The hybrid nature of the Museum of Art and Technology, both museum and production/education facility, provokes an architecture of cross-programming and spatial interweaving. The architectural concept begins with a pliable ribbon that partitions the programming; production spaces to one side (blue) and presentation spaces to the other (gray). The ribbon undulates from side to side as it climbs from the street, floor folding into wall, folding into floor, slipping back gradually to fit the diminishing zoning envelope. With each change of direction the ribbon alternately enfolds a production or presentation space, thus combing together the major program divisions and populations of the building (residents and visitors) as well as their diverse activities and speeds. The ribbon is sometimes sheared and slipped into alignment with a level above or below, thus, conjoining a production and presentation space. The building is designed as a system of controlled contamination.

Bonzai3D Bonzai3d has radial bending tools, by which makes the deformation control. Bonzai3d could be used for modifying the model by different forms, for example, by object, by surface or by curves. Bonzai3d could be used for the surface editing, such as offset surface.

Tutorial 1. Built a riddon shape in Bonzai3d, rectangular width 3.5.thickness0.01,height80.

2. Apply the radial bending tool, bend the riddon 90 degree.

Tutorial 3. Modify the bending curve, by changing the parameters.

4. Changing the bending direction by changing the deformation axis direction.

Tutorial 5. Along with the movement of the mouse, the shape radially bends in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

6. The rotational handle attached at the bottom of axis could be used for manipulating the bending direction.

Tutorial 7. The bending alternative may be executed graphically or numerically, furthermore, this two methods can be freely mixed.

8. The bend angle, which is degreed, specifies the amount of radial bend to be applied.

Tutorial 9. The three buttons in the position option specify the position of the object to be bent.

10. The object could be bent either on the top, bottom or center.

Tutorial 11. The base reference plane allows you to specify the reference plane that will be used as the base plane.

12. The active plane option is the default and use the reference plane from the active window.

Tutorial 13. The XY,YZ and ZX optionsuses the corresponding Cartesian reference planes.

14. the lower and upper text fields determines the lower and upper limts of the deformation box.

Tutorial 15. The show object determines whether the actual object or the bounding box is disaplayed during tracking.

16. The second ribbon shape object ,which in some parts are connected to the first one.

Tutorial 17. The two ribbon shape object are split into two from the top.

18. After the split, these two parts form certain spaces for working and exhibition by bending.

Tutorial 19. Save and export to 3d studio file.

20. Open the 3dstudio file and modify the model.

Tutorial 21. The model could be modified by modifying the curves.

22. The model could be bilt by modifying the surface.

23. The model could be modified by transformation.

Tutorial 24. Offset the surface.

25. Blend the surface.

26. Export the model to 3d studio and import to Bonzai 3d.

Re-modeling of the Eyebeam Institute Software:

Bonzai 3d + Solid Thinking

Conclusion

The Bonzai 3D is really convenient in terms of deformation, such as bending, tapering and so on. You could use not only the on-screen control, but also the palette to manipulate the modelling process.

The solid thinking could be used for controlling and blending surface easily. Furthermore, solid thinking has more potentials in terms of the new morphogenesis form generation technology, which allows product designers and architects to explore virtually countless forms and shapes that would be created by nature.
