INFORMATION CLIENT Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. 377,125 sq. ft. / 35,035 sq. m.
Inspired by the form and function of cruise ships, the design of Royal Caribbean’s headquarters reinforces the company’s brand while providing much needed new office space for a growing staff. Located adjacent to the company’s cruise terminal on PortMiami, the building creates a new waterfront landmark while strengthening Royal Caribbean’s presence at the world’s largest passenger port. The building itself becomes a destination.
01
ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE LINE HEADQUARTERS Miami, Florida
The building’s boomerang shape allows natural daylight to reach deep into the floor plates. Tracing the building’s sinuous form, the edge of each floor extends out 3 to 12 feet to create horizontal shading devices. Accessible terraces are located in zones facing downtown, along the three-story sky garden, around the executive floor and in the southeast corner with views toward the ocean. At night, the building’s edges will be illuminated with LED lighting, emphasizing the curvilinear form and creating a dramatic beacon on the water. Inspired by the hospitality-oriented and experiencedriven cruise industry, the interior environment supports Royal Caribbean’s brand ethos. An open workplace plan facilitates collaboration across departments. Interior stairs follow the building’s curves. Other amenities include an auditorium, training rooms and two cafeterias. Connected by a verdant courtyard with native plantings and pedestrian paths, the adjacent parking garage features edges and curves that echo those of the office building. A basketball court, soccer field and track located atop the parking garage provide recreation and wellness areas for employees. Anticipating the impact of climate change and rising sea levels, the resilient design elevates most of the building program and critical equipment. The lobby is more than 15 feet above sea level. Key mechanical equipment is 20 feet above sea level in a mezzanine deck. The plan allows for an expanded dock along the site’s southwest edge, with the building set back 10 feet to create a natural barrier of trees and landscape.

TOM TOM MAGAZINE HEADQUARTER
CONCEPT STATEMENT
HISTORY
Tom Tom Magazine is a multimedia organization that intends to raise awareness about female percussionists from all over the world and hope to inspire women and girls of all ages to drum, all while strengthening and building the community of otherwise fragmented female musicians. Located in the multicultural Brooklyn, the new Tom Tom Magazine headquarter, which combines offices, retail, performance venue and bar, will be an excellent place for female drummers and music fans to communicate and share their interests. My intention is to express feminism in the design, the concept started with a representative female space -- the dressing room. Historically, women were always required to wear particular and torturous costumes in formal occasions, such as corsets, high heels and long dress over ankle. Otherwise they would be regarded as immoral women. Same things even happen today. Women are always judged by their appearance and wearing. The concept of dressing room will provide a space for women to be whatever they want regardless of others’ judgements. I focused on the basic element of dressing room—curtain dividers. The concept of dressing room is translated into a series of curtains and continual wall systems in the space. The system can create body movements of withdrawing curtains, which have the metaphor of revealing a new appearance after getting out of the dressing room. In the interior space, a series of fabric curtains with different scales, materials and acoustic effects are distributed to divide space, sound, and time.

RETAIL SPACE
The retail part takes every element of a real dressing room. The drum kits and published magazines are hung under the coat hanger like in clothing retail store so that visitors can view them easily. In the cenral part of the retail store, there is an exhibition area for two sets of whole kits. They are surrounded by a secial metal balls curtian witch can produce nice sounds by swinging. The curve wall is decorated by soft fabric cushiosn to achieve acoustics requirement in the store.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
The aim of this incubator is offer the young and developing companies space and assitant to cultivate their own bussiness. Every day there will be different kinds of people with various background come here to start their own works. When different groups of people meet, new ideas might come out. It is one of the most charming charators of incubator, the birth place of new ideas. Thus the key word of this design is Symbiosis system and cross-pollination,which can provide more possiblity for different group of people to meet new people and communicate with each other. The design concept is combining entertainment space with work space. When people are eating or playing games, they are more likely to communicate with others. Breaking down the large entertainment space into small pieces and inserting them into work space can create more opportunities for menberships to communicate with each other. When they are tired, they can easily find a place to rest and talk with their workmate, which can provide more opportunites for new ideas.
SITE ANALYSIS
The company is considering offices in Industrial City in Brooklyn. In the last few years, Sunset Park’s Industry City, a 16-building complex along 3rd Ave has become a hub for artist studios and manufacturing bases for local food purveyors and makers, as well as outposts of large companies like Time Inc. The complex has seen increasingly more foot traffic, too, with popular dance parties in the summer and now the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg through the winter.

YOSHIKAZU ONO'S SUSHI RESTAURANT
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Making sushi is a lot more complex and subtle a specialty than people might usually think. Skilled sushi chefs who prepare truly authentic Japanese sushi go through years of rigorous training, often up to 10 years, to become an itamae, or sushi master. And the art of sushi making demands creativity in order to build a distinct and memorable sushi menu and reputation. Therefore the most important part of a sushi resturant is the sushi bar, where the chef can preform his or her skills and prepare the guets with the tasty sushi. Beside Lake Ashi, this sushi resturant, designed for Yoshikazu Ono, provides all the guests with an excellent place to enjoy the beautiful mountain view and delicious sushi. The design concept comes from the famous painting Vermeer's "Girl with the Pearl Earring", in which the girl is the attention center of the paiting. The dark shadow and background make the gril even more eye-catching and impressive. Inspired by this painting, the lighting design ans special structure design which reflect light use the same strategies, to emphasize the sushi bar as the center of the whole space. It is a stage where Yoshikazu show his amazing skills. The materials selection idea also comes from the famous painting, using liggt bright material to make the sushi bar, darker materials for surrounding area.
LOCATION Hakone, west of tokyo, is a mountainous town known for its hot springs resorts and views of Mount Fuji.

PREFAB FUNCTIONAL WALLSCAPE
TEST MODEL
The aim of this project is to design a series of wall modules. They can be freely combined into different groups and serve multiple functions, like seating, table, and shelves. The basic idea about this project is foldable furniture, which can be folded into functional geometry from 2-dimensional panels. The magnetic snaps make these panels easily removed and replaced. Users can design their own functional walls depending on their personal needs. The triangle structures make all these modules super strong and stable.
