Don’t miss the 2023 Telstra Women in Ag Luncheon The Telstra Women in Ag Luncheon at Farm World is an event that cannot be missed. This year’s event at Lardner Park on Farm World Friday 24th March from 12:00pm - 2:45pm promises to be one of the best in its history. Guests will hear from some inspirational speakers and connect with a room full of amazing women.

This year’s luncheon will feature two fabulous speakers with very different backgrounds. They will engage, inspire and motivate you with their personal and professional journeys. Their stories are from the heart and will challenge you to think outside the box, believe in your abilities and provide some real life, day to day experiences - both the trials and celebrations.

KATY BROWN After 22 years of full-time farming rare breed pigs through some turbulent times, there is not much that Katy hasn’t been faced with. The focus on conservation and dealing with the many challenges of working with small gene pools has been a steep learning curve. Like many farmers, it seems there is always something to deal with including fire, flood, drought, closure of 3 domestic abattoirs, the threat of African Swine Fever, the current endemic Japanese Encephalitis Virus outbreak and the heightened threat of Foot-and-mouth Disease, it seems that there has never been a greater need for conservation despite these real-world challenges. On a personal level Katy suffers with a number of autoimmune diseases but is determined not to be defined by these or giving up what she does. Katy, along with her mum Norma, have bred Highland Ponies under the Senlac Prefix since 1974. She breeds Dartmoor ponies, has a Caspian mare and in the past has bred Lincoln sheep, Highland Cattle and Scottish Terriers. A commercial herd of Angus cattle are also run on the West Gippsland farm.

It’s an afternoon for fabulous networking in a casual and charismatic environment over a delicious lunch and a glass of wine. So grab your friends, round up your colleagues and book your tickets online now. Tickets : $70* pp includes entry to Farm World, lunch and beverage on arrival *plus booking fee – visit lardnerpark.com.au

She is past president of the Victorian Branch of the APBA, President of Highland Ponies Australia, Vice President of the Australian Dartmoor Owners and Breeders Group, Pig Species Coordinator with the Rare

Breeds Trust. Katy has two kids, is proud to be a farmer and food producer and believes she couldn’t have done it without the mentoring, support and compassion of some extraordinary women.

Christensens Motorcycles – Gippsland’s local ATV specialist The business now known as Christensens Motorcycles was started in 1923 and purchased by the Christensen family in 1937. The business has had only five owners since 1923. Steve and Helen Cooper and their sons Travis and Alec purchased Christensens Motorcycles in 1999. This year marks their 24th year and they look forward to servicing the area for many years to come. Christensens Motorcycles has been attending Farm World since 1999 and you can be sure to expect the same high level of service and the same familiar faces at the event this year including proprietor Steve Cooper and his locally based staff. Through Christensens Motorcycles, Steve supports a large number of local clubs, charities and community events through donations each year. The business employs local staff and purchases its supplies from local businesses where possible. These local staff and businesses then support other local businesses to create a strong local economy. Money spent in West Gippsland businesses circulates throughout the region many times, stimulating the economy over and over.

From left, Steve and Travis Cooper from Christensens Motorcycles will be on hand at Farm World 2023. In many cases money spent outside West Gippsland never returns to the district. When considering your motorcycle needs, Steve encourages you to keep your money local and support Christens-

even implementing strategies to simply bring forward expenses can provide significant benefits and should be considered. We can help you to reduce your tax in 2023 – giving you more money back for: l Family holidays l Reducing debt llCapital improvements l Off farm investment GP1654046 l Topping up your superannuation By forecasting your GP1654046 expected 2023 income and tax payable for all individuals and entities

in your family group, we can then develop strategies to “spread” your income across your family group in the most tax effective way – and legally reduce your tax. Our planning will help you show the dollars and cents you can save with the right tax strategies which can include: l Temporary full expensing for asset purchases up until the 30th June l Prepaying expenses l Deferring income l Farm management deposits lnSuperannuation contributions Combined with tax planning, it’s always worth reviewing your business structures and succession ideas too. There are various tax rollovers and tax con-

cessions that can be used to restructure inefficient business structures without triggering any Capital Gains Tax implications. Often, taxpayers establish business structures that are no longer effective due to changes and growth. Starting a new business structure effective from 1 July 2023 is the perfect time. Talk to us TODAY and book in your Tax Planning meeting. The sooner we get started; the sooner we can help you save tax. We need to do this well before 30 June 2023 to allow enough time to implement tax saving strategies. Abe Schuback CPA Principal Phillipsons AGRI GROUP

At Bulla they are proud of their products developed using 113 years of experience in crafting the best of Australian Dairy into a wide range of creams, ice creams, yoghurt and fresh cheeses for families across Australia and around the world to enjoy. In 1910, Thomas Sloan established the Bulla Cream Company in the Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds. Thomas pioneered a new method of thickening cream, which involved pasteurising in open cans in wood fired copper. Thomas’ brother, William, supplied the milk from his dairy farm in

Bulla, and together created the famous thickened cream and distributed it into the city by horse and cart. Before long, Thomas’ brother-in-law Hugh, and Hugh’s brother Jack wanted a dollop of the action and they – along with Hugh’s daughter and son in law – soon made up the three families that launched Bulla into its years of success. The Sloan’s, Anderson’s and Downey’s still operate the business today. Bulla remains one of Australia’s largest family-owned dairy producers, and the brand now operates out of the

country Victorian town of Colac. The rich, fertile Victorian soil provides pure, creamy milk by the bucket load, and this facilitates the growth of the Bulla brand and the diversity of Bulla dairy products. To support the continued growth of the Bulla business, they are looking to partner with even more milk suppliers in the coming season. The Field Services team invite you to meet with them at site LS42, or contact the Gippsland Field Services Manager, Allison Potter on 0427 952 415 – they would love to hear from you.

Industry leading off-grid power systems tailored for you by the experts.

Living off grid is easy

Off-Grid Energy Australia has specialised in off-grid power systems since it was founded in 2011 and has installed over 1200 off-grid systems. Vic Manager and CEC Accredited Designer Aaron Lewtas said that by sticking with what they do best – off-grid battery systems - their team has honed a unique and expert knowledgebase over many years. “There’s a big difference between installing a standard solar system and designing a reliable off-grid system, which provides an essential service – power to your home,” Mr Lewtas said,

“We know what it takes to provide hassle-free independent power, and the ongoing commitment that requires. Which is why we offer 24/7 after-sales tech support.” “We have plenty of local customers who are very happy to chat about their experience with us and about living off the grid.” Off-Grid Energy is a CEC Approved Solar Retailer, has signed on to the Solar Retailer Code of Conduct, and Mr Lewtas said their quality assurance process is industry leading. “Before one of our systems gets to your home

to be installed by our accredited installers, it has already gone through a design review, preassembly, programming and rigorous testing in our workshop” he said. “Modern off-grid systems can power anything these days, from small houses to large luxury homes and even commercial operations, which means independent power is proving to be cheaper than grid power for more and more people.” The Off-Grid Energy team will be available at their stand in the Baw Baw Pavilion to answer your questions.

Don’t buy a new fireplace until you have seen the Kemlan range One of Australia’s longest running fireplace manufacturers, Kemlan was established in Brisbane in 1969 and, today still make all their slow combustion heaters and accessories right here in Australia. Built to handle the hottest Australian hardwood, Kemlan use 6mm to 8mm Australian steel for the fireboxes and a specially designed lifetime ceramic baffle so you’ll get the most out of your wood and your heater. All the Kemlan fireplaces

also have a unique air-wash system that circulates hot air to clean the glass window for a beautifully clear view of the fireplace. Lighting a Kemlan fire is easy too…their one-step process means your fire is heating your house faster. That’s right…load it up, throw in a match, close the door and walk away. But best of all is that their range offers something for everyone from sleek contemporary designs to small compact units to builtin options to super XL sized

fireplaces capable of heating up to 360m2. All the bases and flue accessories, including their own turned (not welded) cowl, are made by Kemlan as well and all backed by a 10-year warranty. The Kemlan range of wood heaters offer amazing design, functionality and efficient heating properties. Come and see the collection of Kemlan Wood Fireplaces at the String & Salt Home Expo in Lardner Park Events Centre at Farm World 2023.

From left, John Darcy and Richard Versteegen Farm Safety Advisors at VFF Making Our Farms Safer project. The Victorian Farmers Federation has worked tirelessly in the past few years to assist farmers improve their farm safety knowledge and practices through it’s Making our Farms Safer project. John Darcy and Richard Versteegen put their combined experience of 68 years in workplace health and safety to deliver the project and have been pleasantly surprised with the uptake from the farming community. “The project is funded by the Department of Agriculture from July 2020 through to July 2023, designed to assist all Victorian farmers, not just VFF members,” Senior Farm Safety Advisor John Darcy said. “Since we started, we have visited over 200 farms as part of our one- onone farm safety visits. We start a typical farm visit at dining table, talking through legal obligations and providing a number of resources free of charge.

Then we do the walk around of the sheds. The typical farm visit is around three and a half to four hours. We also attend field days and run engagements with farmers at events of our own. We’ve clocked up over 110 speaking engagements. Mr Darcy explained. “It’s all about how we influence the culture and engage with industry that is really important. The response has been amazing”, Mr Darcy said. The project shares farm safety updates through its dedicated website, podcast, a monthly newsletter, social media channels and videos on YouTube. You can catch up with Farm Safety Advisor Richard Versteegen in the Baw Baw Pavillion at Farm World. If you would like to contact the project go to www.makingourfarmssafer.org. au/get-in-touch/

Whitlands Engineering celebrate 30 years in business

Superaxe is a regional Australian manufacturing success story, making light work of your firewood.

AUSTRALIA’S TOUGHEST HYDRAULIC LOG SPLITTERS. SEE THE FULL RANGE ONLINE

Rural manufacturing company Whitlands Engineering is celebrating it’s 30th year of business throughout 2023 – marking also a decade of continuous growth despite the challenges facing regional business and the pandemic. Located in a rural farming area in North East Victoria, the company designs and man-

DESIGNED & BUILT IN NORTH EAST VICTORIA

ufactures Australia’s leading brands of log splitters and firewood processors – Superaxe and Rex. Beginning with the famed Superaxe in 1993, David Burder (now head designer & CEO) had the design ready to go but no experience running a business but persevered with remarkable success. Through exposure at local field days, word of mouth and a truly innovative product, Whitlands Engineering expanded, even through the drought and the GFC. These days the business has three manufacturing sites, 32 staff, export to NZ and the USA in their sights.

David is wholly committed to employing local people & manufacturing in North East Victoria. Despite the temptation for cheaper production overseas, this decision has now become the cornerstone of the company philosophy and is fundamental to its success, longevity and reputation. David says ‘local manufacturing keeps money in the local economy, supports our employees and their families and most importantly keeps integrity in the manufacturing process. To say we are Australian Made means more than anything’. The other ingredient in the success is through their innovative design

and benchmark manufacturing standards. They’re truly made to last. Beyond that, ergonomic design is key, making the backbreaking task of splitting wood simple and comfortable – the operator always has a straight back and lifting is eliminated with hydraulic log lifters fitted as standard. The Superaxe has certainly proven itself over 30 years as Australia’s leading log splitter, setting new standards in performance, design and safety innovation. Col from Bridgewater, Vic, used Steinfort AgVet ‘Pelvic Lift’ to save his cow. Hi John, a quick update on cow. Been improving every day, and yesterday arvo she stood on 4 legs, without any weight being held by tractor. Today she walked away from tractor with pelvic lifter on, not ideal but caught me off guard. Very unexpected. So, I walked up behind her and backed it off a couple of threads then pulled the R pin out.

She is now walking around paddock unassisted. It’s amazing how well your lifter worked, it has saved this cow… Cheers, Col John Steinfort BVSc Steinfort AgVet Pty Ltd 3/15 June Court, Warragul Vic 3820 Phone: 0428 595 957 Email: johns@steinfortagvet.com.au web: www.steinfortagvet.com.au

Graham Wood Machinery Deep sub-soil tillage and top-soil cultivation in one pass ‘Fix Rehabilitator Plough’

The Fix Rehabilitator Plough available from Graham Wood Machinery

It lifts and cracks, aerates and penetrates like no other implement. Use the Rehabilitator Plough instead of rippers, chisel ploughs, discs, rotary hoes or power harrows. The Fix Rehabilitator plough is designed to loosen and lift the soil by allowing the soil to crack along natural lines. The Tusk rollers till the top-soil producing a seed-bed and leaving the soil loose and aerated and able to capture and hold moisture. Features: ● Relatively low Horsepower requirement ● Machines are available from 1.5 metres to 6.0 metres ● Linkage and trailed ● Extra sturdy frame. The parabolic tines can penetrate up to 500 mm, and are fitted with reversible chisel points. The two rear tusk rollers have a levelling mechanism and height adjustment. Soil is lifted, the surface is cultivated, and crop residue is partially incorporated to speed-up decomposition. Often cereal crops, legumes and maize can be re-seeded after a one pass cultivation. Most beneficial organisms in the soil are aerobic; most detrimental organisms in the soil are anaerobic. Good aer-

Colostrum prices paid to Farmers are many multiples of the milk price. Farmers who have quality Colostrum over the calving season in excess to their herd’s requirement are making extra returns by selling their colostrum. When Colostrum pays at multiples of the milk price, it makes commercial sense to sell any excess Colostrum. South Gippsland Dairy (SGD) is a family run business based in South Gippsland producing Australia’s only farm to finished colostrum products. SGD product range goes to specialised local and international markets. South Gippsland Dairy (SGD) has been collecting colostrum from Farmers including their own farm since 2016, with no detriment to the milking herd. SGD started the business 6 years ago wanting to give Australian Farmers, a new opportunity to generate extra income. SGD supplies the required equipment for on-farm collection of colostrum, at no cost to the farmer, with a system that may suit any size of farm. SGD are expanding their product sales. They are looking for more suppliers in 2023, and so would appreciate to hear from any

GOOD NEWS FOR LANDHOLDERS... FARM FORESTRY GRANTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!

Under the Gippsland Farm Forestry Program, VicForests are offering grants to successful applicants to help establish trees on farms to contribute to future timber supplies.

Farm forestry at Farm World

Would a program that integrates timber trees into your whole farm plan be of interest to you? Or are you a landowner looking to establish plantations to diversify income streams?

CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS VicForests is establishing a farm forestry program in Gippsland for landholders. The program encourages the expansion of farm forestry plantations to help address future timber and fibre requirements. The program will focus on the establishment of suitable tree species, either within plantations or integrated with an agricultural enterprise. Grants will be awarded through an application process. Grant applications open on 13 March 2023 and close on 14 of April 2023. Further information is available at VicForests website: www.vicforests.com.au/farm-forestry

Lardner Park, the home of Farm World, also hosts the oldest agroforestry demonstration site in Victoria, established forty-five years ago. Situated only 400 metres from the Farm World exhibitor area, various timber species have been planted and harvested over this time and many tours of this site have been conducted. VicForests and Lardner Park are working with Gippsland Agroforestry Network, a group of people with a special interest in producing, converting, and marketing farm-grown timber, to reinvigorate

the demonstration site. The first year of the Gippsland Farm Forestry Program (202223) has focused on the establishment of demonstration sites, with grants awarded to selected participants, whom are now in the process of establishing their plantations. A new round of grants is now open and application forms will be available at the VicForests Farm Forestry stand at Farm World (Site 543), or online at ww.vicforests.com.au/ farm-forestry. Come and talk to the team at Farm World to learn more about the program.

Or contact us at vfs.farmforestry@vicforests.com.au

As the old saying goes, the best time to plant trees was 20 years ago, and the second-best time is this year. Under the Gippsland Farm Forestry Program, VicForests are offering grants to successful applicants to help establish trees on farms to contribute to future timber supply. The program seeks to support the integration of timber trees within the context of a whole farm plan, ensuring these trees play a vital role in improving the broad range of economic, environmental, social, and cultural values within and around the farming landscape.

Managing livestock movements, joining and calving dates, welfare management like drenching and vaccination dates often stretches the memory or leads to a lot of paperwork at the end of the day. Australian Mapping owner Sam Baulch has now simplified the entire process with his recently released app, FARMap. “One of the main reasons I wanted to develop FARMap was for dairy, sheep and beef farmers,” said Mr Baulch. “They normally have a big whiteboard in the shed with the map of the farm and that is their communication tool.” FARMap will either replace or enhance that whiteboard.” For the past 14 years Mr Baulch has been working with farmers to map their farm accurately and has mapped over 400 farms in that time. “Great savings can be made by accurately knowing the paddock areas and cutting down mistakes made by contractors when they work with a good map.” he said. Three years ago Mr Baulch started looking into developing an app and subsequently employed an app developer to develop FARMap.

While development has been slower and much more involved than expected, Mr Baulch is still excited to see the app released to the market on computer, IOS and android. “I was asking my clients what program they used for livestock and paddock record keeping and many told me the programs they looked at were too complicated, and they couldn’t be bothered entering data into the computer when they got back home at night” he said. The app can be used on multiple devices so it can be shared with everyone on the farm. An icon will show on the paddock map where the livestock are, and data can be entered on the go with any device and instantly updated to all other devices on the farm. The idea is that farmers will be able to map their own farm within the app from a Google maps image, or upload an existing map previously produced by Mr Baulch. Mr Baulch started Australian Mapping in 2009 after realising many farmers did not have accurate maps of their own farms. “I saw that a lot of farmers did not have a decent

map of their farm, but only had a mud map which was so inaccurate,” he said. Accurate maps enable more accurate application of fertiliser, chemicals and stocking rates, ultimately saving money and resulting in better management of the farm. Much like an accurate map can save money and time, Mr Baulch expects FARMap will do the same when it comes to audit time for farmers, producing reports in pdf format with the ability to email the report straight from the phone. “Instead of hunting around through paperwork, farmers will be able to use FARMap,” he said. “It is easy to input data and to produce reports.” The recently released app will enable farmersVR4349034 to have their farm map on their phone and computer linked to each other and all staff related to their business. All paddock and livestock treatments and movements can then be recorded with the information always with them and synced with any other person on the farm. It is the start of a new era at Melbourne’s Scotch College this year with the appointment of Dr Scott Marsh as the 10th principal of the school. Dr Marsh was welcomed into the Scotch family by members of the community, mixing with boarders and their families on the first week back at school. A service was held in the college’s Memorial Hall officially marking the event. Paying tribute to the previous principals and acknowledging the strength of the Scotch family, Dr Marsh highlighted the importance of community and relationships in overcoming the modern challenges

of mental health and individualism. Dr Marsh has a Bachelor of Music Education from Sydney University, a Master’s in Education Curriculum and Administration Studies from Deakin University. He also has a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Macquarie University. He has developed a vision for education that encourages innovation, independent thought, excellence and a sense of service, along with inclusivity and respect for all members of the community. The Scotch College Boarding precinct — known as “The Hill” — will host some exciting events this year.

The new senior wing of McMeckan and School Houses will be opened providing single-room accommodation for years 11 and 12 boarding students, and the Parents’ Retreat will be unveiled — an innovative hub for parents to relax, mingle and enjoy time visiting their sons when in Melbourne. Both facilities are due to be opened in the first half of the year. The major building project highlights the commitment the college has made to its boarding community. • To find out more, visit the school’s display at Farm World or check scotch.vic.edu.au

Biostart: Biological technology makes better forage

Biostart is an Australasian biostimulant company who have been developing biostimulants for 29 years. Extensive testing in the field, in partnership with farmers, means the results can be relied on and the products are practical to use. Biostart forage preservatives, HayKing, SilageKing, and now MaizeKing, are all used straight from the drum and the open drums can be used again in the following days. The products can be stored at room temperature because they do not contain live microbes and are non-corrosive to machinery.

Their biological hay preservative, HayKing, is made from a combination of microbial fermentation extracts that inhibit hay decomposition microbes – ensuring bales store better, remain cooler and results in better feed quality. HayKing works by inhibiting the growth of the yeasts and fungi that use up feed energy, heat bales and produce mycotoxins that affect animal health. This means baling can be done at slightly higher moisture levels. The fermentation technology used to create the biological silage products, SilageKing and

MaizeKing, ensures a palatable forage that retains high ME that stores. It works by suppressing the yeasts and fungi that cause spoilage, while at the same time activating the beneficial bacteria in grass and cereal forage to produce ensiling lactic and acetic acid. Australian Ag Sales manager Nick Smyth will be joined by NZ Ag Sales Manager Wayne Robinson at Farmworld to talk you through how the products perform and advise on set up and applicators. Morham Maine’s - Maine- Anjou Beef Stud

Morham Maine’s is a Maine Anjou Stud investing into the growth and future of the Main-Anjou breed in Australia. Brian Morham’s passion for Maine Anjou began when he was driving and saw a Maine Anjou Bull in a paddock, this led him to enquire about where he could purchase a Bull. This then led to the purchase of ‘Bully’ a beautiful, 16-month-old, purebred Maine Anjou. He looked magnifi-

cent. “Bully” as they affectionately called him became the Foundation Bull. Bully was used over the Baldy cows, producing impressive offspring. Their love for the bull: his temperament; his structure; his gentle nature; gave them the desire to buy some purebred cows to create their own Maine Anjou herd. In 2009 they registered the Stud Name “Morham Maine’s” and become a registered Maine Anjou Stud. Maine Anjou cattle are

“We Won’t Sell Anything We Wouldn’t Buy”

generally identified by their orange, red or burgundy colouring with white patterns uniquely covering their body. Further clues in identifying the Maine Anjou are their traditional characteristics like their white socks, underbelly, blaze, white tail ending and unique shaped ears. Maine’s can appear fully red without markings or even white with red markings.

Visit us on site for our catalogue of domestic and exportable semen.

Popularity of black cattle in Australia means that the Maine Anjou would not be complete without a black variety of the breed, which was introduced into Australia in the 1990’s. The black Maine Anjou has very little to no white markings on its body. The Maine Anjou breed can be Horned, Polled (no horns) or Scurred (small stubs). Maine’s have beautiful temperaments which

is an advantage in the stock yards. The cows are easy calving, with calves doing well because of the cow’s great milking capacity which is a contributing factor to the calves fast growth rate, making them ideal for the yearling and vealer markets. Maine Anjou are an adaptable breed coping well with a variety of environmental conditions, from the cold temperatures in the

The submissive red colour gene allows cattle with dominate black genes to produce black offspring. Additional benefits from the Maine Anjou are improved frame size, high meat yields and improved muscling. The Morham family are very much involved in building up the herd to their own brand. CLAAS announces 2023 upgrades for JAGUAR

GLOBAL forage harvesting leader, CLAAS, has announced a number of improvements for its JAGUAR 900/800 forage harvesters, including the introduction of a newly-developed GPS steering guidance and an automatic reel speed adjustment system for PICK UP fronts. All 2023 delivery models will be available with the CEMIS 1200 operating terminal, which incorporates the newly-developed GPS PILOT automated steering guidance and CEMOS AUTO PERFORMANCE machine optimisation systems. CLAAS Harvest Centre Product Manager – JAGUAR, Luke Wheeler, says the guidance and optimisation systems are activated via a simple, two-step process using the CMOTION control lever. “After turning and entering the next track, the operator activates the

steering guidance system and accelerates up to operating speed,” he says. “With a second push of the button, CEMOS AUTO PERFORMANCE then takes control of the ground speed and engine output according to crop flow. “In simple terms, ground speed is reduced when the volume harvested increases, while engine output is reduced if the volume harvested decreases.” CLAAS claims the system can improve throughput by up to 7% whilst reducing fuel consumption by 12%. CLAAS’ proven AUTO PILOT sensor-based and CAM PILOT camera-based guidance systems and the CRUISE PILOT automatic speed control system are also available. PICK UP fronts can now be specified with automatic reel speed adjustment and automatic lubrication systems.

“Introduced last year, the optional hydraulic drive enables the reel speed to be matched to ground speed independently of the speed of the intake auger,” Luke says. “This means the rotational speeds of the pick-up reel and intake auger can be matched exactly to the prevailing harvesting conditions for more consistent crop flow and higher throughput. “This is particularly important when harvesting high yielding crops at low speeds or vice versa.” U.S. studies have shown the new hydraulic drive can increase throughput by up to 13.7% compared with the existing mechanical constant drive in heavy harvesting conditions. From 2023 onwards, the drive system now automatically adjusts the reel speed to the ground speed at operating speeds above 5 km/h.

“If the ground speed or the set chop length is changed, the speeds of the pick-up reel and intake auger are automatically matched to the prevailing conditions,” Luke says. “This results in an even more consistent crop flow through the harvester, especially where there are frequent and significant changes in swath thickness. “If necessary, both speeds can also be adjusted manually from the cab by the operator.” PICK UP fronts can also be equipped with an optional automatic chain lubrication system on the left-side drive of the intake auger and reel. CLAAS has also announced the introduction of a new top-of-theline model for its JAGUAR 800 forage harvesters. Already established in the North American market, the JAGUAR 880

is powered by the highly efficient Mercedes-Benz OM 473 LA six-cylinder 15.6 litre engine that delivers a maximum output of 653 hp. It is equipped with Stage IIIa/Tier 3 emissions control technology and the DYNAMIC POWER engine management system that automatically adjusts the engine output to load. CLAAS claims the system achieves fuel savings of up to 10.6 percent. JAGUAR 880 can be equipped with the MCC roller corn cracker with a sawtooth profile, the MCC MAX with the durable BusaCLAD coating or the MCC SHREDLAGE cracker for efficient processing across a range of chop lengths. For further information contact CLAAS Harvest Centre Gippsland or South Gippsland or see the team at Farm World sites A25-29 and B1-5.

McIntosh silage and beater wagons have proven themselves to be built tough, durable and can handle a range of different tasks with ease. There are many farmers throughout Australia now enjoying the benefits of owning and operating a McIntosh wagon. One feature that McIntosh can offer is the ability to customise a machine to suit the customer’s unique requirements. One of the recent machines the team at TracMac Farm Equipment have been able to put together was a truck mounted unit for a cattle station in far north Queensland. Meadowbank Station at Mt Garnet purchased

an ex-army six-wheel drive truck and wanted a way of delivering silage to feed their Brahman cattle into troughs scattered around their 18,000-hectare property. This generally involves a 120-kilometre trip done three times a week on outback roads. Plenty of dust and rough conditions to deal with so they wanted a machine that could stand up to this tough environment. McIntosh was able to put together a machine that suited their needs and was able to bolt straight onto the customer’s truck. Considering the truck was over 3,500 kilometres away and a five-

hour drive to the nearest major town, it was important for the team to get everything right. They were able to fit the wagon body over a weekend and put it straight to work with great results. They are very happy with how the machine performs, the ease of use and the way it consistently feeds out the silage. The strength and durability built into the-all steel bin construction appeals to them as it help’s it handle their tough conditions. McIntosh Beater wagons have proven their ability to operate and integrate different products together to feeding herds across Australia. Continued on page 51.

KUHN Group’s win at the 2023 Farm Machine of the Year Awards with their VBP 7190 round baler wrapper combo has positioned them as leaders in the hay and forage industry. The recent awards saw VBP 7190 identified as being the most powerful and versatile machine in its category. It’s ability to produce large, dense, straw bales to perfectly shaped short crop silage bales with high moisture content, offers operators consistent high performance in all crop conditions. KUHN’s VBP 7100 series have been designed with: •nKUHN’s patented i-DENSE density regulation system for optimal baling pressure • An integral rotor intake system, offering a range of cutting lengths • The optimal KUHN TWIN-reel film binding system and • A range of bales sizes, from 80 to 160/185cm in diamater. The VBP 7100 series has been built for maximum durability and incorporates a heavy-duty bale chamber, rollers and drive components. It also has a reinforced frame and an extra-large tandem axle and tyres. In addition to the VBP 7100 series, KUHN’s FC 13460 RA mower conditioner has become available on Australian shores. Optimising output and quality with an integrated swath grouper,

the FC 13460 mowing unit is fitted with: • KUHN’s OPTIDISC ELITE cutter bar, recognised for its robustness and cutting quality • The ISOBUS control interface, connecting operators with the CCI 800 or CCI 1200 terminals •nLIFT-CONTROL suspension, that can adjust the ground pressure protecting the plant cover and ensuring a good ground following. The FC 13460 RA mower conditioner offers its operators a higher working output and has been designed with the goal of preserving the soil from compaction. McIntosh silage wagons Continued from page 40 So, when the team at TracMac Farm Equipment received a call from the Alterra Group from Manjimup in Western Australia asking how they felt they would go applying mulch and wood chips under avocado trees, they were confident that McIntosh beater wagons could handle the job. The customer was establishing a 300-hectare avocado plantation from scratch and is looking to apply thousands of cubic meters of mulch around their trees to help conserve moisture and reduce irrigation costs. Together with McIntosh in New Zealand, the TracMac team were able to put together a

unit that best suited their needs, and once built it was sent it over to Western Australia to be put to work. Three months on and now over 6,000 cubic meters of wood chips have been applied to their avocado trees. They are extremally happy with the machines performance and reliability and have commented that the McIntosh beater wagon has exceeded their expectations. With a smaller version of the McIntosh beater wagon, the team at TracMac has been able to create the McIntosh vineyard wagon for applying straw and compost directly onto grape vine rows. With some special fea-

tures, narrow wheelbase and steerable drawbar, these machines offer a high capacity, high speed and efficient way of applying straw and compost to the rows. In most cases they have been able to double the application rates of straw onto grape vine rows to most other machines that are available on the market. Check out the range of McIntosh silage wagons, bale feeders and other equipment on the TracMac Farm Equipment stand on Farm World sites A30-33 & B6-8 and see why McIntosh is considered to be the leader in silage feed out equipment.

How would you go backing a trailer - under pressure, mistake free and in a time trial? Well farmers, contractors and agricultural dealers have the opportunity at Farm World’s Tractor Skills Competition. The course has been set out by Lardner Park Committee member Allan Slater, with the help of fellow committee member Duncan McNeil who has perfected the course. The competition will be split into three categories for farmers, contractors and ag dealers.

Allan said the operator is required to connect the tractor to a trailer and then tow it around a tight 50 metre course. “It will test the skills of the operator in operating the equipment and driving the course. “It’s all about managing a tractor and trailer through the course. “They have to avoid obstacles and back the trailer into position. Allan said participants are timed and penalised for hitting obstacles. “I think it is a bit of fun and creates a bit of

friendly rivalry. It also provides a bit of action at Farm World instead of just static displays,” he said. The competition will be held between ticket box C and the dam. The Tractor Skills Competition will be held on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Farm World. For more information or details about entering the competition contact: Allan Slater (0418 515 510) or Duncan McNeil (0418 515 512).
