The purpose of the Warren Wilson College Alumni Association is to foster among Alumni a spirit of fellowship and service; to interpret Warren Wilson College to the community in which they live; to promote a continuous active interest and support of their Alma Mater; and to provide an organization through which Warren Wilson College can continue to offer educational and cultural advantages to its Alumni and the community at large. The Alumni Board represents all alumni who are automatically members of the Warren Wilson Alumni Association. The Alumni Board works with all alumni to nurture the Warren Wilson College mission, strategic plan and college spirit. The Warren Wilson Alumni Board partners with the Advancement Office, donating their talent, time, and ideas to Warren Wilson College.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Tucker Branham'02 graduated from WWC with a BA in English and then attended the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, GA, where she concentrated in Advertising, Art Direction. Upon graduation in 2004, Tucker went to work for Emory University as a part of the development team. In 2006, Tucker decided to move into consulting and began consulting with NPOs and NGOs on strategic planning and fund development, both nationally and internationally. In 2012, Tucker graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota with a master’s degree in Philanthropy and Development. Later that year, she accepted her current position as the Executive Director for the Porter-Gaud Foundation. Tucker lives in Charleston, SC with her family; two lab pups, and the world’s best cat.

Rob Danzman '99 is one of the leading experts in family-based behavior modification. He is founder and clinical director of Fonthill Counseling, which serves families across the country. He earned his graduate degree in Counseling from Western Carolina University and his undergraduate degree in Outdoor Leadership from WWC. Rob has worked for over a decade in the corporate, mental, and behavioral health industries. He lives with his family in Chapel Hill, NC.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Mark ˈ99 graduated with a degree in Human Studies (Anthropology) which, along with being a boss for the computing services crew, prepared him for a career in the Tech Industry. Since then, he's been working diligently keeping the internet working out in San Francisco as the Technical Operations Manager for Gracenote, managing a team of Systems Administrators in California and Munich. The organization touches hundreds of millions of people through the world’s hottest entertainment products and brands. Mark also leads a Theme Camp of 50 people into the desert for Burning Man every year where they serve thousands of snow cones to festival participants.

Mimi Herman '91 is the director of the United Arts Council Arts Integration Institute, an associate editor for Teaching Artist Journal, a teaching artist and a consultant. She holds a BA, cum laude, from UNC-Chapel Hill and an MFA in Creative Writing from WWC MFA Program for Writers. She has worked as an arts and education consultant since 1990, engaging over 25,000 students and teachers with writing residencies, as well as providing extensive professional development for teachers and teaching artists. The author of Logophilia (Main Street Rag, 2012) and The Art of Learning (North Carolina Arts Council, 1998), she has published poetry, stories and articles in national and local magazines and newspapers. Mimi does her own carpentry and plumbing, and can milk a cow and a goat, though not at the same time. Find her at www.mimiherman.com.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board James Calvin Mathew Grier '14 left Warren Wilson in May 2014 after receiving his BA for psychology with a focus on animal behavior. Mathew spent three years on the Advancement crew and a summer in Computing Services. These crews helped him develop skills in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer programs which he loves to use to create flyers, pamphlets, rosters, and more for events. Mathew is currently working with The Dog Door in downtown Asheville on getting his certification in canine behavioral training (CPDT) and hopes to work with The Dog Door as a canine behaviorist in the upcoming years. Mathew also enjoys long hikes on the Blue Ridge Parkway with his dog, spending time with his friends and family, and working on small writing projects. Khaetlyn Grindell '16 is a Political Science major with a minor in Sociology & Anthropology. Currently she is the Resident Director of Sunderland, though her work on Student Activities and Orientation crew also satisfied her commitment to engaging students with the campus community to ensure their preparedness for college. In addition to being both a mentor and a mentee in the Engage program for students of color on campus, Khaetlyn mentors Latino youth in Asheville every week through the MANOS service trip, embodying her passion for justice particularly as it relates to race and class. She aims to go to graduate school after departing from Wilson, but for right now is just exploring her interests surrounding law, mass communications, and policy.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Ona Sunshine Hogarty '13 called Warren Wilson home from 2009 until May 2013, achieving a BA in Global Studies. She spent the entirety of her college career as a student crew member in the Office of Advancement, cultivating a passion for grant writing, event planning, and donor relations. At present, she is working part time as a consultant to enhance charitable activities at Sunshine Daydream Music Park in Terra Alta, WV; however, she eagerly seeks meaningful full-time work in addition to this project. She adores making comics, rescue cats, and making comics about rescue cats.

Hannah Jacobs '11 graduated from Warren Wilson with a BA in English/Theatre. Upon graduation, Hannah was honored to receive both the Theatre and English Department awards and the Alton F. Pfaff award. This past year, she completed a MA in Digital Humanities at King's College London. She is now the Multimedia Analyst with the Wired! Lab in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke University where she provides teaching and research support for art history mapping and modeling classes and projects. On the weekends, she works on her family's farm, BeeWild Farm, near Hillsborough, NC.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Rev. Scott Jenkins '85 a lifelong resident of North Carolina, graduated from WWC with a BA in History and Political Science. Rev. Jenkins is entering his 28th year as an educator in the Mitchell County School System in WNC. He has, during his tenure, taught Language Arts, Social Studies and Computer Skills at grades 48, served as both an assistant principal and principal and for the past decade worked as a central office administrator. Rev. Jenkins currently serves as the Principal of Bowman Middle School in Mitchell County Rev. Jenkins has been an ordained minister since 1997 and has served as pastor of three churches and has evangelized in well over 100 churches in the past 18 years.

Melanie Kemp, '12, graduated from WWC with a double major in Biology & Environmental Studies. She was on the Garden Crew for 3 years and continues to play in the dirt in her spare time. Although she is originally from Huntsville, Alabama, she now calls Asheville home. Melanie is a full time employee in the Work Program Office on campus and enjoys mountain biking, cooking, and going on adventures.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Donna Kilpatrick '88 graduated from WWC with a degree in English and began working at Hickory Nut Gap Farm, where she managed a small family owned dairy and planted and harvested forage crops. Donna continued her work in agriculture as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador. After returning to the states, she was hired as an admission counselor at WWC, where she spent five years recruiting students and volunteering on the college farm. Next, Donna moved to New York and joined the admission office at Eugene Lange College of the New School. While there, she obtained her master’s degree in non-profit management. Donna currently serves as the Livestock Manager for Heifer International Learning Center at Overlook Farm in Rutland, where she teaches others about sustainable agriculture and issues of hunger and poverty. Elizabeth Koenig '08 graduated with a BA in Cultural Anthropology and a minor in Outdoor Leadership. Since graduation she has worked in local government to increase commercial recycling rates in Arlington County, VA, served as an Americorps Volunteer for the Western North Carolina Green Building Council, and now is a web content moderator for an online moderation firm in London. Elizabeth continues her education through traveling at every opportunity, making linoleum prints, and running a small vintage clothing store online. She and her beloved rescue dog, Pippa, can often be found on hiking trails around Western North Carolina.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Sherry Lee '78 graduated from WWC with a BA in English and a minor in Theatre and held a variety of positions using the skills learned on her work crews. After her son Micah was born, she went to Nebraska and then back to North Carolina, working at a ranch and children’s home, respectively. Sherry eventually moved to Florida and graduated from Daytona Beach Community College as an RN. She started a Diabetes Education Program at the Bert Fish Medical Center and obtained her certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator. In 2000 she and her daughter moved to Valdosta, GA where she worked at an outpatient Diabetes Center. Eleven years later she was happy to move back to the mountains and is currently an inpatient Wound Care nurse in Clyde, NC.

Mica Mead '07 left the Charleston low country to attend WWC. She graduated in 2007 with a degree in Art and a minor in Education. Since graduating from Warren Wilson she has worked as Outreach Program Coordinator for Lake Eden Arts Festival LEAF in Schools and Streets Program, as well as teaching at public and private schools. Mica currently serves as Operations Manager for the Asheville Area Arts Council, where she promotes and advocates for Buncombe County's creative sector.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Mike Nix '70 graduated from WWC with a BA in education and attended graduate school at Western Carolina University. He taught middle school for sixteen years and started the first soccer team in the Buncombe County school system. In 1980 he opened Liberty Bicycles with his wife, Claudia '70. In the mid-1980’s he coached junior cyclists at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for three years and eventually retired from the teaching profession to work at Liberty Bicycles full time. The business has won numerous awards and accolades over the year including being the Top 100 Bicycle store nationally each year since 1994. Mike stays engaged with the community and bicycle profession by serving on numerous boards and organizations.

Jeannie Pfautz, '04, graduated from WWC with a double major in English and Education. After a brief stint in the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan, she moved back to Virginia, taught high school English, and married Bart Pfautz '05. While teaching, she received her master’s degree in Literacy and Culture from Longwood University in 2009. She and her husband served in the Peace Corps again from 2009 to 2011 on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. Jeannie taught ESL at a high school and helped the school build a reading center to work with struggling readers. After returning to the states, Jeannie began working as a reading specialist. She now teaches reading at Charlottesville High School and is starting her Ed. D. part-time at UVA in the fall of 2014.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Juliana Ratner '08 holds a BA from WWC in Cultural Anthropology and a minor in Spanish. After graduation she returned home to the Washington, DC area where she worked for several years with a non-profit serving youth charged and incarcerated as adults. Juliana is currently an investigator fellow at the Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia, investigating felony criminal cases, and will attend law school in the fall of 2014. When not at the jail, Juliana weaves rugs on an enormous loom and is a dedicated student of Argentine tango.

Juliana Ratner '08 Term ends 2015 Erica Rawls '03 received her bachelors of arts in Social Work from WWC and her MSW with a School Social Work Specialization from the University of Louisville. Erica also earned a master’s degree in special education with an Autism Concentration from the University of Louisville. She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and currently is the Day Program Director at Hinds’ Feet Farm, a day program for adult survivors of brain injury. Erica has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Education and Social Work Departments at WWC and has worked for the past 10 years in some capacity at the Autism Society of North Carolina as a Residential Coordinator, Community Skills Instructor and in a variety of positions in their summer camp program.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Adam "Pinky" Stegall '07 graduated from WWC in with a degree in Business/Economics. He was involved in automotive industry public relations and journalism while at WWC, and went on to work in Washington, D.C. as a liaison between automotive manufacturers and the automotive press. He moved back to Charlotte, NC to help with the family business, and is the fourth generation at Stegall & Co., Inc., which supplies fuel to local farmers and businesses, runs a chain of convenience stores, and manages local commercial real estate holdings. He and his partner are active in the International Gay Rugby Association, and played in the 2012 Gay Rugby World Cup in Manchester, England. He is absolutely bonkers for WWC, and enjoys invigorating that passion in others.

After volunteering at Mission Hospital his senior year, Jimmy Stultz ˈ05 was drawn to a career in medicine and helping others. Following graduation from WWC with a degree in Biology, he moved to Charleston, SC for a job in clinical research at the Medical University of South Carolina. Since 2007, he has worked as an orthopaedic consultant for Depuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction where he works with orthopaedic surgeons in the operating room in all aspects of adult total joint reconstruction and orthopaedic trauma. When not in the operating room, he enjoys fishing and playing golf on the beautiful South Carolina coast. He currently lives with his wife in the small fishing village of Murrells Inlet SC.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board Dennis Thompson '77 graduated with a BA in English with a concentration in Theatre and received an MA in Theatre and an MA in Journalism from the Ohio State University. Dennis worked for 30 years at The Ohio State University as an academic advisor to undergraduate students in the arts and liberal arts. He also has 22 years experience as a theatre critic for Columbus Suburban News Publications, 19 years as an audio describer of arts events for Accessible Arts, Inc, a sight impaired accessiblility group, and 23 years as a volunteer for the Ohio Historical Society where he plays 1860s Vintage Base Ball for the Ohio Village Muffins. He now lives with his wife, Barb, in his hometown of East Liverpool, Ohio, where he is an Adjunct Professor of Theatre at the East Liverpool Campus of Kent State University. Keri Willever ˈ95, a native of Kohler, Wisconsin, graduated in 1995 with Warren Wilson’s first degree in outdoor leadership. After graduation she served in the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa in the forestry sector and then lived and worked at a private zoo in Santa Rosa, CA. Keri then had a brief stint as a movie extra in 28 Days, was a Logistician for NGO Action Against Hunger at a refugee camp in Albania, provided logistics for WNC Outward Bound at the Green Cove base camp and then helped run the Engineering Department at the Inn on Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Most recently Keri spent the last 10 years of her life happily working as Associate Director of Admission back at WWC. In August of 2014 Keri moved to the New Orleans area to start the next chapter of her life.

Warren Wilson College Alumni Board John Wykle '61 graduated from Warren Wilson Junior College with an AA degree, Berea College in 1963 with a BA degree and Tulane University in 1966 with a MSW degree. He received his Clinical Social Work license in 1983. John worked in the community mental health and psychiatry department for Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in California, was Director of Social Work at Highland Hospital, and worked in community mental health in North Carolina. He served as an investigator for the NC Social Work Licensing Board and has served on several community agency boards in the state. John has had a private practice in Asheville since 1993 and is currently semiretired as a psychotherapist with a limited practice.
