Together we´ve travelled the world for many years constantly searching for perfect trails and the best powder descents. We have discovered many fantastic spots and perfect runs even in the most remote locations on this planet. It wasn´t always easy finding the right equipment for our trips. It was particularly hard to find backpacks and bags on the market that met our requirements. So our solution was to make them ourselves!

BIKING IN SURFERS’ PARADISE “Bali is a huge playground for biking enthusiasts! I’m currently building a bike park in the jungle and keep finding more trails on the crater rim of the volcano”, gushed our partner Alex, who owns the cool “Chillhouse” hotel. Volcano? Bali? Sounds exciting. We’re on our way. Bali is known for its exotic scenery and laid-back atmosphere, for terrific surfing, stunningly beautiful yoga retreats and now also for a creative lifestyle. But mountain biking? A few weeks later we found ourselves shouldering our mountain bikes in the blazing heat of Bali on the Eastern crater edge of the Batur volcano. The inspiration for this torturous undertaking: the incredible sunrise! 8

We follow a winding path past a mystical temple. Deep grooves have formed in the sandy trail in front of us, and it’s becoming narrower, steeper and more pathless by the minute. There is no chance of remembering a good line for the downhill ride. Our headlamps illuminate the steep, slippery crater peak when we finally reach the 1717 metre high top. In fact, the moon beat us to it. The next morning, a band of curious little monkeys wakes us up by scratching our tent. With a spicy noodle soup breakfast we really do get to experience one of the most beautiful sunrises ever.The downhill ride then forces us to shift into a high

concentration gear – only the flip-flop wearing locals know their way around the rutted curves and the labyrinth of shortcuts. Hand over hand we make our way from bend to bend, and the smiles on our faces become broader and broader. Smooth and flowing, and then exciting and steep again – the volcano trail turns out to be a true highlight. But this is only the beginning of our Bali bike trip. The airflow during our downhill rides provides relief from the 35-degrees heat. In the evening we gather at the beach, happy and exhausted. We relive our adventurous downhill ride – while the locals surf into the sunset. Actually, how about going surfing? After all, that’s what Bali is famous for. 9

FR SUPERTRAIL BOLIVIA Travelling and searching for the perfect trail is part of our history. Near Bolivia’s capital La Paz we found a bike spot that’s truly worthy of the “Supertrail” label. We started out at 3803 metres height: It’s cold. The air is thin, we’re almost breathless, and the landscape is stunning. What follows are 1171 metres of downhill riding on a truly amazing single trail. We are dedicating a limited edition, FR SUPERTRAIL BOLIVIA, to this trail.

The AIR FLOW CONTACT SYSTEM distributes weight neutrally across the body’s centre of gravity and minimises the contact surface with the back and shoulders to enhance air circulation. The EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR combines maximum impact protection, super light weight, a very effective construction as well as superb flexibility. Plus, it’s totally immune to temperature changes.

Materials and protection features have been tested and certified by TÜV SÜD according to the EU standards 89/686/EWG for personal safety gear, category 2 (PSA).

CE - NORM EN 1621-2 To prove compliance with these standards, a tapered, 5 kg test weight drops onto the protector from 1 metre height. To meet the requirements, the generated impact force of the steel body of 150 – 180 kN must be slowed down to an average residual force of a maximum of 18 kN. Reaching a residual force of only 9,75 kN, the EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR offers damping capabilities which are almost twice as effective as the standards require.

The typical shock absorption curve is relatively pointed for most protectors so the impact energy hits the body in a very direct manner. The EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR, however, offers a segmented layer construction to guarantee perfect damping. The absorption curve is very flat. The impact force is distributed onto a series of elements and thus, onto a larger area, which helps considerably reduce the direct impact onto the wearer’s body.

LITESHIELD SYSTEM The heart of the system is the extra-wide, ergonomically shaped 01 neoprene hip belt with Velcro fastening and large heavy-duty buckles, which transfers the main load to the hips, thereby positioning the pack optimally at the body’s centre of gravity. The ergonomically designed shoulder straps keep the backpack comfortably in place.

Proximity to the body is important for 02 back protectors, and this has been optimized for maximum possible ventilation by way of air mesh elements, EVA pads with ventilation holes and a large ventilation channel in the centre. XS

In addition to the large, central ventilation channel, the close-fitting back area has been equipped with 2 rows of “ventilation grids”: EVA foam strips 02 with ventilation holes and an air mesh covering, together with a special, oblique gabled groove reduce the contact area with the back, thereby enhancing the circulation of air. The extra-wide, ergonomically shaped hip belt 01 on this carrying system is made from highly elastic, looped fabric, which provides the necessary sturdiness as well as maximum air permeability. In this way, the main load is transferred to the hips, where it is fixed, while optimum breathability is ensured – even in the case of fully laden backpacks.

Yet, following that severe low during the third stage, it’s going better and better for us every day. Thoroughly enthusiastic, we are riding some perfect trails through the amazingly beautiful African countryside, and despite the effort and struggles we continue to rediscover the joy of cycling that has brought us here in the first place. When we cross the finishing line on the last day after a total of 739 kilometres and 16,000 metres of vertical gain, we are overwhelmed by our emotions. It’s unbelievable, we made it! Finishers at the Cape Epic – how good is that?

finished! TEAM EVOC at the ABSA CAPE EPIC 2015 Oh yes, it’s certainly tough – especially for Tino. He didn’t get much sleep the night before due to stomach problems, and he was still unable to eat before the start this morning. Not necessarily the perfect situation for the upcoming stage, which, with a distance of 128 kilometres and a difference in altitude of 2800 metres, is the longest of this year’s Cape Epic race! We’ve been pushing ourselves through the dust and across passes for more than four hours, and we have not even mastered half of the stage. Amidst a small olive grove – the thermometer shows almost 41 degrees – it happens: Tino just stops and sits down on the ground without saying a word. Was that it? Will we have to give up? 68

All we want to achieve here is to finish the race. We aim to reach the finishing line of this ultra-tough stage race, test the field performance of our new CC 3l RACE backpack and above all, we want to show what’s possible if you have the right attitude. Because both team members have a uniqueness factor: Tino Kaessner is a former professional soldier who lost his right lower leg during a military action in Afghanistan. I, Jan Sallawitz, am marketing manager at EVOC, and I’ve never taken part in a mountain bike marathon race before. After a short breather Tino fortunately manages to ride on. With great effort and intense support indeed, we finally do make it to the finishing line after more than eight hours. Exceptionally long stages with extreme changes in weather and trail conditions make each day in itself an extreme challenge. Both our bodies and the material have to perform perfectly in order to withstand the constant strain. And particularly when it comes to mental strength, it’s important to find new motivation every single day. This is anything but an easy task when you look at the terrifying route profiles with a daily average of 100 kilometres and a bit more than 2000 metres elevation gain!

02 2 SEPARATE WHEEL COMPARTMENTS ON THE SIDES The stabiliser rods over the tyres and rims distribute pressure from the exterior over the side areas, so spokes or brake discs aren’t bent. Several plastic plates prevent the axles of the wheels from protruding through the material.

Actually, we should prove one day that we girls also live and breathe the EVOC philosophy.” This statement was to mark the beginning of our project – a bike trip to Bali with photographers and the whole shebang. We had been planning and organising this adventure since last year’s Eurobike trade show, and a few months later we were finally about to set off. This was my first air travel with the bike, and the packing part was already exciting. Thanks to the packing instructions, though, everything went surprisingly fast, and after only a few minutes my bike was securely stowed. Action sports photography has always been an integral part of EVOC’s history, and it soon became obvious that there was no way around developing our own PHOTO backpack collection.

PHOTO TECHNOLOGY

NEUTRALITE SYSTEM Designed for ambitious to professional use, the new NEUTRALITE SYSTEM is a carrying system for high-capacity backpacks, which means that even heavier loads can be carried in a more balanced way and as comfortably as possible for a longer period of time. Back adaption and weight distribution are guaranteed by the shapeable stabilising element on the inside, which transfers the weight onto a wide, thickly padded hip belt 01 via segmented and strategically positioned padding elements. In this way, the weight is absorbed

as neutrally as possible at the bodyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s centre of gravity. Exceptionally wide, air-permeable, ergonomically shaped shoulder straps 02 with a deep cut-out around the neck keep the backpack in position at all times and prevent it from slipping and sliding even during high-performance activities. Practical cut-outs in the spinal region ensure unrestricted freedom of movement of the vertebrae, while preventing weight distribution onto the sensitive back area.

AIR CIRCULATION AIR CIRCULATION is featured in all our PHOTO / CAMERA backpacks, because it guarantees perfect ventilation even during high-sweat and high-strain activities, and at the same time prevents the sensitive kidney area from cooling down too much. Lateral cut-outs along the channel enable even more air to flow out. In addition, the padding along the sides of the back has been reduced to further optimise air outflow.

However, the sensitive back area is protected against lateral wind thanks to the padding of the NEUTRALITE SYSTEM. Not only do the pads form the channel to facilitate vertical ventilation, they also protect the wearer from horizontal air inflow and cold kidneys.

AIRO FLEX AIRO FLEX is an extremely durable fabric that is both air-permeable and flexible. We use this material in our highest-quality hip belts, where

Very early in the season we rode the ‘Stoneman Trail’ in the Sextner Dolomite Alps. A few days before it had still been covered in snow, and the weather forecast was discouragingly bad. Not exactly the best preconditions for a photo shoot in high alpine terrain at 2800 metres above sea level. We trusted our gut feeling, though, and started out really early in the morning. But the sunrise light we had hoped for just didn’t happen, and it was freezing cold, too. We still entered the trail however, in strong wind and the last of the rain, and look what we got: the cloud cover actually cleared after a short while and we got to enjoy an incredible atmosphere in extreme weather against the terrific backdrop of the Dolomite Alps. The fabrics we use are highly functional: They enable the air to circulate while avoiding moisture absorption.
