The Farm Crew will lead a tour of our mixed -crop and livestock operation which continues an agriculture tradition dating to 1894. Pigs, piglets, chickens, sheep, cows are attractions as well as ride in an Amish Wagon provided by John Showalter.
JOURNAL-MAKING Embellish a composition book using a variety of materials such as scrap paper, cards, fabrics, and notions. Each journal will be unique through artistic choices in materials. Farm fresh eggs from your own backyard? If you are a new poultry owner or just thinking about raising poultry, this workshop is for you. The class will include an overview on how to properly care for chickens, how to provide appropriate food and shelter, specifics of raising poultry for production of eggs or meat, and the benefits of specific breeds. Live chickens will be on hand to demonstrate proper handling techniques. Chickens are great additions to a backyard. They are entertaining to watch, provide nutrient dense eggs, create wonderful fertilizer and are an excellent way to reduce the population of pesky insects and ticks in your yard.

Explore the herb cabin and herb garden, blueberry and raspberry patches, veggie productions and hoop houses, chicken coop and the garden cabin. Discuss the process of growing fruits, herbs and vegetables and sample certain edible things. Star Gazing
Dr. Warren J Gaughan teaches courses in classical and jazz music. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville College, a Masters of Music degree from UNC-Greensboro, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University as a classical musician he has performed as a member of the Asheville Symphony, played live on WCQS (the local public radio station), and given solo recitals at Warren Wilson and other local colleges. His jazz performances are as a member of the "The Asheville Gentleman" and "Picante." Both groups perform locally and in public schools throughout North Carolina, teaching the history and styles of jazz and Latin Jazz. Currently in his 33rd year of teaching at Warren Wilson, Dr. Gaughan enjoys the challenge of teaching and performing in two different genres.

Join us in Canon for a once in a lifetime experience as Lloyd Arneach, renowned Storyteller, weaves an evening of magic for all ages.
Weekend@Wilson Lloyd Arneach An enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Lloyd Arneach was born, reared and currently lives on the Cherokee Reservation in Cherokee, North Carolina. He learned his first legends from two storytelling Uncles on the reservation. He has told stories at the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), National Folklife Festival (Washington, D.C.), the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian (Washington, D.C.), the Winnepeg International Storytelling Festival (Canada), the Discovery Channel, festivals, schools, universities, Pow-Wows, theaters, and other venues throughout the United States. His CD Can You Hear the Smoke? features stories and legends adapted by Lloyd. In 1992, Children's Press published his book, The Animal's Ballgame, based on one of Lloyd's favorite Cherokee animal stories. Lloyd wrote a book of Cherokee stories, Long-Ago Stories of the Eastern Cherokee, that was released in early 2008 and is now in its fifth printing (2014). He was included in an article on storytellers in the 2010 Winter issue of the American Indian Magazine produced by the National Museum of the American Indian. He received the Mountain Heritage Award from Western Carolina University in 2011 and he was included in a Cherokee Edition of The Foxfire Magazine, 2012.
