza has an excellent mix of dining, entertainment, and retail, including Crate & Barrel, RH Outlet, LOFT, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and KPOP NARA.
IKEA
Less than one mile away from Woodfield Mall, this is the only three-story IKEA in the world and the largest in the Midwest at nearly 460,000 square feet. Come for the Swedish meatballs – and oh yeah, tons and tons of furniture and home accessories.

Also in Arlington Heights, Javier’s has been serving Mexican classics since 1967; its taco menu ranges from the basics to beef lengua. In Rolling Meadows, Sayulita is a new, upscale Mexican eatery – try the smoked pineapple margarita and shrimp taco with arugula and pickled onion. Inventive tacos are on the menu at My Cocina Grill in Streamwood – options include brisket, chile-garlic shrimp, or the “Three Little Pigs” tacos with bacon, pastor, and carnitas.

In Schaumburg, everything that comes out of the kitchen at the stylish Chicago Prime Italian is made from scratch. In Arlington Heights, La Zingara has been a local favorite for authentic Italian dishes for 25 years and counting. Nearby, Passero has an inventive menu ranging from charred octopus to short rib pappardelle. For wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, check out Bella Napoli or Napoli Per Tutti in Schaumburg, and Marino‘s two locations in Wood Dale and Elk Grove Village.
Steakhouse
There’s nothing like a classic steakhouse experience, and Chicago Northwest delivers. Chicago Prime Steakhouse in Schaumburg is a locally owned and operated family restaurant serving USDA steaks in a highend, old-school atmosphere. Also in Schaumburg, nationally known restaurants like The Capital Grille, Morton’s The Steakhouse, and Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille offer favorites like shrimp cocktail, iceberg wedge salads, and potatoes au gratin. For a totally different view, soar over to Pilot Pete’s – this aviation-themed eatery overlooks the runway at Schaumburg Regional Airport.

Prime Steakhouse
“Chicago Prime Steakhouse has been open since 1999. It’s a proper old-school steakhouse, where everyone is dressed up. Have a martini at the bar, listen to live music, Frank Sinatra’s playing. It’s like a supper club. We’re a family affair. My dad [George Kalkounos, owner/operator], he’s the boss! He immigrated here from Greece and worked his way up in the restaurant business. He’s there every single day with his butcher coat on. We serve only USDA Prime steaks and our seafood is flown in fresh, six days a week. When people come into town and ask, ‘where do the locals go?’, we’re that place. There are very few locally owned and operated restaurants anymore. There’s a different level of care, passion, and commitment when you’re locally owned and operated, and that really matters.”

GARRETT MIX
Garrett Popcorn
Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg
This popcorn purveyor opened in Chicago in 1949, but “The Mix“ didn’t officially make the menu until 1977. This sweet-and-salty combo was inspired by fans who requested empty bags to combine the shop’s CaramelCrisp and CheeseCorn flavors.
MOUTHWATERING BURGERS
Weber Grill Restaurant; Kuma's Corner
Schaumburg
Born in Chicago in 1951, Weber’s iconic kettle-style grills are a favorite of backyard chefs, and the restaurant’s grillmasters serve up elevated cookout fare. For a creative burger menu, check out Kuma’s Corner.
CHICAGO DOGS
Portillo’s Hot Dogs
Five locations
Order like a local and “drag the dog through the garden“ at Portillo’s. In other words, order your dog on a steamed poppy seed bun, topped with mustard, relish, celery salt, onions, tomatoes, sport peppers, and pickle spear.
DEEP DISH PIZZA Giordano’s
Schaumburg and Streamwood
Lou Malnati’s
Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village
The deep dish pizza has been a Chicago favorite since the 1940s. You’ll want a knife and fork for this hearty, sauce-on-top pizza classic.
ITALIAN BEEF
Johnnie’s Beef
Arlington Heights
The Bear may have boosted the popularity of this savory sandwich recently, but it’s been a Chicago favorite for generations. Stop at Johnnie’s to sink your teeth into a soft hoagie roll topped with thin-sliced beef and hot or sweet peppers.
Pour Things
Chicago Northwest knows a thing or two about craft beer. Here are three places to raise a glass.
Pollyanna Brewing Company - Roselare, Roselle
Soon after completing the master brewer program at Germany’s Siebel Institute of Technology, head brewer Brian Pawola co-founded Pollyanna with his business partners, Ryan Weidner and Ed Malnar, in 2014. The brewery now has three locations, including this one in Roselle. They call it Roselare — a combination of Roselle and the Belgian city known for sour beer, Roeselare. Pawola is always experimenting with local fruits and spices, seasonal lagers, and barrel aging. And the Roselare taproom is where you’ll find some of the brewery’s more unique one-off sips, like Henry at Five, a cherry lollipop lager; Lunchbox Tactics, an American lager with orange and amaretto; and the award-winning Orenda Volume 3, a Belgian tripel aged in apple brandy barrels.
One to Try: The Full Lemonty, an award-winning golden ale named after the city where the first Pollyanna opened.
Church Street Brewing Company, Itasca
A former chemical engineer who spent much of his career designing oil refineries around the world, Joe Gregor says a Christmas gift sparked his passion for craft beer. The homebrew kit his wife and kids gave him produced his first five-gallon batch of IPA. Within a few years, he was creating a 30-barrel decoction brewhouse. The centuries-old method of decoction mashing involves moving portions of the mash between two kettles heated to different temperatures. The process is designed to extract subtle flavors from the grain, resulting in light, crisp lagers — like the ones Gregor says he fell in love with while working in southern Germany. In business for 10 years and counting, this family-run brewery (Gregor’s son is now head brewer) offers more than 30 beers on tap.
One to Try: The award-winning Heavenly Helles, decoction brewed for a straw-colored hue and sweet malt character
Mikerphone Brewing, Elk Grove Village
After nursing their passion for homebrewing in their basement, husband-and-wife team Mike and Lisa Pallen opened this craft brewery in 2015. It reflects their love of beer and love of music, too. Vinyl records and album covers adorn the walls of the taproom, and each beer has a music-inspired name. Think Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano, an Italian-style pilsner; Drops of Juniper, a gin-inspired pilsner with cardamom, orange and lemon peel, and juniper; and even Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit, a stout with coffee, maple syrup, and vanilla beans. After a beer and a snack, try your thumbs at one of the brewery’s seven pinball machines. The brewery hosts a pinball tournament the first Thursday of each month. (For more on Elk Grove Village’s pinball history, turn to page 11.)
One to Try: Sir Blends A-Lot, an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels, received a gold medal at the 2021 U.S. Open Beer Championship.
see and be seen In Schaumburg, check out Chicago Improv comedy club and get ready to laugh. (Chicago Improv also hosts open mic nights for aspiring comedians). The Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts (Schaumburg) hosts concerts and other performances. Don’t miss the monthly comedy showcase series Thursday Night Laughs (SeptemberApril), which brings in some of the top comedians from the region’s stand-up scene. In downtown Arlington Heights, the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre hosts concerts, comedians, and Broadway-caliber productions. Upcoming shows include Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (through October 2024), and Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest (February - March 2025). Upon landing at O’Hare, do not take City Taxis, which are waiting in the first lane outside baggage claim, as they will charge you time and a half. Confirm before you get in any car that it is not a City of Chicago taxi. Instead, take a suburban cab to Chicago Northwest. These suburban taxis are cheaper than taking a Chicago licensed taxi in the taxi stand line. Your assigned cab cannot wait for you at the curb, so be sure to have your bags before you call.
Rideshare loading zones are at Terminal 2.
Several Chicago Northwest hotels offer free shuttle service to and from O’Hare. Please call your hotel directly for details.
Rental car companies are located in the Multi-Modal Facility (MMF). To get to the MMF from the terminals or reverse, take the Airport Transit System, which offers fully automated service every 3-5 minutes during peak hours, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Christina Anderson-Heller Director of Marketing, Lynfred Winery
“A perfect afternoon at Lynfred Winery looks like this: Start with a tasting of six wines, then choose a glass or a flight of your favorites from the tasting. We have really educated wine drinkers here because we offer so many different wine varietals. Pair your wine with bites from local producers like Great American Cheese Collection in Chicago, which sources from the best local dairies, or a local chocolatier for a chocolate and wine tasting. Head to the indoor balcony that overlooks the fermentation room and watch wine production happening below.”

Jodi Curry, Owner Cefalù Seaside Sicilian
“My father is Sicilian. Our family took a trip to Sicily and it inspired us to open a Sicilian restaurant. The cuisine is more seafood focused – lots of calamari, squid, and octopus dishes. We also have fresh pastas and steaks. We have a nice swordfish carpaccio that’s unique. You don’t see that on a lot of menus. Our branzino is also terrific. It’s a light dish, with a lemon butter sauce and topped with avocado. Inside the restaurant, it feels like you’re eating alfresco in Italy. We kept everything light. There’s ample amount of patio space, with big doors and windows that open to the main dining area. The space is meant to feel like you’ve been taken away on vacation.”
